Jeanette Reynolds Garrett, 87, of Madison Heights passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Fairmont Crossing. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William Edward “Willie” Garrett. Born in Spout Spring, December 25, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Luther Elbert Reynolds and Mattie Harris Reynolds. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Viola R. O’Brien, Dorothy R. Mund and Cornelia R. Carson and three brothers, Albert “Kit” Reynolds, W. C. “Billy” Reynolds and Harry W. Reynolds. She was retired from GE/Ericsson after 37 years of service as a process control auditor. Jeanette loved to sing, she sang with the Sweet Adelines group and also loved to sing at Jordan Baptist Church where she was a member. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Garrett Barrett and her husband Bruce; two granddaughters, Jennifer Saechao and Laura Devier; and eight great grandchildren, Lukas Saechao, Noah Saechao, Seth Saechao, Sarah Saechao, Elizabeth Saechao; Aspen Latendresse, Danny Walker Latendresse and Scarlett Latendresse. A service celebrating her life and faith will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2024 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Rev. Carlton Dunn, Jr. and Rev. Bruce Barrett officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the funeral home. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department.

Claude Melvin Hamlet, 91, of Madison Heights, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024. He was born on April 29, 1932 a son of the late Lula Morton and Robert Lee Hamlet of Phenix, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Sue Allen, Brenda Hicks; five brothers, Robert (Dick) Hamlet, William (Bill) Hamlet, Dave (Ronald) Hamlet, James Preston (JP) Hamlet, Harold Hamlet; brother-in-law, Owen Waller; and sisters-in-law, Peggy Hamlet and Lynda Hamlet. Hamlet served in the United States Navy and was a Korean War Veteran. He returned to the area and worked and retired as a supervisor for Flowers Bakery for 30 years. He is survived by his only sister, Carol Hamlet Waller; sisters-in-law, Betty Hamlet and Dorothy Hamlet; his children, Mark Hamlet, Brenda Salassi (Steve), Bonnie Day (Danny), and Albert Allen. He also leaves behind numerous nieces; nephews; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. As well as not to forget his beloved companion, his dog Shane. There will not be a service or visitation at this time. We are deeply thankful to Burch-Messier Funeral Home for their assistance. Gary Wayne Padgett, 70 of Madison Heights, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at his home. He was born in Lynchburg on May 12, 1953, son of Audrey Stinnette Padgett and the late Lewis Graham Padgett. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Graham Padgett. Gary was retired from Marvin Templeton Paving after 26 years. He enjoyed dirt track racing, NASCAR and playing horse shoes. Left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Mike Padgett and wife Dale, Bill Padgett and wife Vickie, and Ronald Padgett and wife Brenda; a sister in law, Charlene Padgett; his fur baby, Buster as well as several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Rev. Dr. Derik Hamby officiating.

Louise Doss Morcom, a beloved presence in the Madison Heights community, departed this world on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the age of 96. She was the devoted wife of the late Berkley Morcom and leaves behind a legacy of love and family. Born in Lynchburg on July 27, 1927, Louise was the daughter of the late Raymond Doss and Maggie Melrose Doss. While she had a brief career at the C & P Telephone Company, her primary focus was on raising her family with a warmth and dedication that defined her life. A member of Madison Heights Baptist Church, Louise found joy in service, particularly on the kitchen committee and assisting with Vacation Bible School. Her faith was a guiding force, and her kindness extended to all who crossed her path. Louise had a passion for flowers, finding delight in both cultivating them and receiving their beauty. Known affectionately as MeMaw, she adored babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories with each tender moment. In addition to her husband, Louise was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Morcom and Dorothy Knoll. She is survived by her son, Ray Morcom, and his wife Suzanne of Lynchburg, and her daughter, Linda Creed of Shawsville. Louise's legacy lives on through her three grandchildren: Niki Shumate, Adam Morcom, and Carrie Nolan, as well as her two great-grandchildren, Cameron Nolan and Jack Nolan and a number of nieces and nephews. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the many caregivers who assisted her over the past couple of years. A service celebrating her life and faith will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Madison Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Josh Beeler officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. He was born in Wise, Virginia, October 17, 1955, he as the son of the late Roy Reeves and Hazel Beverly Reeves. Wayne began his academic journey at Mountain Empire Community College, where he earned an Associate’s degree in Forest Science. His commitment to the college extended beyond graduation as he later dedicated his talents to the IT department. A skilled professional, Wayne also served as a field technician at Virginia Tech before embracing a well-deserved retirement. Known for his unwavering love for family, Wayne led a prayerful life, leaving a lasting impact on those around him. His talents were as diverse as his interests; gifted in music, singing, and art, Wayne bestowed his family with the beauty of his voice, musical abilities, and intricate drawings. His profound knowledge of nature enriched the lives of those he held dear. Wayne found solace in the great outdoors, reveling in long walks through the mountains and forests. His adventurous spirit was further expressed through his cherished Harley Davidson motorcycle rides, a favorite pastime that brought him joy and freedom. A man deeply connected to his heritage, Wayne embraced his Native American roots that coursed through his bloodline. His passion for this cultural heritage was evident in his engaging storytelling, painting vivid pictures of history that captivated audiences and left a lasting impression. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Wayne leaves behind a legacy marked by his passion for nature, music, and family. Wayne is survived by his wife, Tina Beaver; his daughter, Melissa J. Franco; three sons, Forest Beaver (Samantha), Hayden Shelbe (Emily) and Hunter Beaver (Gloria); three granddaughters, Jelissa Santana, Kimberly Franco and Adeline Shelbe; one great granddaughter, Kallie Wright; his sister, Rita Shell and three brothers, Robert Reeves (Natalie), David Reeves (Fannie) and Phillip Reeves (Lisa) and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service celebrating his life and faith will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

Patsy Franklin Little, 78, of Madison Heights, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. She and Mack are reunited once again, 8 years after his passing, now celebrating 50 years of marriage. Patsy was born and raised in Monroe, Va to the late O.P. and Stella Franklin. Patsy attended Lighthouse Baptist Church, Madison Heights, Va. Left to cherish her memories are her daughters Delores "Dee" Campbell, husband David(Runt), Donna Guill, husband Derick and grandchildren Michaela Guill and Taylor Guill,all of Madison Heights, sisters Nancy F Rogers of Ruckersville and Shirley Schmidt of Forest. Also many nephews, nieces and very special friends including the "Breakfast Widows". Preceding her in death are sisters Jean Franklin and Linda F. Spencer. Patsy was known to many as Nanny, including her cherished grand pets, Molly, Ruby, Vic and Socks. Her last words to her daughters were "now remember girls, I do not want a visitation." So to honor her wishes there will be a graveside service on Saturday, January 13th, at 2:30 pm at Amherst Cemetery,105 Grandview Dr, Amherst, Va 24521 with Corey Forbes officiating pastor of Lighthouse Baptist.
