"William A. Bennett, 84, passed away on November 26, 2023. He was born on January 19, 1939, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late William A. Bennett Senior and Dorothy S. Bennett. Bill, as he was affectionately known, had a passion for Christian education and spent many years working in this field. He graduated from Columbia Bible College, Taylor University, and William \u0026amp; Mary. Bill\u0027s career included being a Bible and History Teacher, as well as serving as headmaster/principal of several schools, including West End Christian School in Hopewell. Additionally, he worked in the guidance department at John Tyler community College for 37 years. Bill\u0027s love for music was one of his greatest joys. He found solace and happiness in immersing himself in beautiful music across various genres. He is survived by his loving spouse, Mary (Toni) Long Bennett; and his children, Stephen Bennett (Natalie), Susan Grant (Randy), Christopher Bennett (Veronica), and Joy Bennett; and his brothers, Dennis Bennett (Cindy) and Roy Bennett (Dottie). Bill is also survived by his grandchildren, Emma Fall, Margaret Fall, Charlotte Fall, Sonya Blankenship (Hunter), Christopher Bennett, Erica Derr (Paul), Olivia Shaw (Mike), Victoria Natic (Zach), Daniel Bennett (Cassidy), Natasha Bennett, Amanda Bennett, Josiah Bennett, Tabatha Jones (Nelson), and Rebecka Bennett; as well as ten great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and brothers, Robert and Ronald Bennett. A celebration of life will be held at Colonial Heights Baptist Church, at noon, on Thursday, January 11, 2024. ObituaryIn God's most infinite and awesome wisdom, in the wee hours of the morning on November 14th, 2023, The Lord whispered to his son; Minuet (Pop) Lee, arise son and come home; Minuet did just that!We the "Lee Family" Brokenhearted, though full of praise, wish to announce the untimely passing of our loved one SFC (P) (RET) Minuet Lee. Pop Lee was truly a "Gentle Giant" among many. He had a heart of gold and he never met a stranger. He was one who literally gave the shirt off his own back or the last dime in his pocket if needed. Pop Lee wore a myriad of hats including that of Son, Husband, Father, Father-In-Law, Brother, Uncle, Friend, and Mentor. But one of his favorite titles was "Grandpa"!Born in Talladega, Alabama on February 2, 1940, to Mary and Clarence Lee, Minuet was the 11th child among 12. He was schooled in the Alabama school system until his decision to join the military. Minuet enjoyed a long and illustrious military career until his retirement in 1985. Minuet served proudly and productively in the U. S. Army with duties here and abroad and was a recipient of numerous awards and accolades in Food Service. After his retirement from the Army with 21 years of service, SFC Lee moved his family here to Petersburg, Virginia in 1989. It was here that the Lees became members of the Crusade for Christ, COGIC where they have remained. Pastors are Benjamin and Mamie Shaw and the church has since been renamed Truth and Deliverance Ministries. Minuet loved the Lord with his whole heart, and those close enough to him knew his favorite song was "Something About The Name Jesus". He loved preparing meals and barbecuing. He maintained his yard meticulously and watched Western and Sci-Fi channels. SFC Minuet Lee was preceded in death by his son SSG Minuet Vonkay Lee, Mother, Mary Threatt, Father, Clarence Lee, Brothers, L. M. , AD and John Paul Posey, Cleofus, Clarence and Manuel Lee, Sisters, Eddie Meas Rutledge, Quintel Brisker, Rosa and Rebecca Lee and Mary Horton. Minuet leaves to cherish his memory, his loving family: Wife Thelma T. Lee, daughters Gwenda J. Council (Terrence), La-Deva M. Love (Earlon), Son, CW4 Alfonso D. Wooden (Paeton). Grandchildren: Elita N. Thomas, Saicora T. Scott (Dominique), Amari Wooden, Alfonso Wooden III, Minuet Vonce Lee, Kayla Lee, Kiara Lee, Quintel Lee, Vahn-ye Lee, Tyler Lee, Laykeia Clanton, Symone Love, CW2 Khasey Robinson (Wade). Minuet also has 2 beautiful great-grandchildren: Somi Lee and Jahmir Lee. He also leaves his Sisters-in-law: Mary Lee, Estelle Lee, and Clara Lee all of Detroit MI, a host of nieces and nephews, and special friends: Mark Fed, Kevin Hargrove, Larry Riggans, Greg McDoe, and W. H. Hill. Long and faithful friend Aunt Shirley Moore. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 2 p. m. at the Petersburg Chapel of the Joseph M. Johnson and Son Funeral Home. "William \u0026quot;Bill\u0026quot; Frederick Hexamer, 68, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Hexamer and Elsie Patterson; his brothers, Jimmy Gilland and Mike Gilland; and his sister, Londa Krepps. Bill was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Dinwiddie and also owned and operated the Antique Junction, an antique store in Disputanta for many years. He would also sell vegetables out of a vegetable stand that he operated on the side of his antique shop, and he was very successful in doing so. Bill was proud to own 1964 white Chevy panel truck, which he drove to truck pulls and mud bogs throughout the state and sold Dixie outfitter apparel out of. In his spare time, he enjoyed metal detecting, fishing, and sitting outside on his porch. Bill also loved to ride his motorcycle. His family was important to him, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Bill is survived by his son, Buddy Hexamer (Kristina); grandchildren, McKenzie (James) and Jaemie; great-grandchild, Bellamy; brothers, Louis Pate, Randy Gilland, and Darryl Gilland; and his aunt, Margie, who helped to raise him. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Bonnie, Janine, and Laura for their help in caring for Bill. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 3:00 PM, at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J. T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. On Thursday, November 23, 2023 our beloved, Marva A. Hobbs was called home to be with her father our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Marva was born on June 22, 1938 in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Algie (B. Q. ) and Thelma Davis. She was loved and raised by her aunt, the late Catherine Butcher (Meow). Marva was proceeded in death by her siblings, Delores Davis and Algie Davis Jr: cousins raised as siblings, James Davis (Skin), Eddie Barber and Bernice Hill (Meme); Kathy Taylor (niece) and Troy Taylor (nephew). Marva had many names that she was affectionally known by, Marvelous Marva, Phil, and Lil Gal given by her grandfather, Haley Davis. She was a loving, high-spirit, fashionable, and God-fearing woman who loved her family. We were blessed to have her for 85 years. Her charisma and smile would light the room whenever she entered. There can only be one "Marvelous Marva". She is a 1955 class graduate of Peabody High School and retired from Allied Chemical after 34 years. After retirement she worked at Sam's Club and as a care giver to many. Marvelous Marva was a loving and caring person. She was a devoted member of Emmanuel Worship Center and served as a dancer, choir member, and on the praise team. Marva leaves to cherish her everlasting memories: one daughter, Terri Hobbs Williamson, one sister, Bertina Taylor, 5 grandchildren: Jovan Hobbs (Jamece), Jay "Bunny" Johnson, Jasmine Smith, Kenya Grammer, and Kennedy Grammer; 3 great-grandchildren, Jada Morgan, Jovante Hobbs, and Jayden Hobbs; 5 nieces: Sherri Taylor, Kim Branch (Joel), Robin Coleman, Shawn Taylor, and Desiree Battle (Michael). 2 nephews, Pompie Taylor Jr. and Mark Taylor; a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews, 1 God daughter, Wanda Howard; son in love, Kenneth Grammer, sisters in love, Betty Walker (Tim) and Cheryl Taylor (Jerome); Devoted friends, family and Emmanuel Worship Center family. The family would like to thank the staff of Bon Secours, Encompass Rehab, and Dinwiddie Rehab for all the love and care shown to our love one.
