Elizabeth Whaley

Elizabeth Whaley

Age - 86

December 7, 2023

Elizabeth Key Whaley passed away in the presence of her loving husband, children, their spouses and grandchildren, December 2, 2023. The daughter of Blanche Elizabeth Eargle and William Bartlett Key, Jr. , she was born in Chester, SC and grew up in Rock Hill, SC. She attended Brenau University in Gainesville, GA and joined Alpha Chi Omega. She later transferred to Winthrop College in Rock Hill. Shortly after graduating, she moved to Charleston where she taught 2nd grade. Walking through the flooded streets of Charleston in the aftermath of Hurricane Gracie, Betsy and Preston Whaley crossed paths. Wet as it was, sparks ignited a 63-years long romance. Their early years were hectic yet rewarding as the new couple raised four children. During part of that time, while Preston was earning his medical degree and specialty, Betsy worked at the Trident Technical College teaching literacy to adults, mostly parolees and prisoners. The job was meaningful to her because it aligned with her sense of fairness and social awareness. After medical training, the family settled in a home on Manatee River in Bradenton. Betsy loved the house and the natural beauty around it. Countless people enjoyed her elegant, sophisticated yet warm and inviting hospitality. The house became home to multiple strays, animal and human. Betsy hosted countless parties, holiday dinners, weddings and graduations. Her house was a destination and a reflection of her caring, creative and generous personality. Betsy had exquisite style in the way she lived but also in the way she dressed. Throughout her life, even the final weeks, when she walked in the room, she stopped the show. It was just her way. She shared her love of fashion with friends, kids and their wives. The generosity overflowed. She would take you shopping and buy you something suitably vogue. Not long after moving to Bradenton with four children - Preston, Jr. , William, Christopher and Key - Shayne Mora joined the family. He wasn't born a Whaley, but to this day he is a beloved son and brother. Betsy cooked delectable meals, which she shared with countless relatives, friends and strangers. She remains locally famous for several dishes, especially her macaroni and cheese. When the children reached college age, she and Preston were able to read more and travel widely. Betsy was a wide-ranging, voluminous reader. In addition to their annual snow skiing vacations to places far & wide, they travelled frequently and adventurously to Europe, China, South America, Canada, the Caribbean and Africa. The Orient Express and the Safari in Africa were their favorite trips. Betsy was a fun and adventurous traveling companion. She made an impression most everywhere they went. They told wondrous stories. When not traveling, they spent many summers at their beautiful home in Highlands, NC, where they took their hospitality with them. Betsy and Preston loved soul music. From Aretha Franklin to Marvin Gaye, artists like these comprised the Whaley family's soundtrack. When the music was good, Betsy and Preston were dancing. Preston was the rhythm section, and she was the solo. They had impeccable chemistry and style and could shag better than most of us have ever seen. Betsy made time for people. She made you feel comfortable and engendered trust. She was open minded. She authentically and enthusiastically showed up to support anyone she cared about, and she cared about a lot of people. Betsy taught by example and word. People were drawn to her. Like so many mothers, she sacrificed greatly for her kids. She gave them the best she had, and she is so appreciated for it. She was an exciting and caring partner to her husband. She expressed her life in a magically loving and lovely way. We miss and love her, dearly. Betsy Whaley is survived by her husband, children (named above), daughters in law, Brenda Whaley, Carrie Price and Rosemary Mora; son in law, Kevin Logan; numerous grandchildren, Scarlett Whaley, Isabella Whaley, Noah Rosser, Savannah, Scout and Liam Mora, Otis Whaley, Imogene Whaley and by her brother, William B. Key, III. There will be a Visitation 5-7 PM, Monday, December 11, 2023, at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd St. W, Bradenton, FL 34209. Adeline D'Ambrosio

Adeline D'Ambrosio

Age - 96

December 7, 2023

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Adeline "Addie" D'Ambrosio announce that she passed away on November 9, 2023, at the age of 96. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Addie was the daughter of Angelina Padavano and Joseph Angelo. She was one of 13 children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carmine D'Ambrosio, and most recently her last remaining and closest sister, Jean McGillon, who passed just four days before her. She is survived by her loving daughter, Marilyn Snow Ingold (John); her son, Joseph Snow; her grandchildren, Dennis Blair of South Carolina, Michele Stancil (Chad) of Bradenton, and Nicole Busch (Jon) of Indiana, as well as her beloved great grandchildren, Danielle Blair, and Justin and Jared Stancil. Addie moved to Florida from Ozone Park, New York, 30 years ago after retiring from the US Postal Office as a finance supervisor. She was a firecracker. She will be most remembered for her fierce love of family and her unending generosity. She never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off her back. Followed by a "that's it I'm done-no more" in her strong Brooklyn accent, until the next time she was giving away the shirt off her back. She believed that you should always help someone if you had the means and opportunity to do so. She made the best sauce and meatballs and roasted peppers and there was always a seat at her table for anyone who wanted one. Her move to Florida was to be near her daughter who she lovingly called "Mar" and her grandchildren. She loved her family more than anything in the world and instilled in them an intense work ethic and a family first attitude. Most of all she has left them with incredible memories of a 4'11" fireball with a great sense of humor and an occasional Italian swear. Time together always held noise, laughter, and many "God Love Ya's" from her which was only one of her many signature phrases. Other favorites were "Oh well, what are ya gonna do", "What nerve!", "Holy Karamba", "What the hell is going on here?", "I'll give you one of these", and her favorite as an avid dog lover "Did you know dog spelled backwards is GOD". Whether it was Skip Bo tournaments in which she showed no mercy or playing corn hole with her great grandchildren well into her 90's, Addie was a kid at heart. Maybe it's what blessed us with her for as long as we had her. If you knew her, you had to have been blessed as well to have felt her loving heart, tasted her amazing food, or experienced a skit or song from her and most definitely shared a glass of red wine with a "Salud". A Celebration of Life will be held 2-4 PM, Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Perico Bay Club Clubhouse 11701 Manatee Avenue W, Bradenton, FL 34209. Anyone who would like to pay respects and lovingly remember Addie, is welcome to join us for one last "Salud" to her. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to K9s for Warriors in Addie's name at https://donate. k9sforwarriors. org.Show more
