Julia Ghigliotty

Julia Ghigliotty

Age - 68

December 2, 2023

Julia "Julie" Ghigliotty, a beacon of joy and laughter in the lives of all who knew her, closed her final curtain on November 30, 2023, in the same Brooklyn neighborhood where her story began on January 9, 1955. Julie, a spirited and loving soul, faced breast cancer with the same courage and humor she brought to every aspect of her life. Julie's early years were spent in the bustling streets of Brooklyn, where she honed her talents for cooking and creating laughter at Bishop Kearny High School, graduating in 1972. She swiftly transitioned from student to the heart of Ayers and Thompson, whereas the Office Manager and Legal Secretary, she ruled with a gentle fist and a mischievous wink from '72 until '94. Julie's colleagues remember her as the one who could find the funny in the footnotes and the giggles in the legal briefs. Beyond the office walls, Julie's interests painted the town in vibrant hues of joy. She was a maestro in the kitchen, a green-thumbed goddess in her garden, and a crafty artisan whose arts could have put the 'fun' in any fundraiser. Julie's love for amusement parks was legendary; The swinging cars on the Wonder Wheel were her chariot, and Julie rode them with the same zest and zeal with which she lived her life. Her decorating skills were such that even the holidays seemed to ask for her advice. Each room she touched became a festive celebration of the moment. Julie leaves behind a legacy of laughter and love. Her husband, Luis, was her partner in both comedy and life for 45 years. She was the scriptwriter for her children, Rosemary and Hector, teaching them to find humor in the everyday. Her grandson, David, who was the light of her life, and her siblings, Michele and Frank, will carry on her tradition of spirited storytelling. In a life brilliantly lived, Julie taught us that courage could be found in a smile and that the most profound strength was the ability to laugh in the face of adversity. Julia Ghigliotty, the woman who could turn any trial into a punchline, will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered as a woman who lived and laughed on her own terms.Show more

Li pat mizisyen men li te adore mizik. Claude was born on August 29 1940 in Chancerelle to PauloneNarcisse and Eugene Sabin. He loved music and could describe the layout of port-au-princemetropolitan area via the different musical groups. He was a big fan of Jazz des Jeunes and Webert Sicot and Guy Durosier (Guy was his neighbor when he lived on Rue Montalais in Port-au-Prince. His favorite singer of all time is Charles Azanavour. He also had a very deep love of Mexican music (rancheras) and Cuban music. Claude Emmigrated to Miami in the late 1970's where herealized his dream of owning and operating a music store. One thing about Claude he was his own man, never really have any attachment to things outside of music and Haiti (leftist leaning). He liked to joke around and visited friends and family. One could say that he was a rebel and lived his life for him despite having love for others. He expended his knowledge through reading and listening to radio. He held a large collection of Haiti Progres and other news publications where he kept current with the news of Haiti while he lived in Miami and New York as a form of resistance. Exile did not only come in the form of direct expulsion from the government or those in power but in the totality of country's developing condition at that time. You could sometimes equate him with a philosopher with his own controversies. In many ways he was like Normand Malavyin Emile Olivier's novel Passage only that Robert did not get to see Haiti again and Claude did.Show more

Eric Delva

Eric Delva

Age - 75

December 1, 2023

Eric Delva was born on November 14th, 1948 in Saint Marc, Haiti. Eric was retired at the time of his passing but he had a long history of hard work towards taking care of his family, his highest priority. His resume would have him listed as an Insurance Agent (during a short period living in Haiti), a Cab Driver (in NYC), an Entrepreneur (his own Amway business) and finally a Civil Engineer (NYC and Haiti). Eric spent the better part of his 30 plus years engineering career working for the City of New York, first with the Department of Transportation and subsequently the Department of Environmental Protection, where he has made some lifetime friends. I am sure some of these friends here today would attest to that. Eric was an avid soccer fanatic, his favorite team was Real Madrid. He loved to analyze political issues with friends and enjoyed to play board games. Eric could not hear the sounds of a drum without moving his hips. He was a good dancer but beware to all "wap pran gouyad kan mem. " Eric loved his family and would speak to most of his cousins every day. Most people referred to Eric as an advisor, a mentor, and a role-model. He had great listening skills and often, if not always, gave very sound advices. Eric was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2017 and underwent several treatments. He valiantly fought this dreaded disease until he took his last breath that night at 10:25 PM. His nephew, Evens Vincent, niece, Patrice Jean, and cousin, Edwidge Eugene became his caring team during various hospital stays. In fact throughout his sickness they've always been there with him and for him. They've been key in helping him with decisions on best course of treatment at different phases of the disease and advocated for him. We all have many funny and sweet memories about him, and we could go on telling his stories for days. But we know that would only cover a very short version of his life and it would still be an imperfect version of the person we all loved so dearly. Even though he's gone, he will forever be with us, such as in the leaves of the trees that he planted. Let's continue to remember and honor his principles that will be treasured by many generations in our family to come. It is with great sorrow to announce that Eric Delva has passed away on November 15th, 2023, at 75 years old. Eric will be remembered by his three children, Tresoline Delva, Geuka Delva, and Eric Delva JR and his step-daughter, Stephane Smart. Eric had five grand-children and two step grandchildren. He will be remembered by his two older brothers, Ernst and Serge Benoit and his 16 nieces and nephews. His memory will be cherished forever by all these families deeply affected by his passing: Delva, Benoit, Jean, Joseph, Eugene, Estime, Guillaume, Case, and Vincent. Rest In Peace Eric, we'll see you on the other side. Show more
