Charlie, age 81, passed away in Missoula after a brief illness. He was born in Spokane to Frances and Barclay Goodsell. An only child, he was doted upon by his mother and grandmother. He attended Hutton Elementary, Lewis & Clark High School, WSU in Pullman, and served in the Army. He worked for KOP Cabinet Shop for the next 20+ years. Charlie married Mary when he was 46 years old. He was a great storyteller, made lifelong friends, and always had a smile. His hobbies included woodworking and tinkering with cars. Charlie was later diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, but that did not diminish his enjoyment of life or his kind nature. He enjoyed adventures, picnics, and making new friends. He was fun to take care of, always loving. Taking care of Charlie was a great gift to Mary and she will always be grateful. A celebration of life will be held at the Alliance Church in Plains, Montana, on Saturday, September 16 at 12:00 noon.

John Elmer Edwards John Elmer Edwards, 75, of Missoula, passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, November 30th 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer caused by Agent Orange. John was born on August 23, 1948, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula to Milton and Esther Edwards. He grew up in the Bitterroot Valley and graduated from Florence Carlton High School in 1967. While in school, he lettered in Basketball and Football. He was also active in the Student Council, serving as President his Senior year. After High School, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served honorably in the Vietnam War, earning multiple service medals. After his service in the Marine Corps, he went to work for the Montana Power Company in 1970. In 2003 he retired from the power company and started his 2nd career with Ace Hardware, where he worked for another 17 years before retiring. John was an avid golfer, gardener, fisherman and handyman. If it could be fixed, he would find a way to do it. He spent multiple hours in his shop where he prided himself in building things and working on his cars. He loved rebuilding engines. One of the last projects he completed was a total restoration of his MG. John also treasured spending time with his two sons. Whether it was fishing, watching football, hunting, rebuilding cars, or any other activity. He would do anything for his boys, and he made sure they knew he could be counted on no matter what. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife Chrissy. It did not matter what they were doing, as long as they were together, he was happy. He was a delightful mixture of toughness and gentleness. One of their favorite phrases was, "it’s not how many breaths you take, but how many moments take your breath away. " Survivors include his wife, Chrissy, Missoula; two sons and their families, Jeff, Coeur d’ Alene, and John, Thompson Falls; his mother Esther, Florence; two brothers and their families, Denny, Florence and Terry, Florence, along with 4 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. There will be a family service on Friday December 8th, followed by a celebration of his life gathering in the spring of 2024.Show more

Carolyn "June" Spillers, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on December 6, 2023. June passed away peacefully, surrounded by her four daughters. June was born on February 19, 1936 in Russellville, Arkansas to Elmer Parnell and Doyle Estelle Bartlett. On July 12, 1954 June married Charles Spillers in Russellville. Shortly after, they moved to the Pacific NW where they raised their daughters. June is a long-time resident of Missoula, moving there in 1973 from Boise, Idaho. She worked for Mountain Bell as an operator for over 30 years, retiring in 1991. Her time was filled with supporting her growing family and blessing them with her generous hospitality. June loved studying the Bible – whether it was by listening to the Grace to You broadcast, or attending Bible Study Fellowship. She spoke often of her love for God and the desire she had that everyone she knew would know Him. "For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself. " (Job 19:25-27a) June was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Parnell and Doyle Estelle Parnell, infant daughter, Sherri Lynn Spillers, and her former husband, Charles Spillers. She is survived by her sisters: Betty Harris and Susan Gardiner; four daughters and their spouses: Kim Kallis and Jeff Smith, Sue and George Baché, Stephanie and Rico Salvino, and Gretchen and Dennis Nelson; eleven grandchildren: Carrie Kerzman, Eric Kallis, Brittany McKenzie, Chanelle Julian, Kirstie Wood, Josh Salvino, Moriah Coons, Shekinah Nelson, Sarah Bacon, Malachi Nelson, and Jeremiah Nelson; twelve great-grandchildren: Zachary Kerzman, Cassidy Kerzman, Kayla Kallis, Oscar Kallis, Brayden Julian, Aaron McKenzie, Bennett McKenzie, Blakely Salvino, Kayce Bacon, Easton Wood, Baby Salvino (due 2/14/24), and Baby Bacon (due 2/25/24). A graveside service will be held at Missoula City Cemetery on Saturday, December 9th at 11am. A Celebration of Life for the family will follow. Nancy Jane Schnering Davenport, 75, passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Hospital, of natural causes with her daughter Spider McKnight by her side. She was born on December 1, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois - the youngest of five children - to Robert and Dorothy. She spent her early years living in the Chicago area, where she began to experience and enjoy the arts through numerous school field trips. She and her family moved to Sarasota, Florida, where Nancy attended junior and senior high schools. She became an accomplished water skier, winning awards for National Overall Champion in 1962 and National Tricks Champion in 1963. She also modeled for Seventeen magazine, and was a nationally syndicated water-skiing columnist. She continued recreational water-skiing for a big portion of her life, and always enjoyed time at the beach and on the water. In the 1960s and ‘70s, Nancy married, built a family, and earned a nursing degree. When her children were older, she worked as a night nurse in critical care. After the youngest, Tai, graduated from high school, Nancy, her husband Bill, and Tai, moved to Arizona, where she worked as a nurse on the Navajo Indian Reservation. Her husband Bill was later diagnosed with cancer, necessitating a move to Houston, Texas, for medical treatment. Nancy continued her work as a nurse at St. Luke’s hospital there until Bill died in 1995, when she returned to Florida. Several years later, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and retired from nursing. Eventually, her poor health necessitated a move to Missoula, in 2002, to be closer to her daughter. In 2018, Nancy moved to the Village, for assistance with medical conditions including her MS. She developed an amazing social network there and enjoyed many of the activities, especially the coloring group, crafts, painting, and bingo. She was usually the first person to show up for events each morning, and enjoyed the friendships she made. Her family is very grateful to the employees and residents there who made Nancy’s life easier and happier. They are also grateful for the care Nancy received at St. Patrick’s Hospital. Throughout her life, Nancy enjoyed the loving companionship of many dogs and cats. Charles "Chuck" Floyd Pope, born to William and Elizabeth Pope in Missoula, Montana on January 14, 1943, passed away, surrounded by family, on November 28, 2023. Chuck was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 34 years, Catherine Pope, with whom he had four children Jerry Pope, Sheri Boone, Susan Cristler, and Gary Pope. After the passing of Catherine, Chuck found love again and spent the last 19 years with his current wife, Gail Pope. They blended their families, creating an extended family thatincluded Gail's children, Tawna Aubachon and Holly (Michael) King. It also included eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. His family was a source of immense pride and joy for Chuck. Chuck is survived by his wife Gail Pope, brother William (Genie) Pope, Jr, son Jerry (Heidi) Pope, daughter Sheri (Bruce) Boone, daughter Susan (Tony) Cristler, son Gary (Marci) Pope, brother-in-law James (Nancy) Hardee, sister-in-law Judy Hardee,brother-in-law Bruce (Ingrid) Warren, sister-in-law Corrine (Craig) Burgi, mother-in-law Gloria Warren. Throughout his life, Chuck was an active and dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, taking on various leadership roles that reflected his commitment to faith and community. He found fulfillment in service and connection with others, helping all who needed assistance, and delivering "Meals on Wheels" for over 15 years. Chuck's true passion, however, lay in anything with an engine. Whether it was steam, electric, single-piston, or multi-piston, Chuck reveled in the intricate workings of machinery. His impressive collection of "Chugger" hit-and-miss engines, hot rods, motorcycles, and antique cars showcased his lifelong love affair with all things mechanical. For over 40 years, Chuck lived his passion as a mechanic for Heidrick Farms. He also shared his passion with others as a docent at the Hayes Truck Museum describing many of the vehicles he had restored. The weekends spent with the Yolo Frontloaders at black powder rendezvous’ were some of his fondest. The camaraderie and friendships during these gatherings remained close to Chuck's heart until the end. His involvement in the Model T club was another source of joy for Chuck. Here, he not only shared his vast knowledge but also relished the opportunity to learn from others who shared his passion. Kathy L Stevenson passed away on November 19th, 2023, with her family lovingly by her side. Kathy was born on May 14th, 1960, to Edwin "Ed" and Roberta "Bobbie" Brester in Missoula, Montana. She was the fourth of six children born to Ed and Bobbie. Many of Kathy’s summers were spent at Flathead Lake with her family. She graduated from Sentinel High in 1978. Kathy married Tim Stevenson and they had three daughters, Lynze, Jennifer and Heidi. They raised their young family in Missoula until March of 1989, when they moved to central Nevada to work for a Gold Mine. During their time in Round Mountain, Kathy had a few different jobs but was most proud of her time operating the large sheepsfoot roller. In 1998, they moved back to Montana. Kathy then spent many years working at Direct TV before her medical retirement. In October of 2000 her first grandchild was born, and this is when she found her favorite role of being a Nana. For the last 23 years Kathy spent special time with her eight grandchildren and they each have countless memories with her. She loved to travel with them, do crafts, bake, play Legos, jump on the trampoline, and play any silly game they could think of. Kathy will be remembered for her fun spirit and her enormous heart, which she shared with her family and friends. Her love for crafting over the years allowed her to gift beautiful cross stitch masterpieces, and crocheted blankets and quilts to her family. As her illness progressed, she still continued to crochet small items to leave for other cancer patients as well as to donate to Jennifer’s elementary class. The family would like to give a special thanks to Angel Flight who gave her the gift of wings to and from treatment as well as the Benefits Peace Hospice House who offered the utmost compassion and care to Kathy and her family. Kathy is survived by her daughters, Lynze (Clint), Jennifer (Jude), and Heidi (Justin); grandchildren, Noah, Jacob (Alex), Ethan, Mason, Abraham, Liam, Florence and Olivia; siblings, Lonnie (Charlie), Eddy (Kim), Robert, Cheryl (Wayne), Cindy (Tod); numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddy and Bobbie; and niece, Kristine. A celebration of her life will be December 9, 2023, at 1:00 p. m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 16044 Frenchtown Frontage Rd, Frenchtown, Montana. Her memory will be carried on the wings of butterflies (which she so loved) and in the hearts of those lucky enough to know her. She will be forever missed.Show more
