Visitation Friday, October 13, 2023 at Westhaven Funeral Home from 9:00 a. m. until 7:00 p. m. Funeral services Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 12:00 noon, Brownhill M. B. Church, 120 Brownhill Road, Florence, MS 39073 with burial in Brownhill Church Cemetery in Florence, MS.

Lisa Downs Dickson, age 63, entered the gates of heaven on Thursday, November 30, 2023, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Lisa was born to Charlie and Ruby Downs on June 29,1960 in Jackson, Mississippi. She graduated from Forrest Hill High School in 1978. Lisa then attended Hinds Community College after which she began her nursing career. Lisa met the love of her life, John Dickson, in 1991 and the two married on April 30, 1994. After the birth of her first child in 1997, she began her lifelong calling of being a mother. Lisa was always involved in her children’s lives including PTO, home room mother, attending every sporting event, and spending many nights working in concession stands. She also served in the children’s ministry at Country Woods Baptist Church for many years. Lisa enjoyed serving as a maternal figure to all of her children’s friends and cared for them as her own. She loved to host them at every opportunity. Lisa was a selfless, caring person who was always willing to go the extra mile for others with a beautiful smile on her face. Lisa is preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Ruby Downs; brother, Chuck Downs; and sister, Sherron Denise Downs. She is survived by her soulmate, John Dickson; children, Anna Kate Dickson Murphy (husband, Tristan), Jack Dickson (fiancé, Merrill), and Hayes Dickson; grandson on the way, Bennett Murphy; sisters Stephanie Jones (husband, Van) and Charity Towne (husband, Brent); as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers will be Tristan Murphy, Sam Dickson, Brent Towne, Garrett Rushing, Bubba Thompson, and Brayden Whitlock. A visitation will be held Sunday, December 3, 2023, 5-7 pm as well as Monday, December 4, 2023, from 11 am until the hour of service at 12 pm. All will be held at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram. Interment will be at Floral Hills Cemetery in Pearl.Show more

Hilton McDaniel, a beloved husband, father, and devoted member of his community, has passed away at the age of 83. Throughout his career as an automobile painter at Capitol Body Shop, spanning an impressive 32 years, Hilton showcased his exceptional talent and expertise. His dedication to his craft was evident in his meticulous work and the restoration of several vehicles. One of his notable accomplishments was having one of his restored cars featured in a movie, a testament to his remarkable skill. Beyond his professional achievements, Hilton will be remembered for the kindhearted and gentle soul that he was. A true homebody, he found joy in spending quality time with his family. He cherished being a loving husband to Joan Reese McDaniel for an incredible 59 years. Hilton had various hobbies and interests that brought him immense happiness. He found solace in the art of fishing and the satisfaction that came with tinkering with trains, woodworking, and even crafting re-barb arches and flower stands. He was known for making blueberry cobbler and blueberry muffins, he would selflessly share these treats with friends and family, spreading warmth and joy with every bite. He found solace in the pages of Western novels. The wonders of nature also captivated him as an avid birdwatcher. Hilton showed great care for these feathered creatures by crafting numerous feeders and birdhouses. Among his feathered friends, he had a special bond with a crow whom he lovingly referred to as "his crow. " Feeding him and his fellow bird friends cracked corn. As passionate as Hilton was about his hobbies, nothing could compare to his love for God and his unwavering faith. He found solace and community at Wynndale Baptist Church of Terry, where he enjoyed attending Sunday School. Deep friendships formed within his Sunday School class known as "Joy," demonstrating the love and companionship Hilton cultivated throughout his lifetime. Hilton McDaniel's departure leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him. However, his memory will be kept alive through the cherished moments shared and the impact he made on those fortunate enough to be part of his life. He is survived by his wife, Joan; two sons, Gary McDaniel and Kevin McDaniel and his daughter-in-law Teresa; daughter, Cheryl McDaniel; and grandson, Joshua. The family will receive friends and family at the Visitation Wednesday, 11/29/2023, from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, with Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 pm at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, with interment at Lakewood Memorial Park following the service.Show more

Kenneth Cleveland Boyd, died on November 25, 2023 at his home in Florence, Mississippi at the age of 75. Mr. Boyd was born in McComb, Mississippi on February 25, 1948, to parents Robert T. Boyd, Sr. and Kathleen D. Boyd. He graduated from McComb High School in 1967. He attended Baptist Radiology School from 1968-1970 and continued his education at Duke University earning a B. S. degree in Nuclear Medicine. Upon graduation, he began working in the Nuclear Medicine Department at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, where he was employed for 35 years. Mr. Boyd has been a long-time member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Ridgeland, Mississippi. He enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, and fixing things. He is survived by his loving, dedicated, and selfless wife of 54 years, Sarah E. Boyd; children, Stacey Boyd Jackson of Madison, MS; his son Brian Boyd and his daughter-in-law Karissa Boyd, both of Columbus, MS; his grandchildren, Kendall Jackson, Cade Jackson, Chloe Boyd, Brianna Claire Boyd, Addison Boyd and Adeline Boyd; his nephews Mervin Boyd (wife Elly Boyd) and Robert T. Boyd, III (Angie Boyd); and his dogs Rufus and Lucy. He was predeceased by his father, Robert T. Boyd, Sr. , mother, Kathleen D. Boyd, brothers, David T. Boyd and Robert T. Boyd, Jr. , his sister, Beverly Boyd Bullock and nephew David T. Boyd. Harold Lloyd Green, 96, of Florence, MS passed from this life into his Heavenly home on November 17, 2023, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Collins, MS. He was born May 24, 1927, in Ouachita Parish, LA to William Lloyd and Alma Payne Green. He moved to Mississippi with his family at an early age and attended Central High School in Jackson, MS where he met the love of his life, Helen Marie McDonald, who became his wife of 68 years. Harold enlisted in the US Marine Corps during World War II and later enlisted in the US Army after the war had ended. After military service, he enrolled in plumbing school in Kansas City, MO. During these years his family lived in Kansas City, MO; West Monroe, LA; Midland, TX; and San Bernardino, CA, where construction opportunities were more readily available at that time. In 1959, they moved to Florence, MS to be near family. Harold’s professional life included plumbing, pipefitting, and temperature controls. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union from 1955 to present. Upon retirement he was an avid woodworker and enjoyed crafting many beautiful items of cherry and walnut. He also enjoyed local and national trips on his motorcycles. Harold was a long-time member of FBC Florence, MS. He was also a long-time member of Evening Star Lodge No. 70 where he was a Past Master and was also a 32nd degree Scottish Right Mason. Harold was an industrious man and valued the importance of hard work. He modeled the characteristics of honesty, integrity, and industry as well as love of the Lord and family. He was a kind, compassionate, and generous person. He is preceded in death by his father, William Loyd Green; his mother, Alma Payne Green Kopperl; his sister, Harriet Green Boyd; and his wife of 68 years, Helen Marie Green. He is survived by his children, Laura Helen Ferguson (Marc) of Ocean Springs, MS; and Donald Lloyd Green (Janet) of Florence, MS. He was blessed with three grandchildren Jacquelyn Marie Ferguson of Ocean Springs, MS; John Lloyd Green of Florence, MS; and Susan Green Lewis (Nick) of Brandon, MS and three great grandchildren Eli, Noah, and Naomi. His life was further enriched by many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am with service at 11:00 all at Chancellor Funeral Home in Florence. Interment will follow at Florence Cemetery.
