In loving memory of Clarence Joseph Surges Jr., 78, of Oswego, Illinois, who passed away on February 13, 2019. The former Joliet resident was born September 30, 1940 in Joliet, Illinois to the late Neva nee Wilson and Clarence Surges Sr. Loving husband of Carol Anne Surges nee Cotton. He was a devoted dad to his daughters Kim Savage (Jeffrey), Deborah Wirth, and Tina DeBoer (Douglas), providing a constant source of love, dedication, and humor; that dedication continued as a beloved grandfather to Matthew, Katie, Linzy (Jasen), Ashly, Karli, Benjamin, Taylor, and Jenna. He is preceded in death by his loving parents. He grew up in a family of thirteen children; and even though it was a depression era they were rich with laughter and neighborhood stories. He is survived by his siblings Joan (Ralph, Deceased), Jeanette (Rudy), Joyce (Tom), Jerry, Joey (Maria), Johnny (Carol), and Jackie; preceded in death by his siblings, Robert (Lillian, Deceased), Donald "Mack", Tom (Delores, Deceased), James (Trudy), Judy (Frank, Deceased). He had numerous nieces and nephews; and loyal friends, Ed Wagner and Ken Dickerson. Clarence graduated from Joliet Catholic High. He was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. He was proud to serve his country and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was humble at heart and the epitome of selflessness. Few knew that he was an extraordinary machinist; he worked at Andrew Corporation until retiring in 1997. Clarence was known for his quick wit and sense of humor, it never waned. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed celebrating the 2016 champions. He was dependable, and generous with his time & talents. He and the love of his life, Carol, bounding with endless energy, thoroughly enjoyed retirement. It was often a challenge to find them at home because "they were busy," traveling, gardening, but most of all doing anything they could for and with their family.
