Joseph Bontempo

Age - 69

December 8, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our kind, loving, and unimaginably caring husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend to all, Joseph Edward Bontempo, age 69. Born into life on July 2, 1954, and born into eternal life on December 6, 2023. Joe was born to Jasper and Lottie (nee Mierczak). He and his two siblings were born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Family was at the center of everything for Joe. Upon graduating from Taft High School, Joe wanted and had an opportunity to become a police officer but passed to please his mother who said the job was too dangerous. Joe ended up taking a safer position with WW Grainger where he worked tirelessly for 36 years and met some of his dearest friends who remained so up until his passing. Through an introduction by his brother and now wife, Joe was introduced to LaVerne Sutherland at Classic Bowl in Morton Grove in 1976. Married in 1978, they spent 45 wonderful years together. Together, Joe and LaVerne lovingly raised their son, Anthony. The family bond was incredibly strong, and nothing made Joe happier than watching Tony grow up and coaching his many sports. Joe was honored to share his birthday with his son and daughter-in-law, Kelly, when the two married on his birthday in 2011. But nothing made Joe prouder than his three grandchildren, Francesca, Giorgia, and Guy. Whether it was a school function, a game, or party, there was not an event of theirs he missed. They were the light of his life. Joe lived a life filled with love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family and friends, of which he had many. Joe is survived by his beloved wife, LaVerne Bontempo, his son, Anthony Bontempo, his daughter-in-law, Kelly Bontempo, his grandchildren Francesca, Giorgia, and Guy Bontempo, his brother Jay (Carrie) Bontempo, his sister Donna (Larry) Roth, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Jasper Bontempo, mother, Lottie Bontempo, and aunts Clara and Josephine Mierczak. Visitation Monday December 11TH from 3:00 to 9:00 P. M. at Cumberland Chapels (FRIEL FUNERAL DIRECTORS) 8300 W. Lawrence Ave. , Norridge. Funeral Services Begin Tuesday 11:15 A. M. at the Funeral Home and will proceed to St. Paul of the Cross Church, Park Ridge. Funeral Mass 12:30 P. M. , the burial will take place at the St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles.Show more
