ALBANY Cinda O'Brien passed away Wednesday Oct. 4, 2023 after a long battle with Huntington's Disease at the age of 54. Despite many of the struggles associated with this brutal disease she was blessed in many ways including great doctors, caregivers, friends, and the kindness of everyday people. Cinda's daughter Hayley was her guiding light. She was so proud of everything that Hayley accomplished and even when Cinda could no longer speak she would light up whenever Hayley walked through the door. The bond they shared was incredible and inspiring. Professionally, Cinda was a teacher for nearly 18 years at Duanesburg Central School retiring in 2013. For 17 of those years, she singularly focused on reading instruction. Cinda took great pride in helping lead many initiatives including Early Literacy Profile, Fundations, securing several grants, and making sure all of her student's needs were met with the best instructional practices. Cinda had a strong faith in God, loved listening to Christian music, and enjoyed watching the Sunday sermons of Grace Fellowship and Immanuel Church on YouTube when getting to church became too difficult. A diehard New Orleans Saints fan - Cinda's highlight was watching them win Super Bowl XLIV against the Colts. She never missed a free Sunday watching them and enjoyed rooting for her favorite player, Drew Brees. Cinda enjoyed scrapbooking, crafting, home projects, and enjoyed doing the majority of the household trade work. The family joked that she did all the work while her husband, Kyle, watched and held the ladder. On occasion, she would let him paint the closets so no one would be able to see his shoddy work. Cinda is predeceased by her late father Richard Watson survived by her husband Kyle, daughter Hayley her mother Linda (Milt) Petzold, , her beloved Aunt Cheryl (Mike) Sergi, sister Stephanie, nephew Sam (Raleigh) Bryden, as well as many close cousins. In addition, her brother-in-laws Mike (Nicole), John (Carolyn), Matt O'Brien, and their children survive. Cinda was extremely close to her mother-in-law, Jean O'Brien, and her deceased father-in-law, Jack O'Brien. Big thanks and appreciation goes to her in-laws for rearranging many parts of their lives to accommodate Cinda's needs including setting up an apartment at their residence to include handicap accessibility. She forever cherished the memories made with her sister Stephanie and nephew Sam. Cinda had a lot of great friends who were loyal to the end. In fact, she remained close with her best friend from high school, Dawn Mushtare, who provided much support to Cinda and Kyle. Special thanks go to her cousin, Carol Jean Cerqua, who faithfully made and delivered two pumpkin pies to Cinda every week for 3 years when Cinda was ill so she could happily ingest her daily intake. The family would also like to thank Amanda Willey who dedicated her life to taking daily care of Cinda for the past nine years. Appreciation and thanks also go to Jasmine Grande, Marlene Felix, and Vulana Barcelano for help caring for her these last four years. Lastly, special thanks to Dr. Molho, and Dr. Hanspal for their care, as well as Nancy Spencer NP, and Dr. Kevin Costello both of whom at the drop of a hat would field phone calls, set up visits, and make sure that all of Cinda's needs were met no matter the time of day. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Cinda's life on Sunday October 15, 2023 at 1 pm at Midway Fire Station, 1956 Central Avenue, Colonie NY 12205. A graveside committal service will take place on Saturday October 14 2023 at 11 am St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford.
