Cheryl L. McClure, 64Cheryl L. McClure, 64 of Ashland passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023 in her home following a five month courageous battle with colon cancer. She was born on March 8, 1959 in Ashland the daughter of Lawrence Joe and Marylou (nee Daugherty) GusanCheryl graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1977. She married the love of her life, Harold "Toby" McClure on December 27, 1980. Cheryl retired after more than 28 years from Brethren Care Village where she worked as a STNA. She was a member of Ashland Brethren in Christ Church. Cheryl enjoyed collecting snow men figurines and loved her canine companions. She was famous for her sweet sun tea; a family favorite. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose presence was the greatest thing in her family's life. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Toby McClure of Ashland; her mother, Marylou Gusan of Ashland; three daughters, Nikki McClure of Ashland, Angela (Christopher) Stewart of Perrysville and Kim (Matthew) Roberts of Ashland; four grandchildren, K'Lynne, Livia, Aiden, and Kase; two sisters, Joyce (Dave) Rohrbaugh of Loudonville and Kathy (Keith) Huff of Chesterville; and one brother, Alan Gusan of Ashland. Cheryl is preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Joe Gusan; one grandson, Maverick Harris; and two brothers, Larry and Gary Gusan. A Celebration of Cheryl's Life followed by a luncheon will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 1:00 p. m. in the Ashland Brethren in Christ Church, 2750 Mifflin, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Pastor Keith Tyson presiding. Suzanne (Stumbaugh) Van Wye passed from this life into the eternal presence of her Lord and Saviour on December 7, 2023 surrounded by her husband and family. Suzanne was born on August 16, 1935 in Ashland, Ohio to Allen and Otha Stumbaugh. She had an outgoing personality, charming wit and a beautiful smile. She loved playing the piano and enjoyed playing the oboe in her High School marching band. At the age of 13 an orphan boy fell in love with her and her smile captured his heart. Although it took time for "Susie" to come around, they got married at the age of 18. Years of adventure awaited them. They lived every moment together and their commitment to each other was recently celebrated at their 70* anniversary. Their commitment to the Lord and each other has kept and sustained them. Suzanne would tell you that the most important decision she ever made was on July 19, 1960 when she and her husband knelt beside the couch in their living room and put their faith and trust in Jesus as their Saviour. This decision alone impacted the direction of the family for generations to come. Suzanne attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri graduating in 1970, all while raising 4 children. She enjoyed serving the Lord at church in various ways. She was the pianist, Sunday School teacher and had a beautiful soprano voice. She also had a gift and passion for storytelling. Children were captivated by her. Suzanne influenced and encouraged many children over the years that are now serving the Lord in ministry. Suzanne loved family gatherings and for many years cooked Sunday dinner. Her family especially loved it when she made spaghetti. When she wasn't gathering with family you could find her on the back porch feeding the birds and watching for deer. Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Otha Stumbaugh, 3 brothers, Allen Jr. , Larry and Roe Stumbaugh, and infant granddaughter, Jessica Yvonne Van Wye. She is survived by her husband Henry Darwyn Van Wye of Loganville, GA, son David (Judy) of Loganville, GA; daughter Amy Sue Burnett (Brad) of Oxford, MS, son Eric (Tammy) of Bartonville, IL, and daughter Angela of Loganville, GA. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren; Laura, Andrea, Eric, Adam, David, Jennifer, Phillip, Andy, Abby and 16 great-grandchildren. Terry C. Burt, age 76, of Sheffield Village, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 3,2023. He was born on January 29, 1947, in Ashland, Ohio to Howard C. and Esther (Hostler) Burt. Terry grew up on Lake Erie and was a life-long sailor who enjoyed spending time with family andattending school functions and sporting events for his grandchildren. Terry was a master of the grill. Heloved sharing his wisdom with others around him with a nice glass of red wine in his hand. He was a kind and loving man who was always willing and happy to help anyone at any time. Hisknowledge and ability to fix anything was endless and he always loved a new challenge. He was a long-time employee of Met-Chem where he was an electrical engineer who traveled the world maintainingthe company's equipment. He is survived by his previous wife, Patricia, and children: Brian (Chrissy), Melissa (Robert), Matthew(Lora), and Jessica (Drew) Weber, as well as his seven grandchildren. Terry is also survived by his longtime companion, Carlita VonCarlowitz and her children: Crystal (Aaron)Lawless-Dowis, Cody (Angel) Lawless, and Charlotte (Mathew) Simmons, as well as her sevengrandchildren. Irene Helen Vojtush, age 88 of Ashland, passed into the arms of the Lord on December 5, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Irene was born in Leckrone, PA, on April 28, 1935, the daughter of Pearl (Moxley) and Michael Kobilack. She married Thomas Joseph Vojtush on May 9, 1953. During her lifetime, Irene worked at Luray Lanes, The Diner, Lawson's Convenience Store, Burger Chef, and was manager of Peachtree Apartments. Irene was employed with the Ashland Wooster Drive In before her retirement. Besides working outside the home, Irene found time to babysit her grandchildren--they were her passion in life. Irene was a member of St. Edward's Church, and Alcoholics Anonymous, which she joined on April 17, 1975. Irene was grateful to AA and co-founder of AA, Dr. Bob, for her sobriety. Her family is proud of her 48 years with AA. She was an inspiration to many recovering alcoholics. Surviving is one son, Thomas Vojtush, Jr. of Lima, OH, one daughter, Roberta (Bryan) Chance of Ashland, and a son-in-law Steven Bemiller of Sarasota, FL. She is also survived by grandchildren Tomy Vojtush, Heather Hall, Jason Vojtush, Michelle Bemiller (Griffin Kelley), Shane (Tiffany) Bemiller, Nathaniel (Danielle) Chance, Danielle (Trevor) Shymske, and Gabrielle Chance, as well as her sister, Patricia (Scott) Fike of Uniontown, PA. Her legacy also includes 13 great grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Her faithful fur companion, Noel, who brought Irene 12 years of love and joy, also survives. Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Michael Kobilack, her husband of 58 years, Thomas Joseph Vojtush (2011), her daughter Debra Bemiller (2019), and three brothers and three sisters. Known for her quick wit, colorful personality, and sense of humor, Irene had many lifelong friends. She did not know a stranger. Her family was everything to her and she fought fiercely for them. Irene's memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. Karen Maxine Briggs passed away peacefully on November 30, 2023, at the age of 72 in St. Joseph. Born on October 3, 1951, in Ashland, Ohio, Karen was the beloved daughter of the late Herman and Hazel (Cypher) Briggs. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dianne Spalo, and is survived by her brother, David Briggs; nieces, Paula (Erik) Lane and Lori Briggs; nephew, David (Cyndi) Briggs II; as well as great nieces & nephews, Matthew Rizzi, Kayleigh Lane, Harrison Lane, Faith Thornburgh, and Jacob Briggs. After graduating from high school, she pursued her passion for beauty and creativity by attending beauty college, a decision that would shape her professional life for over three decades. Karen's career as a hairdresser was marked by her warm personality and the meticulous care she devoted to each of her clients. Kelly M. Callihan, 65Kelly M. Callihan, 65 of Nova passed away Thursday morning, November 9, 2023 in Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born on March 25, 1958 in Bay Village, Ohio the son of James Robert and Maridean (nee Schilling) Callihan. Kelly graduated from Avon Lake High School, Class of 1976. He served a four-year apprenticeship with the IBEW local 129. He married the love of his life, the former Lora Syphers on February 19, 1977. Kelly served as President of Callihan Electric, a company that his father founded in 1988. Kelly continued his legacy as a union business priding themselves on master work and integrity. His work ethic went unmatched; and he was happiest when he was hard at work. Kelly was a proud member of the IBEW Local 129 for 44 years. He was President of the Lake Erie Division of the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association. Kelly was also a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors for many years. When not at work, he was a true family man who loved his children and grandchildren. He loved to entertain and have family gatherings. Kelly did enjoy hunting, watching the Cleveland Indians and riding his Harley Davidson. In his earlier years, he coached all four sons' little league teams. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Lora Callihan of Nova; his mother, Maridean Callihan of Ashland; three sons, Jack (Virginia) Callihan of Nova, Rusty (Crystal) Callihan of Nova, and Toby (Melissa Burwell) Callihan of Nova; seven grandchildren, Haley, Emily, Jaycee, Kail, Case, Kora, and Cavin; and three sisters, Kim (Mike) Gorman of Oberlin, Kerry (Parker) Nelson of Ashland, and Kris (Kevin) Hickey of Norwalk. Kelly is preceded in death by his father, James Robert Callihan; one son, Matthew James Callihan; and a brother, Kip Callihan. Dr. Robert D. (Bob) Miller II OFS, age 57, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, following a recurrence of metastatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family at their home in Beltsville, Maryland. Bob was born on August 21, 1966, and raised in Apple Creek, Ohio. He was an alumnus of Waynedale High School. He received his BA from Kent State University (1988) where he met his wife, Anne-Marie Duffy Miller. They were married in 1990. He received his MA and PhD in Biblical and Near Eastern Studies from the University of Michigan (1991/1998). His career as a Professor of Religious Studies and Scripture brought him to West Virgina University in Morgantown, WV (1988-98), Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD (1999-2008), and Catholic University of America since 2008, where he was promoted to Ordinary Professor of Theology in 2018. Bob also served as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies for the School of Theology from 2017 - 2022. He was additionally a research affiliate of the University of Pretoria Faculty of Theology and Religion, and Life Member of St. John's College, Cambridge. Bob authored eleven scholarly books and numerous research papers and conference proceedings on the history, literature, religion, and archaeology of Ancient Israel in the First Temple Period. His passion was teaching his students, and he was recognized by numerous teaching awards including his most recent honor of the 2023 Teacher of the Year Award from the School of Theology and Religious Studies Students' Association. Bob was also interested in the education of the Old Testament for the public. He is known for his Great Courses series "Understanding the Old Testament. " Bob has appeared in several media settings including National Geographic; "The Ten Plagues of the Bible", The Associated Press "NOT REAL NEWS: A look at what didn't happen this week" and Aleteia "What is the best edition of the Bible for Catholics?". Bob was a former member of the Board of Trustees of the American Schools of Oriental Research and served as Chair of the Board of Control of the New American Bible for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Bob's lifelong passion was music. He and his musical partner, Jonathan Friedman, started singing together in college in 1986. They began performing as the band "Sirocco," with three members, in 1987, playing what Bob liked to call "electronic folk ranging from prog to instrumental new age. " Bob and Jon each wrote music and sang lead, and both played keyboards. They played steadily through college, and intermittently until about 1995. They gathered occasionally since then to practice and play for family and friends. In 2023, Bob and Jon recorded professional studio tracks through the generosity of the "Cancer Can Rock" organization and were able to publish their music on Spotify as Sirocco / Hieroglyphics. In 1986 Bob converted to Catholicism, and in June 1998 he and his wife professed to the Secular Franciscan Order. Bob's deepest devotion was to his family. He is survived by his wife Anne-Marie Duffy Miller, his sons William and partner Margot, Patrick and fiance Susannah Ward, Joseph, and James, his parents Robert D. and Rebecca Miller, and his sister Lisa Miller Lang(JJ). Bob is preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Virgil and Lauretta Wertz. Rhea Mae Prosser passed away peacefully Sunday, November 5, 2023, in her home surrounded by her family at the age of 78. She was born on January 7, 1945, to parents James & Mary (Roberts) Prosser in Ashland, Ohio. Rhea graduated from Loudonville High School with the class of 1963 and continued to live in the Loudonville area. She retired from Mansfield Plumbing Products, where she worked in the Accounts Receivable Department as a clerk. A devout Christian, Rhea was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Loudonville, where she was very active. She served on the committee for the Community Help Mission for many years, sang in the choir, and was a part of the church sewing group, among other things. Rhea also enjoyed playing cards with her friends while she lived at Loudon Bluffs. She is survived by her sister Sandy Smith; sister-in-law Carol Prosser; niece Lisa (Rich) Cowley; nephew Chris Paisley; 2 grand nieces Sarah (Lucas Myers) Cowley and Jessica Cowley; and two fur babies Lucy and Sadie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers John and Tom Prosser; sister and brother-in-law Mary (Fred) Paisley; and numerous aunts and uncles. Carma Jeannine (Herdman) Miller, 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, October 20th. Born June 9, 1933, in Fredericktown, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late John & Mildred (Frazier) Herdman. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Ashland, Ohio, and Crossroads Baptist Church, Indianapolis, IN. Preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Carl Ford Miller, one brother, William (Bill) Herdman. Clarence A. Henry age 82 of Nova, passed away on October 16, 2023. Born on December 9, 1940 in Cando, North Dakota the son of Phillip and Pearl (Thompson) Henry he had been a resident of Ashland, County since 1973. Mr. Henry was an employee of the Ford Motor Company until the time that he retired. On November 3, 1962, Clarence was married to Arlene Allery who preceded him in death in 2005. Surviving are two sons and one daughter and their spouses; Keith (Roxanne) Henry, Craig (Pamela) Henry and Darla (Robert) Henry-Williams all of Ashland. Seven grandchildren and 15 Great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Henry is also survived by four siblings; Noel Davidson, Duane Henry, Sharon Laverdure and Terry Henry all of North Dakota.
