| | | Rev. Clarence Ernest Acklin Reverend Clarence Ernest Acklin was born December 4, 1942, to the late Vivian Louise Wooten and Johnell Christopher Acklin in Richard City, Tennessee. He was the fourth of nine brothers and sisters, and he was the favorite of his fraternal grandmother, Mary Acklin. At an early age, he attended Cedine Bible Camp. He was also a life-long member of Randolph United Methodist (hereinafter "UM") Church in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. Clarence graduated from McReynolds High School in 1962. He attended Morristown Jr. College in Knoxville, Tennessee. Then he transferred to Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi where he met the love of his life, his wife, Vinnie. Three children were born to their union: twin boys, Calvert, and Carlton (who share their father's middle name) and a daughter, Vinita. He was a man of God who devoted his life to the ministry and served his community by being an outstanding example of a godly man. He enrolled in Gammon Theological Seminary of ITC (Interdenominational Theological Center) in Atlanta, Georgia where he obtained his Master of Divinity. While he was at Gammon, he served Hurst UM Church. Clarence worked as an ordained minister in Inkster, Michigan at St. James UM Church from 1971-1974. He was transferred to his third church, Hillcrest UM Church in Detroit, Michigan, and he was there from 1974-1978. After that appointment, he was sent to Norfolk UM Church in Norfolk, Virginia from 1978-1985. His next churches were John Mann UM Church in Winchester, Virginia, and Cedar Hill UM Church in Clearbrook, Virginia from 1985-1988. He served Pleasant View UM Church in Waynesboro, Virginia and Reid's Chapel UM Church in Stuarts Draft, Virginia from 1988-1994. He transferred to Calloway UM Church of Arlington, Virginia, and he served from 1994-2001. His next appointment included Grace Annex UM Church of Purcellville, Virginia, Powell's Grove UM Church, and Austin Grove UM Church where he ministered from 2001 to 2004. For one year, he was assigned to Bethany Ebernezer UM Church and Mt. Airy UM Church of Lynch Station, Virginia. His final appointments were Mt. Zion UM Church of Strasburg, Virginia, and Mt. Zion UM Church of Woodstock, Virginia. He modeled his life after his father who had a passion for fixing anything electrical or mechanical. Clarence holds the title as the best fisherman of all his siblings. Clarence was preceded in death by his brother, Gant Eugene Acklin and sister, Charlsia Anetta Mapp. Those here to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Vinnie; sons, Carlton, and Calvert (Amanda); daughter, Vinita, and grandson, Alexander; brothers, Robert Acklin (Thelma); Alonzo (Yolanda) Acklin; George (Dorothy) Acklin, and sisters, Linda Blair, Floria Acklin, and Elizabeth (Slyvanus) Lott. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins, great-nephews, great-nieces, and friends. A celebration of Life will be 11:00 Saturday May 13, 2023, at John Wesley United Methodist Church in Winchester, VA. , with Rev. Matthew Barcon Borbor officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to 10:45 am at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Winchester, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
