Clara "Jean" Thomas Ellis, of Houston, TX, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was 89 years old. Jean was born December 5, 1933, in Conway, AR. She spent most of her childhood with her aunt and grandfather, moving from Arkansas to Texas when she was around 9 years of age. Raised by a school teacher, she developed a great appreciation for music, reading, and education. Jean spent most of her high school and college years in Corpus Christi, TX, where she attended W. B. Ray High School and Del Mar Jr. College. She attended Texas A&I University in Kingsville, TX, where she met her husband of 65 years, Virgil Ray Ellis. Jean and Virgil made their forever home in the Spring Branch area of Houston, TX. They attended Tallowood Baptist Church for more than 45 years. Jean worked for the Spring Branch Independent School District as a substitute in the administrative offices of several schools. She left to become office manager and legal assistant to a local attorney where she worked for 10 years. Jean was a servant to others and spent many years as a volunteer at Memorial Assistance Ministries and Spring Shadows Elementary School. Helping others in need and reading to children brought her great joy. She was an avid bowler, sports fan - especially the Arkansas Razorbacks and Houston Astros. Her kindness, warm smile, and bright blue eyes will be missed by everyone who knew her. Jean is survived by her children Brenda Ogden (Harold), Virgil "Ray" Ellis, Jr. (Janice), and Sharon Hafner (Kevin), eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Ray Ellis, and son James Clayton Ellis.
