Pat Mauney Allen Duncan, 81, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Care Partners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville. Mrs. Duncan was born in Canton, NC to the late William Jennings Brian Mauney and Dorothy Mae Gentry Mauney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Duncan. Pat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was a member of Weaverville First United Methodist Church. Pat loved helping people and had been a nurse for over 50 years. Even after her third retirement she volunteered with Mission Hospital and received an award from the American Heart Association for her service. She was an incredible artist, extremely organized and loved gardening. Most of all she loved her family dearly especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pat is survived by her four children; Cheryl Allen of Charleston, SC, Dana Hunter (Terry) of Arden, Andrea Richardson (Jeff) of Keswick, VA and Brad Allen (Brandi Matthews) of Fines Creek; three step-sons, Clark Duncan (Sumner) of Asheville, Lewis Duncan (Jenny) of Washington, DC and Daniel Duncan (Ann) of Maryland; one sister, Jeannette Brown; nine grandchildren, Josh Lingerfelt (Cortnee), Carolina Nick (Nick), Justin Whittemore (Amber), Lauren Kilby (Kevin), Olivia Hedrick (Garrett), Caroline Richardson, Jake Richardson, Briana Warren (Will) and Brooklyn Sanders (Garrett); twelve great grandchildren, Dilynn, Avery, Tinley, Libby, Emry, Lennox, Willow, Madeline, Miller, Duke and Reid and two nephews, Mike Brown and Phil Brown. The family would also like to extend their deep appreciation to Pat’s Caregiver, Sonia Jones. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian at 2:00 pm with Pastor Kelvin Moseley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. A private burial with the family will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Memory Care of Asheville or to the Black Mountain Home for Children, Youth and Families.

Mary Pearl Harris, 90, of Asheville, NC, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Mary is survived by her son, Michael Banks; her sister, Shirley Bowles; and her grandsons, Robert and Michael Banks, II. Mary was born on July 1, 1933, in Yancey Co., NC, and spent her life taking care of the sick and elderly. She took care of her father as a child, as well as two husbands later in life. She gave her time, care, and love to those in need. To those who knew her, she will be sorely missed and always loved. The graveside service for Mrs. Harris will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Green Hills Cemetery. The Rev. Davis Plemmons will officiate. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

David Jason Elliott

David Jason Elliott (44) of Alexander, NC died Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Mission Hospital in Asheville of a heart attack. He is survived by his parents Eddie and Marcia Elliott, also of Alexander. In addition, he is survived by two brothers, Doug (Becky) of Arden and Daniel (Lori) of Raleigh; three nephews, Patrick, James, and Anthony; two nieces, Patricia and Grace; and two special friends, Roberta Gaulding and Matthew Robinson. After graduation from Erwin High School, David enlisted in the U.S. Marines, stationed primarily in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, where he served on training missions in several Asian countries, including his favorite Australia. He started college classes after leaving the Marines, but enlisted in the U.S. Army following the 9-11 terrorist attack. He trained as a Green Beret, doing two tours in Afghanistan. After leaving the Army, he continued his college work, graduating from East Tennessee State with a major in mathematics. Per David’s request, his body will be cremated and his ashes scattered on the family farm. Services have been provided by Asheville Mortuary. Timothy Wayne Wilson, 63, of Asheville, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the CarePartners Solace Center. Born November 3, 1960 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Timothy was a son of the late Frances Tomb Wilson, Jr. and Doris Collins Wilson. He returned to Asheville, his mother’s hometown, at age 16. The best thing about Tim is that he had the ability to make everyone feel like he was their best friend. He is survived by his wife, Rachel Pickels Wilson; son, David Wilson; daughter, Jennifer Wilson; grandchildren, Cameron, Matthew and Christopher; brother, Frances Wilson (Tripp) and his twin brother, Tom Wilson. McFarlin “Mack” McGinnis, age 74, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. Mack was born on December 19, 1949 in Buncombe County, NC to the late Farlin Hinkle McGinnis and Edna Christine Melton McGinnis. He attended the Rock Church in Black Mountain, NC and the Lincs Day Program in Swannanoa, NC. Mack loved his family dearly and was always talking about each of them individually. He was a thoughtful, loving man with a wonderful smile and a heart of gold. He loved to organize things and enjoyed being neat and tidy. He prided himself on being well-groomed, well-dressed and ready for the day’s weather. When he put his sunglasses on, his family and friends nicknamed him “Cool Cat”! Mack also enjoyed looking at picture books and magazines. He had a happy and friendly personality and loved to greet the folks at the Lincs Day Program as they came in. Going to eat at McDonald’s made his day special. He loved going there and having a cheeseburger and sweet tea. It was his absolute favorite meal. Mack is going to be missed so much by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, Mack was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Dalton; and two brothers, Luther and William “Bill” McGinnis. Those left behind to cherish his sweet memory are his sister, Elizabeth Swann of Black Mountain; two brothers, Roy McGinnis and his wife Judy of St. Marys, OH and Glenn McGinnis of Sequatchie, TN; four nieces, Jania Wilson, Teresa Sisk, Tammy Gilbert, and Tina Stine; six nephews, Chris Dalton, James McGinnis, Michael McGinnis, Tim McGinnis, David McGinnis, and Steve McGinnis; special caregiver, whom he especially loved and called “Mom”, Kim Coates and her husband, Cline and their children, Maddie and Josh, of Black Mountain; and a very special friend at the Lincs Day Program, Theresa. Macks family would like to say a heartfelt “thank you” to all of you who loved and helped Mack during his life. He lived a happy life because of all of you loving and caring for him. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Homer’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, 202 Chapel Rd., Black Mountain, NC, 28711, conducted by Pastor Danny Sprinkle. Asheville – David Carroll Price, 59, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at his home while surrounded by family.     A native of Staunton, VA, he resided in Buncombe County most of his life. He was a son of the late Carroll Price and Lou Jean Singleton Cole. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Billy Williams.     Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Jennifer Kelsey Price; children: Ronnie Lee, Joshua David Jones, Angela Grooms (Eric), and Tabitha Jiggetts; step-children: Katherine and Richie Crigger, and Jessica Grant; 6 grandchildren; siblings: Johnny Scott and David Felkel, Steven Price and Tabetha Hampton, and Kristie Coffey and Ron; step-father, Sam Cole; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.     A celebration of Davids life will be held from 2 till 4 PM Wednesday, February 28, 2024, in the event room at Anders-Rice Funeral Home. Born in Transylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Evie Mae (Hubbard) Cison. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Porter, and two brothers, A.C. and Melvin Cison. Edith was an accomplished musician; she loved to sing and play guitar and especially enjoyed bluegrass, country, and gospel music. Services will be private. Rev. Douglas James Boyce, 81, of Newland, NC passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Care Partners Solace Center in Asheville, NC. Born August 19, 1942 in Atlantic City, NJ, he was a son of the late William and Anne Marie Boyce. He received a diploma in Biblical Studies from Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, NY and retired from Cornell University. For many years he was a member of Brooktondale Baptist and was honored to in many different positions ranging from pastor, deacon, or anywhere needed. He was also a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Linville, NC. Of his many enjoyments in life reading, preaching, and sharing the Gospel were among his favorites. Surviving are his children, David Boyce and his spouse, Carmelita, of Valrico, FL, Jonathan Boyce and his spouse, Mia, of Mills River, NC, Rebecca Corriveau and her spouse, Ted, of Shelby, NC, and Rachel Flohr and her spouse, Frank, of Monte Vista, CO; brother, William “Bill” Boyce of Rocky Mount, VA; six grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. The family would love to express their overwhelming gratitude to Jonathan and Mia for their exceptional loving care as they escorted our dad to Heaven’s Gates. Also, to Pastor Brad Calhoun and his church family for all of their help. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 2 PM at Words of Life Tabernacle in Arden, NC with Carl Bishop, Pastor Brad Calhoun, and Pastor Barry Goodman officiating.
