John Colvin

Apr 10, 1940 - Jan 01, 2024

location-icon

Snohomish, WA

John Colvin passed away on January 1, 2024 after a long battle with cancer-related illnesses. John was born on April 10, 1940 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Not long after immigrating to the Seattle area in 1956, he met his beloved wife, Marion, at a church event. John and Marion were married in 1960, and enjoyed 63 happy years together. John’s early career included jobs with J.C. Penney and United Parcel Service. Later on, he began working in Marion’s family business, Drake & McDonald Company. He eventually bought into the business, and was an owner for over 20 years, until his retirement in 2001. John and Marion purchased a Snohomish home on 5 acres in 1999, and he and Marion spent countless hours outside working together on gardening projects. The 2,400 square feet of garage space that came with the home was a nice bonus, as it provided ample storage for John’s collection of cars. John’s love of cars, which was known to all his friends, began as a child in Northern Ireland. Some of John’s best days were spent with Marion, driving his 1954 MG to car events, and to the local Burgermaster. John spent years involved with the MG Club and Studebaker Driver’s Club. John was also extensively involved with soccer, as a youth player in Northern Ireland, as an adult player in Seattle, and later as a Snohomish County youth coach and referee. John was a member of Snohomish First Assembly Church, and his Christian friends and faith in God were strong sustaining forces throughout his life. John is survived by his wife, Marion Colvin; sons Steven and Timothy; daughters-in-law Lisa and Jenny; and grandchildren Sofia, Benjamin and Henry. A Memorial service for John is planned for Saturday, January 13 at 1:00 pm. The service will be at Snohomish Faith Church, 1220 - 22 Street, Snohomish, WA 98290. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Snohomish Food Bank in John’s name.

God saw you getting tired when a cure was not to be, so He closed his arms around you and whispered, "Come with Me. " You didn't deserve what you went through and so He gave you rest. God's garden must be beautiful; He only takes the best. And when I saw you sleeping so peaceful and free from pain, I could not wish you back to suffer that again.
