Loretta Finstad

Loretta Finstad

Age - 88

November 30, 2023

Our beloved wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma Loretta Alene (Hyles) Finstad, 88, passed away November 27, 2023. Service: 9:30 a. m. Monday, December 4, 2023 in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: St. Olaf Rock Church Cemetery, Cranfills Gap, Texas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p. m. Sunday, December 3, 2023 in Mount Olivet Chapel. Loretta was born on December 31, 1934, and raised in Hico, TX. She moved to Fort Worth after graduating high school where she met her husband of 69 years, Wilson "Buster" Finstad. It was love at first sight. Dad took such great care of Mom over the past several years and we are so grateful for the love and devotion he has for her. Mom's greatest legacy is her family. She and Dad have three children: son Stephen Finstad (wife Diann), and daughters Deborah McMenamy (husband John), and Rachel Gregory (husband Bobby). They have seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Melissa Finstad (husband Todd Hopkins, children Annabella and Cohen), Nicholas Finstad (daughter Emma), Tristan McMenamy (children Bridget, Brock, and Beau), Trey McMenamy (wife MaryLou), Joshua Gregory, Quinton Gregory, and Madelyn Gregory. Mom was one of the most humble and selfless people that you could ever know. She loved bigger and better than all of us deserved. She always pointed out the good in us and the promise the future held if we were willing to put in the hard work. She never bragged on herself, but loved sharing the accolades of her children and grandchildren, of whom she was always so proud. Mom was a true matriarch in every sense of the word. She loved her family and they were her whole life. If one of her kids or grandkids was involved in any activity, rain or shine she was there. She would clap and whistle and was your biggest cheerleader. Mobility issues late in her life didn't stop her-supporting and cheering on her family just meant too much for her to miss any events. She took pride in the accounting work she did at Fort Worth National Bank, City Motors, Beneficial Insurance and Lind Paper Company, and in her volunteer work at the polls, helping to run elections in Tarrant County. Outside of work and volunteering, Mom took great joy in water skiing, playing board games (Wahoo!), classic Nintendo games, and traveling with her family. She loved any and all things outdoors-particularly gardening, and she had an especially green thumb for African Violets. When she started her ceramics hobby many of her creations were the planters that showed off the beautiful plants she nurtured. Her smile lit up any room and her laugh-we can still hear it-was contagious. She always said that we were the loves of her life, and she was the love of ours. We loved you more Mom! Loretta was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Fred and Mattie Hyles, and siblings, Ray Hyles, Edward Hyles, and Louise Russell. She will be missed by her brothers Lloyd Hyles and his wife Judy, Vernon Hyles, Clara Grace Burnette, and Loretta's many nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbors, and friends. Pallbearers are sons-in-law John McMenamy and Bobby Gregory; grandsons Nicholas Finstad, Trey McMenamy, Joshua Gregory, and Quinton Gregory; and grandson-in-law Todd Hopkins. Honorary pallbearers are great grandsons, Cohen Adams, Brock Ethridge and Beau Ethridge.Show more
