Donald Edward Florence, beloved husband of Mary Catherine Florence for 65 years, passed away on Dec 4th, 2023 at the age of 88 yrs old. He was a devoted father of four, cherished grandfather of nine, and proud great-grandfather of four. In addition, he was a loving bonus grandfather and great-grandfather to another four. Born on August 5, 1935 on a farm in Grand-Prairie, Texas, Donald was the son of Jack Florence and Mary Florence. He grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas and developed a strong work ethic working on the family farm from a young age. After completing high school, Donald worked at a pharmacy until he was drafted into the Army where he served from 1959-1963 with high security clearance during the Vietnam War. He embarked on a successful career as a business owner of a catering truck. His excellent personal skills helped him grow a profitable business so much so that when the company he sub-leased his truck from had an opening, they offered him a management position. He excelled in his field, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients alike. He eventually managed entire locations providing equipment and product for hundreds of small caterers. Donald's professionalism, integrity, and likability were the hallmarks of his work. Outside of his professional life, Donald was an avid golfer and devoted family man. He met the love of his life, Mary Catherine, and they were united in marriage on June 2nd, 1957. Their 1st Christmas together Cathy gave Don golf clubs. He was able to celebrate 3 hole-in-ones during his years of playing. Don and Cathy created a home filled with love and laughter and shared countless memories. Donald's four children and their spouses, Sondra and her late husband James, Terri, Darryl and his beloved wife Beth, and Margaret and her cherished husband Bill, were his pride and joy, and he cherished the time spent with each of them. AND Dad was a Dog person, he had many faithful dogs over the years Cookie, Daisy Mae, Jelly Bean, more recently Ranger and Molly. As a grandfather, Donald embraced his role with warmth, love, and laughter. He was a constant source of entertainment, guidance, and encouragement to his nine grandchildren, Patrick, Robert, Daniel, Micheal, Samantha, Darlene, Mason, Harrison, & Bryce. He celebrated their milestones, and provided a loving presence in their lives and enjoyed teasing them and making them laugh. Becoming a great-grandfather brought immense joy to Donald's life. He cherished the opportunity to see his family grow and to pass down his wisdom and love to the next generation. His five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Brandon, Cadon, Aubree, and Liam were a source of immeasurable happiness, and he treasured every moment spent with them. Donald's love extended beyond his immediate family, as he became a beloved bonus grandfather and great-grandfather to another four. He embraced Megan and Logan as well as Noelle and Natalie as part of his family, offering his love and support. Donald will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him. A visitation for Donald will be held Friday, December 15, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, prior to the funeral service, at Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 2020 S Collins St, Arlington, TX 76010. Funeral service to follow at 10:30 AM. A committal service will occur Monday, December 18, 2023 at10:00 AM at Moore Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 1219 North Davis Drive, Arlington, TX 76012. Dr. Vasant Krishna Prabhu was born on May 13, 1937 in Kumta, India. In 1958, Prabhu received his Bachelor of Science degree from Karnatak University. He also received a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Science in 1962, a Master of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1963, and a Doctor of Science also from M. I. T. in 1966. He was the recipient of the Alfred Hay Gold medal from the Indian Institute of Science (1961) and the Centennialr Medal of IEEE (1984). Dr. Prabhu was at Bell Labs for 25 years. At Bell Labs, Prabhu was part of the team that invented cellular phone networks. In 1986, he was elevated to the grade of IEEE fellow for his contributions to interference, noise, and spectral analysis of analog and digital communications systems. Dr. Prabhu, in March 1991, named one of his Bell Labs inventions "the Personal Communication System," a prototype cellular wrist phone. Dr. Prabhu started as a professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Arlington teaching telecommunication courses in 1991. His area of excellence was in digital wireless communication systems. He was awarded with the Robert Q. Lee Excellence in Teaching award from UTA (1998). He became the professor emeritus in 2008. During his tenure at UTA, Dr. Prabhu was the supervising professor for 17 Doctoral students and over 25 Masters students. In his honor, his graduate students endowed the Barbara & Vasant Prabhu Scholarship, named for Dr. Prabhu and his late wife of more than 55 years in 2022 to award the students specializing in telecommunications. He is remembered by countless students for his thoroughness and passion for mathematical rigor, his openness and willingness to help anyone that would approach him. Dr. Prabhu's legacy will continue through his lasting contributions to the field of wireless communication. Vasant and Barbara are survived by their son, Jayant Prabhu - a Harvard Law School graduate who resides in Arlington, VA and is a federal prosecutor.Show more

"Mr. Dang Xuan Nguyen, age 87, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023, in Arlington, Texas. He was born to Nguyen Xuan Kim and Nhu Thi Nho on September 2, 1936 in Nam Dinh, Vietnam. After 4 years of battling Parkinson's Disease, Mr. Dang Xuan Nguyen is finally able to rest, leaving behind a life well lived. He will be sincerely missed by his loved ones, family and friends. Mr. Dang Xuan Nguyen loved football (his favorite team was the Cowboys), listening to music, attending Vietnamese veteran reunions, reading, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Graveside: 11 a. m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2023, at Laurel Land Memorial Park. Rosary: 5 p. m. Sunday in Greenwood Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude in her memory. She was born Aug. 2, 1941, transitioned from this world on Dec. 6, 2023. She was 82 years old. Maria is survived by her devoted children, Gabriela Prieto Ganjoor (Shahram), Luis Alberto Prieto (Iris), Jimmy Prieto (Gabriela) and daughter-in-law, Imelda Prieto; siblings, Neme, Belem, Amalio, Manuel, Abel, Tonita, Lucy, Severiano, Jr. , and Gilberto. In heaven, she is reunited with her cherished daughters, Victorina Prieto and Tina Prieto; along with her son, Lorenzo Prieto; parents, Rufina Ochoa and Samuel Prieto; brother, Isidro Prieto; and her husband of 53 years, Dionicio Prieto also awaits her in the afterlife. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Eddie (Maria), Shahriela , Brandon, Edgar, Armani, Dillon, Nadia, Luis II, Simon and Santiago; and two great-grandchildren, Luca, Ariana and Archibaldo. SAGINAW - Leandro Martinez was born Sept. 22, 1944, in Coleman, Texas. The seventh of Demetria and Maria Martinez's 16 children, he grew up in Plainview, Texas, before living in Amarillo and Austin for many years. Leandro married the love of his life, Sandra Kay, and together they shared 46 beautiful years. In 1985, they made Saginaw their home. A dedicated member of the Golden Gloves Boxing Association in Plainview, Leandro also pursued a career as a meat cutter, working with Furs, Albertsons, and Carnival. His life was deeply enriched by his relationships with his siblings, family members, and special friends. An avid golfer, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren. Leandro was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra Kay; his parents, Demetria and Maria; brothers, Demetria, Jr. , Benito, Jerry, Angel and Johnny Joe; and sisters, Rosa Rodriguez and Elida Martinez. He is survived by his three daughters from a previous marriage, Kathleen Williams, Diane Hassler and Angelina Martinez; stepchildre, Terry and Edie Roan; grandchildren, Eric Benson, Josh Hassler, Lesli Hassler, Brittany Bryan, Terry Dean Padgett, Kristen Roan, Cindy Roan, Jordan Roan, Harley Whipkey, Skyler Whipkey and Meagan Whipkey; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he adored. Leandro's life was a testament to the strength of family, the joy of companionship, and the value of hard work. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness, humor, and love for life.
