A Life long resident of Maiden, Chris had a love for the Lord and was an avid musician. He played the keyboard and various other instruments in numerous bands. He had a long and successful career as a teacher and coach for 28 years. He was very devoted to his church and the Lord, he was faithful in his Open Windows Bible Study. Some of his favorite things to say were, “Ready to shove off” or “What’s for dessert?”. He loved to collect pens and hats. James David Miller, Jr. 72, of Maiden, a member of Living Word Church, died on January 16, 2024 being cheered on to glory by his family. Born in Catawba County on August 23, 1951, he was preceded in death by his parents, James Miller, Sr. and Bonnie Watts Miller, as well as his granddaughter, Kayla Miller. He is preceded by his grandparents, Lil and Hubert Watts and Nell and Monroe Miller.James served four years in the US Marine Corps spending one year in combat in Vietnam. He walked point, served as a mortar man, provided illumination for night firing, supervised projects and dispensed supplies. He received a purple heart for combat wounds and earned the rank of Sergeant. He also received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Unit Citation, Meritorious Mast twice and Good Conduct Medal.James retired from truck driving for Gaines Motor Lines. He was a hard worker and did a lot for others. He was tireless in providing for his family. James was a handyman- building and fixing almost anything which he enjoyed accomplishing with others. He was comical and liked joking around. Shopping and choosing multiples of the same item because they were on sale was a favorite.James is survived by his wife, Debra Stallings Miller. He is also survived by a brother, Roger Miller and a sister, Deborah Sanders(Chris). Six children survive James: Jamie Holman, Jodie Yoder(Erick), Jonnie Miller, Jonathan Miller(Tasha), Kiersten Miller, and Skyler Miller. Twelve grandchildren survive him: Logan Helms, Mason Lynch, Abbey Yoder, Kaylyn Holman, Kristopher Holman, Payton Miller, Laney Miller, Harper Miller, Cashus Miller, Cassie Aiken,Alex Aiken, and Oakleigh Miller.The receiving of friends will be at Living Word Church in Maiden on Sunday, January 21, 2024 from 1:30-2:45. The funeral will follow at 3 pm. Burial will be at Maiden Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse International Relief, P.O. William “Jack” Schronce, 88, of Maiden passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at his residence.He was born July 4, 1935 in Catawba County to the late Henry Andrew Schronce and Nora Etta Rudisill Schronce. Jack was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Maiden, where he served as Deacon and in other capacities. He was a former member of Maiden Rescue Squad, serving numerous years before retiring in 1987. Jack retired at the age of 86 from the furniture manufacturing industry, working full time until his retirement.
