Memorial services for Connie Karen Poage, 83, of Perry, will be at 3:00 PM Saturday September 9, 2023 at Olivet Christian Church in Center with pastor Steve Goughnour officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service at the church. Mrs. Poage passed away at 1:32 PM September 5, 2023 at University Hospital in Columbia. Connie was born December 24, 1939 in Beloit, Kansas the daughter of Hobart and Helen Ruth Wirth Leach. She married Jesse Eugene Poage on December 5, 1957 in Salina, KS and he preceded her in death on December 18, 2015. Survivors include two sons; Mark (Wendy Hamman) Poage of Clovis, CA and Dale (Nancy Knotts) Poage of Perry, two daughters; Cathy (Paul) Beamer of Columbia and Lori Kelsay of Mexico. eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jesse, one brother Terry Leach and one sister Sandra Leach. Connie worked at the Perry Medical Clinic for over twenty years and was a member of Olivet Christian Church in Center. She enjoyed reading and shopping but most of all she enjoyed her time with friends and family. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Joshua and Jonathan Calhoun, Michael and Austin Poage, Braden Beamer, Michael Hamman, Connor Kelsay, Tonya Hawkins, Taylour Ward, Ashlee Hitt, and JoAnn Holem. Betty Jean Bozarth McGee, 85, of New Franklin, passed, Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at the University of Missouri Columbia Hospital after a short stay with her children by her side She was born September 18, 1938, to Clifford and Berniece (Holt) Bozarth in Grandview, Iowa She was the oldest of three girls She moved east of New Franklin when she was 2 years old and attended Farmer's High for most of her schooling She attended New Franklin high school and graduated from there in 1956 She started working as a nurse's aide for St Joseph Hospital in 1956 She attended the Columbia Public School of Nursing from August 1958-August 1959 She was a member of the first class to attend this school She received her LPN degree from there in 1959 Betty worked at Ellis Fischel in Columbia during school She worked as an LPN for St Joseph's Hospital in Boonville from 1956-1972 She continued working there when it switched to Cooper County Memorial Hospital She continued her nursing career there and retired in November 2003 She returned to work in January of 2004 and retired for the last time in 2012 Betty was a caregiver from the time she was little, she helped care for her younger sisters and then became a nurse after high school She thrived on nursing, often working 16-hour shifts After she had children, she was present for all their activities She spent many hours caring for her grandkids and attending their activities as well She also attended the great-grandchildren's activities until it became difficult for her to After she moved to the senior housing in New Franklin, she checked on neighbors, collected their mail, and took their trash out Caring for others was in her nature She loved her family and God She was proud of the fact that she was the oldest living member of her church that was still attending She married Wallace Wayne McGee on May 7, 1960 They made their home in Columbia and later moved several times before settling on a farm outside New Franklin They moved from the farm to New Franklin in the spring of 1970 after Wayne started working for the MKT railroad He preceded her in death on March 22, 2002 She was also preceded in death by her parents, and a special grandson-in-law, George Thurman She is survived by two children, Clifford (Jacqueline) McGee of New Franklin and Bonnie (Harold) Wilson of Laddonia; two sisters, Shirley (Bill) Evans and Twila Robinett (Bill Young); nine grandchildren, Michael (Jessica) Mason, Courtney Hughes, Mark (Ashley) McGee, Jessica Thurman (Trent Ginter), Josh Wilson, David (Jamie) Parrish, Racheal Parrish (D J Rhorer), Sean (Erin) Wilson and Zachary McGee; twenty-one great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews She was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Franklin where she had been baptized as a child and still attended faithfully Funeral services honoring Betty's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in New Franklin Visitation will be the hour prior to the service at the church Burial will be at Roanoke Cemetery in Roanoke Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in New Franklin Condolences may be shared at www marklandyager com Markland-Yager Funeral Home of New Franklin is honored to serve Betty's familyShow more

Services for Edward Alva Parks, 94, of Mexico, formerly of Perry and Vandalia will be at 12:00 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Perry with Pastor Brian Meranda officiating. Burial will follow in the Lick Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Mr. Parks passed away at 1:00 PM on July 1, 2023 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico. He was born on November 15, 1928 in Perry the son of Ed and Ina Agnes Simpson Parks. He married Norma Jean Brown on April 3, 1953 in Perry and she preceded him in death on May 1, 2013. Survivors include two sons; Lynn Parks of Hannibal and Larry Parks of Laddonia, one daughter; Lana (Dale) Walkley of Vandalia, fourteen grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons; Lowell and Lyndell Parks, one Brother; Leslie Parks and one sister Nellie Ruth Robinson. Edward served his country honorably in the U. S. Army during the Korean war. His group was responsible for the first runway in Korea. He worked as a farmer while also being full time at Harbison - Walker Refractories in Vandalia for thirty four and a half years. Edward grew up in the Perry Baptist Church but would be a member of the First Baptist Church of Vandalia. Edward was a strong Christian and was happy to share the gospel of Jesus Christ everywhere he could. He enjoyed traveling. Especially trips with Norma Jean working on and building Churches for Campers on Mission. he enjoyed listing to country music and volunteering where he could in his community. Edward enjoyed visiting with friends at the nursing home but most of all he enjoyed the time spent with his family. Pallbearers will be Matthew Parks, Kenny Parks, Aaron Walkley, Roger Walkley, Eric Parks, Austin Parks, Ryan Parks, and Josh Parks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronnie Kelly, Eugene Kirtlink, Bruce Coleman, Ronnie Rouse, Leslie Ray Parks, and Marvin Parks. Bienhoff Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Brown passed away at 3:23 PM Monday February 20, 2023 at Luther Manor Nursing Home in Hannibal surrounded by his family. He was born July 25, 1929 in Madisonville the son of Wilburt Russell and Gladys Amelia Mahood Brown. Rex Married Elizabeth Nadine Robinson on July 28, 1951 in Hannibal and she survives. Other survivors include his nine children; Calvin (Gina) Brown of Perry, Richard (Tina) Brown of Monroe City, Lance (Sherrie) Brown of Monroe City, Bruce (Cindy) Brown of Perry, Marilyn (Rick) Frey of Perry, Rita (John) Gottschalk of Wright City, Vickey (Bill) Nutt of Vandalia, Helen (Randy) Watson of Lee's Summit, and Karen (Jake) Mast of Moberly, one brother Ivan Dale (Cheryle) Brown of Perry. Rex left a large legacy with 90 grandchildren, great, and great great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Norma Jean Parks, and one granddaughter Elizabeth "Beth" Spradley. Mr. Brown was a lifetime area resident and anchor of the Perry community. He worked for over 40 years as a truck driver for MFA where he delivered in the Perry, Laddonia, and Vandalia communities. He enjoyed his Chrysler vehicles, watching Cardinals baseball and most of all spending time with children and grandchildren. Joy Brummitt danced into the arms of Jesus on November 25, 2022 at the age of 68 years. Though she will be sorely missed, we know she is celebrating with her mom, dad, sister Gay Lee, and niece Abigail JoAnne among others. Joy was born in Lexington, Mo. , on June 19, 1954 to James Thomas (J. T. ) Brummitt and JoAnne (Street) Brummitt. The Santa Fe railroad family ended up in LaPlata, Mo. where Joy lived as "one of those little Brummitt girls. " It was LaPlata where she grew up, graduated high school and formed many life-long friends. Joy loved children and spent most her working years in daycares and church nurseries. Because Joy was so petite and because she would always listen, children were drawn to "Joy-Joy" or "Miss Joy. " Even when she retired, she was a "volunteer grandmother" at the Williams Family Center, Mexico, Mo. Joy's pride and joy were her 42 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Joy was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she especially enjoyed the annual Cameo Tea Party so she could dress up and wear a fancy hat. Joy is survived by two sisters, Merrilee Wells, of Parsons, Kansas and Glee Hanson, of Laddonia; brother-in-law Monte Hanson who cared for Joy like one of his own, and all those nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Joy's Celebration of Life will be held at Thursday, Dec. 1 at 11 a. m. and will be held at the Mexico Church of the Nazarene where she had been an active member also since moving to Farber in 2011.Show more

Martin Edward (Marty) Fennewald, 72, of Laddonia, passed away at 10:41 P. M. , Sunday, April 24, 2022 at his home. A visitation celebrating Marty will be held from 5:00 P. M. to 7:00 P. M. , Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Bienhoff Funeral Home in Laddonia. He was born May 4, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Martin and Georgia Fegan Fennewald. Marty married Virginia M. Hake on August 16, 1984 in Laddonia, and she survives. Other survivors include three sons; James Edward (Shanna) Fennewald of Auxvasse, John Thomas Fennewald of Mexico, Kevin Dean (Kaleena) Patrick of Mexico, one daughter; Amy Jo (Rick) Anderson of Mexico, one brother; Perry (Debbie) Fennewald of Indiana, one sister; Marion (John) Michalak of Marion, Illinois, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Martin and Georgia, two brothers; Tom and Jimmy Fennewald, and one sister; Dorothy Anderotta. Mr. Fennewald was a long time Laddonia resident and a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Laddonia. Marty enjoyed collecting coins, working on small engines, volunteering at the St. John's Catholic Church Food Pantry, and being a volunteer firefighter for the Laddonia Volunteer Fire Department. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially teaching his grandchildren how to swim.
