Jesus G. Rodriguez, beloved father and grandfather, of Chicago, Illinois, was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the age of 77. He was born in Mexico in 1946 and raised in San Luis Potosi. He emigrated to the United States at the age of 18 and was proud to gain citizenship in 2003. Jesus met his wife, Carmen Rivera, in Chicago where they fell in love, established their family, and lived out their lives. For Carmen, Jesus provided stability and balance with his endearing and happy nature. In times of stress or grief, he was calm and even-keeled, offering easy going support. He was a lifelong employee at International Paper, providing for his family of three sons. Living in Chicago West Town, Jesus and Carmen last resided in Portage Park and cherished their home when it was filled with their children, siblings, grandchildren, friends, and extended family. Jesus served as a faithful parishioner at St. Pascal Catholic Church. He admired sports especially soccer and boxing and was a devoted Cubs fan. He was particularly adept at dominoes because he was a sneaky yet crafty player. He was an avid reader never left home without a good read under his arm especially his love of Gangster/Mob chronicles and movies. Jesus is survived by his three children, Jesus Jr. (Marivel), Mario (Anne), and Francisco (Veronica); and his six grandchildren, Michael (Emily), Daniel, Hannah, Katia, Carys, and Cielle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen, by four years and two days; May they now together rest in peace. Melvin Earl Chappel was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 12, 1942, to parents Juanita Chappel and James Crossgrove. November 21, 2023, Melvin Chappel, 81, of Antioch, California, passed away peacefully in the hospital surrounded by family and friends. After Melvin graduated from Englewood High School in 1960 and obtained his Associate Degree in Accounting from Kennedy King College, he also studied Accounting and Finance at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, he pursued his Master's in Business Administration. In his adult life, he served in the branch of the military Air Force as a communications specialist with top-secret clearance from 1963-1966. Melvin moved to California in 1978, where he met his love, Cassandra. Melvin and Cassandra married in 1979 and resided in Oakland, California, with son Eric and daughter Monique. In 1990, they moved to Antioch, which they have called home for over 30 years. Melvin worked as a supervisor in the U. S. Federal Government of the Health and Human Services Department for over 30 years. In 2003, Melvin retired and spent his time serving two terms with the Contra Costa County Civil Grand Jury and as a Fire Commissioner for Contra Costa County. Melvin also served on the Sales Tax Citizens oversight committee for the City of Antioch and was a CCC First 5 of Antioch Board Member. Melvin was a huge sports fan and collector of many gadgets, coins, stamps, books, music, and clothes. Melvin worked as a Pac-10 official for 14 years at the college and professional levels in football and basketball. He retired in 1999. Melvin's favorite pastime was BBQs, hosting family events and birthday parties, watching sports, researching his coins, working on his crossword puzzles, watching MSNBC, riding his electric scooter to the store, shopping on Amazon, calling Geek Squad, listening to his music, and hosting Thanksgiving dinners each year. Melvin was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a loving, caring, and compassionate person. Melvin had a great sense of humor and welcomed everyone into his home and life. He loved to travel, go cross country in his RV, head to the casinos with his wife, and read especially about Chicago. He was baptized at an early age and loved Jesus Christ. Melvin adored spending time with his family, especially his sons, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, Juanita Chappel and James Crossgrove; his mother-in-law, Grace Smith, nieces Cynthia Williams, Nicole Gibson, and Sherri Howard; brothers-in-law James Galbert and Vernon Booker; and sisters-in-law Shirley Howard and Brenda Booker. Melvin is survived by his wife, Cassandra Chappel, the love of his life. Melvin leaves to remember him with love, his children, Dardi Hammonds (Larry), Malcolm Chappel (Norma), Eric Chappel (Desiree), Monique Chappel, Roxane Slaughter (Wes), Michael Russell Chappel (Kathy), Tami Bialk (Richard), siblings Toni Crossgrove, Paul Crossgrove, Selina Jackson, his nephews Cameron Barnes, Chris Barnes, Ian Crossgrove, Alexander Crossgrove, his grandchildren Steven Hammonds, Matthew Hammonds, Brandon Chappel, Eric Chappel Jr. , Tristan Chappel, great-grandchildren Elijah Hammonds and Saxton Hammonds, sisters-in-law Celestine Galbert (James-deceased), Cecilia Belue (Eric), brother-in-law Andrew Howard (Yolanda), cousins Barbara Muse (Ray), Rea Francis Howard, Betty Center, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. Sharon Marie Dykema was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. Sharon passed away on November 24th, 2023 at the age of 74. Born March 24th, 1949 to Charles and Margaret Fiss, Sharon grew up and lived most of her life in Chicago. She was raised with two adoring sisters, whom she held very dear throughout her days. Sharon was married to her loving husband, Dennis Dykema, for 47 years before her passing, with whom she raised 5 children, Robert, Michael, James, Alan, and Beth. Sharon worked many different jobs throughout her lifetime, all of which allowed her to carry out adventures that would become stories her children and grandchildren will carry with them forever. Traveling, cooking, reading, and painting were a few of her many talents and hobbies. Most importantly, she knew how to live life better than most. Her youthful soul and gorgeous laugh are things that those who knew her will never be able to forget. She lived her life full of joy, always instilling in her children that what happens will always be what is "meant to be. " Above everything, Sharon lived to be around her family. Being the matriarch of a very large legacy, raising 5 children, loving 11 grandchildren, and adoring 18 great-grandchildren during her life. With a heart as full as hers, she made sure to surround her family with a love that could never be replicated. They will carry on her undying kindness and comfort to future generations, as Sharon raised her children to love like her. Sharon Dykema was one of a kind.
