Carolyn, Mimi, or Mom – that’s how she was known to her family and friends, enjoyed her time in high school as an active ROTC sponsor and the excitement of meeting her future husband, Guerdon Flanagan. After graduating from Fair Park High School in 1951, Carolyn began training as an X-ray tech at Confederate Memorial Hospital, now Ochsner LSU. She and Guerdon married on June 13, 1953. Soon after, they traveled to Sumter, South Carolina, for Guerdon to continue his military service. To stay busy, Carolyn worked part-time jobs at J. C. Penney and a photography studio. Upon returning to Shreveport, Carolyn was employed at Interstate Oil Company as a keypunch operator. She continued working until the birth of her children Brenda and Jeff. She took on a new role as a stay-at-home mom until they began school. Her next career was working at the Caddo Parish Courthouse in the Tax Assessor’s Office/homestead exemptions. Many years later they built a home in the Benton community, and they joined Cypress Baptist Church where Carolyn enjoyed helping with luncheons and decorating. Their last residence was built in Bossier "to be closer to the hospital. " Carolyn lived there until her final move, five years ago, to The Blake Assisted Living facility. Carolyn loved shopping, always wanting day-trip adventures with her friends to the surrounding areas of Dallas, Longview, and Tyler. She was an excellent cook who loved decorating and entertaining during the holidays. She also loved playing scrabble. When Tomorrow Starts Without Me When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, that an angel came and called my name, and took me by the hand; the angel said my place was ready, in Heaven far above, and that I'd have to leave behind all those I dearly love. But when I walked through Heaven's Gates, I felt so much at home, for God looked down, smiled at me, and told me "Welcome Home. " So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right there in your heart. Author UnknownShow more
