"Cindy VerSchuure Oskaloosa. Cindy Ver Schuure, 65, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, died peacefully surrounded by her beloved kids, grandkids, sisters, and her husband, Fred, of 40 years. Cindy's family was her most prized treasure. She enjoyed listening and watching as her 4 kids all gathered together and loved the laughter brought in by her 10 grandkids and 4 great-grandkids. Cynthia "Cindy" Jo Ver Schuure was born in Oskaloosa on August 21,1958, to Leonard and Betty Koch. She grew up in Gibson, Iowa, and graduated from Tri-County High School in 1976. After graduation, she worked at Rolscreen for 13 years. She then worked alongside her husband, Fred, to manage the Knoxville Municipal Airport and Oskaloosa Airport and helped paint aircraft at both places. She also helped him in the various businesses they ran, where they flipped houses and ran a vineyard at their home. From 2013-2022 she worked at Vermeer and became a safety lead; she was endearingly referred to as "Safety Cindy" by her coworkers. During this time, she also took college courses at Columbia Southern University and was very proud of this. Cindy met Fred in 1981 and fell head over heels for him. They married on June 11, 1983. They had two kids, Nick and Kasie, and she inherited two bonus kids, Trish and Bill. She loved gardening, spending time with her family, immersing herself in various crafts and woodworking projects, and her pets over the years, including her wiener dogs, Jake and Buddy, and her cat, Tater Tot. Her faith in her Father God was very important to her, and she shared that with her family and strangers alike. Prior to her illness, she loved camping, going on trips with her husband in the semi, going to NHRA drag races, and having her grandkids over for play dates and overnights. She was a hands-on grandma who got down on the ground to join in for play and laughter with her grandkids. We were all so lucky to have a wife, sister, friend, mom, and grandma like her. She loved deeply and selflessly and was very considerate of others. She was the glue that held her family together, and because of her example and the abundant love that she showed, her family will now get to carry on her legacy. Cindy's family especially loved how special she made the holidays; her signature dishes of taco salad, eggnog, and hot apple cider; and her homemade gifts of arts and crafts made with so much love. She always made sure to give one of Dad's rice crispy bars to the grandkids when they'd visit. She had the superpower of holding her kids' and grandkids' hearts to be there for them in a supportive way while also offering hope and prayer on their behalf. She will be cherished forever. Cindy is survived by her husband, Fred Ver Schuure, who was her rock and provided the most support over her 5-year battle with cervical cancer; her four kids, Trisha (Rob) Brewer, Bill (Holly) Ver Schuure, Nick (Nancy) Ver Schuure, and Kasie (Adam) Kolosik; her grandkids: Andria (Michael Shinn), Bo, and Billy Ver Schuure, Grace, Emma (Nathan Ramirez), and Jack Brewer, Harper and Silas Ver Schuure, and Zion and Jude Kolosik; and her great-grandchildren: Faron Ver Schuure, Lennon Kesling, Edith Shinn, and Colter Ramirez; two sisters Susie (Bill) Steffey and Pamela "Christy" (Larry) Flander; her sisters-in-law Dena (Arvin) Van Engelenhoven , Bea Moore, Edith (Dean) Bullock Rothermund and Mary (Charlie) Lynch, and brother-in-law David Ver Schuure; plus many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Andrew Ver Schuure and Dena Ver Schuure Van Mersbergen; mother-in-law, Iva Cummings; niece, Shari Van Engelenhoven; nephew, Drew Van Engelenhoven; and great-nephew, Carter Van Engelenhoven. She made a big impact on those she met through her treatment and on her treatment team. She shared a special bond with many healthcare providers she met over the years at the Mahaska Health Partnership Infusion Center and UIHC Cancer Center-Gynecology/Oncology team. Cindy's family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to her care providers, including Dr. Megan McDonald and her team, Dr. Hiatt and his team, Dr. Z and the staff at the MHP Infusion Center, and all the staff at UIHC 3JP who took amazing care of her during her admissions and in the final hours of her life. Her family is forever grateful for all you did. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 3, 2023, at 10:30 a. m. in the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Molly Goodrich officiating. Burial will be in the Beacon Cemetery west of Beacon. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday after 1 p. m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Mahaska Health Partnership Infusion Center. "Show more
