Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23:6On May 6, 2023, with the words of the Psalms firmly embedded in her heart, Sister Cleo Barbara Harris Simon transitioned her spirit and entered into eternal rest. Cleo Harris Simon was born July 19, 1939 to the late Ferna Lillian Strudwrick and Felix Harris. She confessed to Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Mississippi River by the late Rev. Gomez in 1947. She was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church under several of its deceased pastors and under its current pastor Rev. Earl Bell. Cleo served in many capacities during her tenure at Ebenezer. She sang in the junior and senior choir, while serving as president of the senior choir; taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was a dedicated bible study member and a faithful willing worker of the church in any position she was needed. Cleo Harris Simon was married to the late Wilfred Simon, Sr. , and to that union one son was born, Cyril Prescott Simon. She was also the step mother to Wilfred's children during their marriage; Wilford Simon Jr. , Shonda Carter, April Simon, Conrad Simon and Kevin Bush. Cleo was a firm believer in education. She attended Lowery Training School, Lowery Elementary School and Lowery High School. She furthered her education at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA where she received her bachelor's, master's and plus 30 in the School of Education. Cleo worked 34 years with the Ascension Parish School System teaching and counseling. Because of her dedication and very strict classroom ethics, many of her students are successful today in local, parish and state government. Cleo was not only an outstanding educator but served in many outreach organizations such as: Big Sister on College Campus, Southern University Choir Member, Ascension Parish Clerk of Court election polls, Darrow Community Ladies, Darrow Citizens Unit and Eastern Star. Cleo was also a dedicated member of the St. Amant Middle Black Caucus. Cleo Harris Simon worked 28 years with the Ascension Parish Mental Health. Cleo will forever be remembered and loved by those she leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Cyril Prescott Simon; her step children; Wilford Simon Jr. , Shondra Carter, April Simon, Conrad Simon and Kevin Bush; grandchildren Jonathan Spriggs, Rechard Lewis(Tosheba), DaQuita Johnson, Coi Francios; a number of great grandchildren; four sisters Christine, Esther, Keisha and Quinta Harris; three brothers Clinton, Vernon, and Allen Harris; two god-children Yetive L. Miles and Tyrell Randolph. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Cleo is preceded in death by her parents, Ferna Lillian Strudwrick and Felix Harris; her sisters Ethel Mae Miles, Joan Gloria Pierre and Florence Duckett; brothers Oneal Brady and Larry Randolph, Sr; her granddaughter Jade Landry.
