| | | Conor Deighan Skelding, 31, died April 21, 2023, of a rare and aggressive form of pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife, Lizzy Cady Skelding (nee Trelstad), his parents, Karen Deighan and David Skelding, his brothers Cameron Skelding (Joanna Keen Skelding), Owen Skelding, Aidan Skelding (fiancee Caroline Hurley) and his beloved niece and Goddaughter, Luciana Skelding. Also surviving are his maternal grandmother, June Deighan, aunts and uncles, Marti Roth Deighan, Kathleen Deighan (Michael Blankshain), Chris Deighan (Nancy Jones Deighan) and Jennifer Deighan (Don Knapp Jr. ), as well as 12 cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Thomas E. Deighan, his paternal grandparents, Lorraine (Luongo) and Laurence S. Skelding, and a maternal uncle, Thomas M. Deighan. Conor was a 2010 graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep where he launched the family's interest in the sport of rowing. He graduated from Columbia University in the City of New York with majors in English and American Studies. While at Columbia, he served as editor-in-chief of The Blue and White and was a COOP leader. Conor began his career in journalism at Politico New York. He then joined Reorg where he covered distressed debt. Most recently, he was a Sunday News Reporter for the New York Post. He was well-liked by fellow members of The Inner Circle. Conor made and maintained deep friendships with many from all walks of life and across the country. Unlike most his age, he preferred a phone call to a text, and was apt to send handwritten notes and letters. Conor relished a vigorous intellectual debate on just about any topic. He was a voracious and eclectic reader, as well as an experienced cyclist. Most of all, Conor loved God, Lizzy, and his family. He held a special affection for Luciana, whom he had begun to form in the permanent things. His faith and his strength, in the face of serious illness, were an inspiration to many. Visitation will be held at St. John Cantius Church, 825 North Carpenter Street, Chicago, Illinois 60642 from 5:30 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023. Funeral Mass on Friday, April 28, 2023 at St. John Cantius Church at 10:30 a. m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius, 1025 W.
