Age - 70
December 8, 2023
Clayton Earl Powell entered this world on Monday, August 10, 1953, in North Carolina, to the late Louise Powell. In his early years, he embraced the teachings of Christ and became a member of Salem Baptist Church in Emporia, Virginia, while also attending Zion Baptist Church in Purdy, Virginia. Affectionately known as 'P-Man' or 'Clarence,' Clayton found joy in spending quality time with his family and friends. His devotion was evident in his 47-year marriage to the love of his life, Linda Tyler Powell. This union brought forth three beautiful children, and Clayton found unparalleled pleasure in the presence of his loved ones. He had a passion for drag racing, fishing, tuning into his scanner, car washing, and spoiling his cherished grandchildren. Clayton dedicated 38 years and 8 months of hard work to Georgia Pacific in Emporia, Virginia, until his well-earned retirement. His absence will be deeply felt by those who knew and loved him. On Wednesday, November 29, 2023, while in the peaceful confines of his home, Clayton responded to God's call, transitioning from earthly labor to sweet eternal rest. In addition to his loving mother, Louise, and beloved wife, Linda, Clayton was preceded in death by his siblings: Joe Robinson, Freddie Robinson Sr. , Walter Robinson, Thomas Robinson, Reverend Jimmy Robinson, Sallie R. Smith, Annie Claiborne, Onnie Claiborne and Helen Pair. Clayton's departure leaves behind not sorrow but a legacy of cherished memories, including: his son, Edwin Tyler of Hampton, Virginia; daughters, LaShonda Brown (Stanley) and LaWanda Powell, along with devoted friend, Don Nelson; grandchildren, Brianna Tyler, LaNiyah Brown, Vidal Nelson and Mason Nelson--all of Emporia, Virginia. He is also survived by siblings, Cathy Williams of Emporia, Virginia, Kevin McKeiver of Baltimore, Maryland, and Samuel Robinson Sr. (Michael) of Emporia, Virginia. Brothers-in-law, Russell Tyler and Perry Tyler both of Richmond, Virginia; Sisters-in-law, Ernestine Moore of Petersburg, Virginia, Gertrude Lawson (Larry) of Plainfield, New Jersey, Lillian Manning, and Carolyn Jones (Thomas), both of Emporia, Virginia, join the extended family mourning Clayton's passing. Devoted friends, Annie Lee, Ronnie Moss and Glen Powell, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, will forever hold the memory of Clayton dear to their hearts. Relatives and Friends are encouraged to visit Mr. Powell's tribute wall to share memories, extend condolences and to order floral tributes, as sentiments to the family. ***TO ENSURE DESIRED FLORAL SELECTIONS AND A TIMELY DELIVERY, PLEASE PLACE ORDERS THE DAY PRIOR TO THE FIRST VIEWING OF DECEASED***Show more
