Charles Linnie Maxwell age 72 of Woodlawn, Virginia passed away Saturday September 9, 2023 in the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina. Charles was born on November 30, 1950 in Gilbert, West Virginia to Raymond and Elizabeth Gertrude Hash Maxwell. He proudly served his country in the US Army. He is survived by his wife Jacklene Maxwell of Woodlawn, Virginia; sister Rita Tucker of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; brother and sister-in-law Marvin and Daphne Maxwell of Junction City, Kansas; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel. With Pastor Daryl Beamer officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethany Community Cemetery with Military Rites by the Grayson VFW Post 7726. Mr. Charles "Chuck" Anthony Jones, age 58 of Dobson, passed away unexpectedly on December 5. 2023, at his home. Mr. Jones was born on June 12, 1965, in Robeson County, North Carolina to Dolores Branch Jones and the late Charles Wesley Jones, Jr. Chuck was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who devoted his life to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. He helped to mold many young men and women through various programs at church, such youth ministries, scouting programs; and sometimes just a person to listen. Chuck’s devotion to these young people was unmatched and they will carry his memories in their hearts forever. He gave himself to the service of others, whether family, friend, or a stranger. Mr. Jones was the epitome of love, caring, and selflessness who always put others first. Surviving is his daughter and her fiancé, Chasity Jones and Michael Grisafi; four grandchildren, Lukcus Hawks, Cheyenne Hawks, Dakota Hawks, Ty Hawks; his mother, Dolores Branch Donahue; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Angela Jones McHone and husband Michael, Jewel Jones Lasater and husband Robby; two nieces, Ciera Antwine, Jordin Lasater; and four nephews, Travis Antwine, Trevor Antwine, Forest Antwine, Gage Lasater. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in Dobson with Bishop Marcus Draughn officiating. Interment will follow in the James Monroe Hiatt Cemetery in Mount Airy. Mrs. Myrtle "Mae" Shinault Wright, age 84, of Dobson, NC passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at her daughter, Beverly Johnson’s home. She was born in Surry County, on August 21, 1939, to the late Oscar Marvin Shinault, and the late Esther Whitt Shinault. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, a homemaker, a cook who "made the best biscuit". Mae was beloved by many in the community. Everyone that knew her knew what a positive and upbeat person she was. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Franklin Wright; sisters, Pauline O’Neal, Ethel Shinault; brothers, Jay Shinault, Clifton Shinault, Junior Shinault, Benny Shinault. Surviving is her daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Jimmy Pratt, Beverly and Greg Johnson; sons and daughter-in-law, Billy and Laura Wright, George Douglas "Doug" Wright; grandchildren, Bretta and Stephen Priddy, Bridgett and Wes Norman, Garrett Johnson and fiancée, Ciara Pierce, Abigail Johnson, Lee and Amanda Wright, Kevin Wright; great-grandchildren, Logan Priddy, Ella Priddy, Ayden Norman, Caleb Norman, Chloe Wright, Addison Wright, Nathanael Wright, Caleb Wright; brother, Ray Shinault. She was born in Surry County on October 23, 1939, to the late Elmer James and Gladys Ellen Slate Dunbar. Mrs. Hawks retired as Contracting Agent of Mt. Airy License Plate Agency, and a member of Victory Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, David Clayton Hawks; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffery Dale Hawks and Donna, Charles Bradley Hawks and Delinda; grandchildren, Joshua Brandon Hawks and Brittany, Justin Paul Hawks, David Lee Hawks; great grandchildren, Lukcus Hawks, Cheynne Hawks, Dakota Hawks, Ty Hawks, Kali Hawks, Maggie Hawks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stoney Dunbar and Louise, Ray Dunbar and Sandra, Ricky Dunbar and Vicki; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Earlene "Mimi" McCraw Frye Smith, age 87 of Mount Airy passed away early on Sunday morning, November 26, 2023, the same day as her dad did back in 1970, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, while her loving daughter held her hand. Mrs. Smith was born on April 3, 1936, in Surry County to the late Isaac Glenn and Ethel Miranda Sechrist McCraw. Mimi worked in a textile factory until her daughter was born, then she stayed at home to babysit for her and other children, and then once her daughter was grown, she began working for Lowes Foods in the deli department, where she later retired. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, sister, and friend that will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Surviving is her daughter, Nikki Glyn Smith; her pride and joy, granddaughter, Ella Glyn; and special cousins, Carol Jean Young and Tommy as well as Kala Young. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her first husband, Rube "Shorty" Frye; her second husband and father to her daughter, Glen Smith; and a sister and brother-in-law, Gerlteen McCraw Simpson and Tim. A private graveside service will be held at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend David "Buster" Sechrist officiating. He was preceded in death by his parents, by two brothers, Charlie Rose (Audrey) Love, Jr. , Thomas Harley (Martha) Love and infant daughter; Phyllis.
