Clemente Eleazer Lara Sr. , 80, of Mesilla, NM passed away on September 29, 2023, after a battle with cancer. Clemente was born on April 1, 1943, to Ramona Lara and raised by his grandfather Guadalupe Lara. After serving on The United States Army, he attended New Mexico State University and the University of Texas at Arlington. He retired at the age of 61 from Federal Civil Service at White Sands Missile Range. Clemente's favorite pastimes included riding his motorcycle and listening to Tejano and "Oldies but Goodies" music. He enjoyed attending the NMSU Aggie athletic events. He took pride tending to his pecan orchards and giving rides to his grandchildren on his John Deere Tractor. He is survived by his wife Pabla Lara of 59 years, and their two sons and daughter: Jaime Lara (Joyce), Clemente Lara Jr. (Sarah), Crystal Crenshaw (Heath), as well as grandchildren: Travis, Brenden (Shyanne), Noelle, Natasha, Nicole, Braelyne, Ayden, Knox, Emery, and great grandchildren: Elena and Aubrey. He also leaves behind siblings Minerva, Rebecca, Carlos, Yolanda and Sylvia; beloved cousins Nelly, Rosa, Jose, Barbara, Debbie and many more. He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, and brother Abelardo Medina. Visitation for Clemente will be at 10:30 A. M. on Thursday October 19, 2023, at the Basilica of San Albino, 2280 Calle Principal. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 11:00 A. M. , and the Mass will be Celebrated at 11:30 A. M. Interment and Rite of Committal will conclude at San Albino Cemetery where he will be laid to rest. Our beloved mother, grandma, great-grandma, great-great grandma, sister, Tia Lita, and friend, ANGELA MORENO "ANGIE," OR "LITA," of Mesilla, NM, was 93 years young. On November 17, 2023, she entered eternal life peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loving family. Angie was born October 1, 1930, in Hurley, NM to Francisco and Soledad Gutierrez. Angie was considered 1-800-Grandma to all. She would always say "My door is always open! Everyone loved her tortillas, "comidas," red chile, empanadas, and "capirotada. " You name it, she made it. Angie retired from Memorial Medical Center after thirty years where she delivered lots of babies to their new mamas. At 70, she returned to work as a school bus attendant with the Las Cruces school bus company until the age of 85. Angie is survived by her seven children Pablo Padilla (Ramona), Patsy Avalos (Tony), Priscilla Nunez (Raul), Liz Martos, Zeke Padilla (Margaret), Helen Kennedy (Mark), and Rachel Veed, to include twenty grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother Tito Gutierrez (Lupe) and four sisters Josie Paul (Bill, deceased), Lupe Lujan (Tony, deceased), Esperanza Morley and Clorinda Barela (John, deceased), and sister-in-law Cuca Medina (Cando, deceased) and numerous nieces and nephews. Angie is preceded in death by her parents Francisco and Soledad Gutierrez; sisters Belen Barron and Pachita Carrillo; her brothers Ricardo Medina, Beto Medina, and Reymundo Gutierrez. Also, Ernesto Misquez, companion. A special thank you to Father George and the staff at Mesilla Valley Hospice, La Posada; Rev. Christopher Williams, Rev. Francis Gyau and Joann Hackler from the Basilica of San Albino. ANDRES MARTINEZ MONTOYA, age 80, of Mesilla entered eternal life on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at his home surrounded by all his loved ones. He was born February 12, 1942, in Las Cruces to Margarita Martinez and Alberto B. Montoya. Andres was employed at New Mexico State University as Grounds Supervisor until his retirement and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Andres will always be remembered for his sense of humor, laugh, and outgoing personality, but most importantly was the "LOVE" he had for his entire family. One of his many passions in life was being a Baseball Youth Coach and pitching coach for many years. In 1964 Andres married the love of his life, Adelita Herrera Montoya and together they raised their four beautiful children: 2 sons, Erineo H. Montoya (Christina Diana) of Las Cruces and Andres H. Montoya Jr. , (Linda) of Rio Rancho; 2 daughters, Anna Marie Manterola (Peter) of Mesilla and Beatrice Heredia (Steve) of Albuquerque; 2 brothers, George Montoya and Felix Montoya (Luz) all of Tortugas; 2 sisters, Josefina Estrada also of Tortugas and Delfina Lucero of Las Cruces. Other survivors include 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Kyli Mykal Heredia; brothers and sisters. At his request cremation has taken place and Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 10:30 AM Friday February 10, 2023, at The Basilica de San Albino, 2070 Calle de Santiago in Mesilla. Arthur (Tudy) Lucero, a lifelong resident of Mesilla, New Mexico, went home to be with the Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 1, 2023. He was surrounded by his beloved family. Arthur was born on June 21, 1928, in Mesilla, New Mexico, to Virginia Lucero Carreon and Arthur William Long. He graduated from Las Cruces Union High School and faithfully served as a parishioner at Basilica San Albino Catholic Church. Tudy proudly served in the United States Army in the 82nd Airborne Division in the Korean War. He was awarded his Parachute and Glider wings, two Bronze Stars, one Arrow-head Medal along with numerous other medals and recognitions. After serving in the Army, Tudy worked at New Mexico State University until his retirement at the age of 55. He was affectionately known all throughout Mesilla and Las Cruces and many remember him as a husband to Connie Lucero, a father, a grandfather and great-great grandfather. His greatest joys in life were his family as well as gardening and farming. Tudy is survived by his daughter Rita (Raymond) Alvarez of El Paso, Texas, and his sons, Arthur (Diane) Lucero of Mesilla, NM, Rudy (Elena) Lucero of Santa Fe, NM, Paul ( Betty Jo) of Las Cruces, New Mexico and David ( Connie) Lucero of Chandler, Arizona, and by his fourteen wonderful and beautiful grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Tudy is preceded in death by his beloved wife Connie Lucero, Mother Virginia Lucero Carreon, Father Arthur William Long, Brothers Reymundo (Ray) Carreon, Andres (Nick) Lucero, Angel Carreon, and sisters, Teresa Barela, Candelaria (Candy) Padilla, Mercedes (Mercy) Madrid, Guadalupe (Lupe) Hernandez. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 11am at the Basilica of San Albino Church with interment to follow at San Albino Cemetery. Jeanne Aeby, 93, La Mesilla, died Sunday, October 9, 2022. Jeanne was born May 17, 1929 in Aurora, Illinois, to Louis & Margaret Clemens. She grew up in Naperville, IL, where summers would be spent detasseling corn & picking strawberries to earn money for college. She graduated from National Teacher's College in 1951 and first demonstrated the deep pioneering spirit that would define her life, by moving to Los Alamos, New Mexico, to teach children of the National Laboratory staff, at Aspen School. She met Jack Aeby in Los Alamos and they married in 1952. They had 5 children. The family moved to the Espanola Valley in 1959, where Mrs. Aeby taught at Holy Cross School and later, Fairview Elementary. She was well known for an innovative and progressive teaching style that involved an "open classroom" concept where well ahead of her time, her students were encouraged to learn at their own pace and pursue projects like making movies and hunting for dinosaur bones. She introduced her students to computers, international foods and cultures. She could frequently be found singing and playing folk songs for them on her guitar. She retired in 1990, after nearly four decades of innovation in the classroom, but continued with her passion for education by volunteering to teach reading and literacy to adults. Environmental issues were paramount to Mrs. Aeby - before it was cool. She was a founding member of the New Mexico Citizens for Clean Air and Water. She fought tirelessly to improve the air quality in Northern New Mexico. It brought her joy to hear that the San Juan Power Plant ceased burning coal the week before her death. Jeanne loved fiber arts and was an avid quilter. She would often attend International Quilt Festivals in Houston and Paducah and had one of her applique quilts shown at the Texas festival in 1990. St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Espanola, reaped the benefits of her sewing for altar coverings & fair linens. She knit beanies for cancer patients, hats for Seafarers and "Knitted Knockers" for mastectomy patients. She was instrumental in establishing a group of volunteers sewing costumes for the Santa Fe Opera. She also volunteered with the St. Martin de Pores Soup Kitchen. She moved to Hawaii, to be closer to her first two grandchildren, and lived for many years in Honolulu. There she continued her tireless giving to the community through volunteering at the Bishop Museum and her second church home, St. Andrews Episcopal Cathedral. She is survived by two brothers, four children, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her spouse, Jack, her daughter, Margaret, and her brother, Jack Clemens. Adelaida "Ida" M. Ramirez, 72 of Mesilla, NM went home to spend enteral life and glory with the lord on September 9, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Ida was born on April 17, 1950, in Dwyer, New Mexico to Simona M. Ramirez and Lorenzo R. Ramirez. In 1969, she graduated from Deming High School. Ida was a strong supporter for her family and worked her way through high school by working various jobs to help support her family. In 1979, Ida would start a new chapter in her life by moving to Las Cruces, NM alongside her daughter. She would then move to Mesilla, NM in 1986, with her daughter and newborn son. In 1984, Ida began working at Memorial General Hospital, which would later become known as, Memorial Medical Center. From working in the Food and Nutrition department, she would then work various positions within the department such as: working on the line, preparing food trays for patients, dishwashing, cafeteria duty and among other positions. In August of 2015, Ida retired from MMC after 31 years. Ida spent her retirement years alongside her family, as well as watching all her favorite TV crime shows and soap operas; she would also attend church every Sunday. Ida was a devoted catholic and was a member of the Basilica of San Albino Church in Mesilla, NM. Survivors include her daughter, Janette R. Zaragoza and her husband, Dagoberto L. Zaragoza, of Deming, NM; her son, Robert Julian Herrera, of Mesilla, NM; grandchildren Angel Fabian R. Zaragoza and Cassandra Simona R. Zaragoza, both of Deming, NM. Ida is preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo, and Simona Ramirez; her brothers, Manuel "Mane" M. Ramirez, John "Johnnie" Ramirez, Porfirio "Widow" M. Ramirez, Albert "Beto" Ramirez; her sisters, Herminia "Minnie" Ramirez, and Rita R. Macias. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday September 15, 2022 at Bacas Funeral Chapel 300 E. Boutz Road. Our beloved father, brother, grandfather, uncle and dear friend, RAMON LARA JR. , 76, of Mesilla entered eternal life on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born December 22, 1945 in Mesquite to Ramon Sr. , and Eusebia Romero Lara. Ramon served his country honorably in the United State Navy. He was employed in construction as a roofer and was a member of the Piro Manso Tiwa Indian Tribe as well as the Roman Catholic Church. Those left to mourn his passing include three sons, Arthur Lara Sr. , Santiago Lara, and Ramon "Yang" Lara III. , two daughters, Krista Lara and Crystal Lara-Borunda (David) all of Mesilla; four brothers, Fernando Lara (Chickie), Antonio Lara and Bobby Lara all of Las Cruces and David Lara (Mary) of Redlands, CA. Other survivors include a grandson that he raised like his own son, Arthur John Lara Jr. , (Allyssa) of Las Cruces; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly in Redlands, CA. , where he lived for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Herminia Galaz Lara on February 10, 2021; a son, Juan Lara; three sisters, Adela Garcia, Mary Gonzales, and Antonia Avelar; three brothers, Jesus and Johnny Lara and Lorenzo Romero. Elvira was a loving homemaker and would help her late husband "Tacho" on the farm sell produce, especially their green chili. Elvira was a member of the Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Survivors include her loving children, three sons, Rudy Alvarez of Mesilla, Roman Alvarez (Yolanda) of Las Cruces and Ruben Alvarez of Oklahoma City, OK; two daughters, Eva Rel also of Mesilla and Mica Luna (Ray) of Las Cruces. Other survivors include 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Anastacio "Tacho" Alvarez in 2005; granddaughter, Josefina; grandson, Ernie Jr. , 2 great-grandchildren, Christina and Dee; and 1 great-great granddaughter, Asiiah. Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend, CELIA ACOSTA PEREZ, age 92, lifelong resident of Las Cruces entered eternal life on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at La Posada-Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by her loved ones. She was born June 13, 1929 to Atenojenes and Juanita Guzman Acosta. Mrs. Perez was a Business Owner for many years until her retirement. She was a communicant at The Shrine and Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe and The Basilica de San Abino. Those left to mourn her passing include her daughter, Priscilla Perez of Las Cruces; four sons, Ernesto Arzabal (Ana) of El Cajon, CA. , Lucas Carlos Arzabal and Rueben Arzabal both of Las Cruces and Robert Arzabal of Los Angeles, CA. , two sisters, Erlinda Flores and Helen Acosta both also of Las Cruces.
