Charles Christopher "Topher" Whaley, 33, of Nakina, died suddenly on Friday, September 8th, 2023, in the Columbus Regional Medical Center in Whiteville, NC. "Topher" as he was lovingly known, was born on April 23, 1990, in Columbus County. Services will be conducted at a later time. The surviving family includes his father, Christopher Lee Whaley (Lorie Ann) of Nakina; mother, Patricia Dawn Chavis of Whiteville; siblings, John Aaron Hines of Clarendon, Nicole Hines of Whiteville, Rebecca LeeAnn Whaley of Nakina, Christina Waggle (Andy) of Beaverdam; maternal grandparents, Steve Chavis (Vivian) of St. Pauls; one loving niece and eight loving nephews; his best friend, Nathan McDevitt; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Pete was born on December 11, 1945, son of the late James C. Sellers and Maybelle Godwin Sellers. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Bob Sellers, Mike Sellers, and Jim Sellers. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p. m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Beaverdam Original Free Will Baptist Church, with Pastor Buddy Seay officiating; Burial will follow in the Sellers Family Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p. m. on Tuesday evening, at Worthington Funeral Home. Carolyn Louise Hamilton Nance, 83, of Chadbourn, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, at her home with family by her side. Carolyn was born on September 13, 1940, in Columbus County, daughter of the late Marion Hugh Hamilton and Annie Bell Todd Hamilton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Carlie Nance and her brother, Willard Hamilton. Funeral service will be conducted ta 2:00 p. m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Worthington Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Barton and Mr. Carl "Rusty" Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30-1:45, prior to the service, at the funeral home. The surviving family includes two children, James Nance (Patricia) and Vickie Nance, both of Chadbourn; grandchildren, Patsy Orlak (Albert), Paige Nance, Dana Fipps (Nick); great-grandchildren, Harper Turbeville and Jameson Fipps; siblings, Marvin Hamilton (Betty), Waylon Hamilton (Jennie), Calvin Hamilton (Pam), Gary Hamilton (Sabrina), Mary Dyson, Brenda Blackmon, and Wanda Hinson. Joseph Lee Blackmon, Jr. lovingly known as Joey, entered into Heaven on Saturday, October 28, 2023, while in Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center; he was 66 years old. Joey was born on September 19, 1957, son of the late Joseph Lee Blackmon, Sr. and Dolores Louise Linton Blackmon. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Wanda Lee Norris Blackmon. Joey was a faithful member of Chadbourn Church of God; he enjoyed singing praises unto God and he was an avid fisherman. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p. m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Worthington Funeral Home, with Pastor Jonathan Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Soles Cemetery, Tabor City. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 p. m. on Monday evening, at the funeral home.
