Freda Jo Beltran, 70, of Oregon, Ohio, was called home to be with The Lord on Thursday, February 1st, 2024.She was born in Iager, West Virginia, on January 28th, 1954 to Garnett and Willa Faye (Cooper) Roberts. Freda was a 1972 graduate of Morrison R. Waite High School in Toledo, Ohio. After high school Freda was employed at Crown Cork and Seal until 2001 when the company was no longer in business. She was also a member of the UFCW Local 911 Union. She then pursued and received her Associates Degree in Hospitality Management and started an internship with Holiday Inn French Quarter in Perrysburg, Ohio; where she then became employed until 2005. Being the outgoing and people person she was, she then became a successful saleswoman at Matthews Ford in Oregon, Ohio until her retirement. Freda loved to travel and see new places and also made a friend where ever she went. In 2015 Freda moved to Bradenton, Florida until 2019, where she enjoyed retirement and spending time with her daughter, Cindy, and grandkids. She became a member of Harbor Community Church of Bradenton, Florida. Freda then moved back to Bryan, Ohio to be with her son, Clayt, and his family in 2019, where she lived out the rest of her days. Freda loved to dance, listen to music (especially Motown), spend time with her grandkids and cook some of the best fried chicken you've ever had. Being around Freda felt like home and like you have known her forever, she had a huge heart and had made many friends over the years. She had a great group of friends from high school that stayed close until her final days.Surviving her is her brother, Robin (Debbie) Scott Roberts; children, Cindy Beltran Underwood, Clayt (Sandy) Beltran, grandchildren, Dylan, Haley, Alec and Abigal Underwood, Cooper, Colby, Huckly, and Henry Beltran, Brayden and Parker Epling; and niece and nephew Taylor Marie Roberts and Joshua Cooper Roberts. Freda was preceded in death by her parents, Garnett and Willa Faye Roberts.The family will receive friends at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Marcia Kay Schmucker 78 years of Bryan, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in the Emergency Room at Parkview Hospital, Bryan. Marcia was born April 25, 1945, in Bryan, Ohio, the daughter of the late Harold and Carmen (Rollins) Brenner. She was a 1963 graduate of Bryan High School. Marcia married Earles J. Schmucker on June 12, 1965, in Bryan, Ohio, and he survives. Marcia worked for Murray Lash and Friedo Accounting Firm, Murphy’s Five and Dime Store, packaging produce at Schmucker’s Storage and she also worked in the gift shop at Sauder Village. She most recently attended Lick Creek Church of the Brethren, Bryan and was a former lifelong member of Pine Grove Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was active in the Kitchen Committee. Marcia enjoyed spending time at Coldwater Lake, and all that the lake offers. She also enjoyed making ceramics and making afghans. She most treasured spending time with her family and friends. Surviving is her loving husband of 58 years, Earles of Bryan; two sons, Tim (Vicki) Schmucker of Michigan Center, Michigan, and Todd (Stephanie) Schmucker of Archbold, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jordan (Amanda) Schmucker, Jonah (Hannah) Schmucker, and Natalie Schmucker; two great grandchildren, Selah, and Eleanor Schmucker. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Marlene Fox. Visitation for Marcia Kay Schmucker will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. in Lick Creek Church of the Brethren, 1500 Center Street, Bryan, where Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, with Pastor Bill Holsopple officiating. He was born April 23, 1937 in Grand Rapids the son of James and Hattie (Visser) Heeres.Funeral services will be held Monday, January 29th at 6 p.m. at the Antrim Church of Christ with the family receiving friends from 5:30 p.m. until the time of service. Ramona Jayne Steffel, age 72, of Bryan, passed away on January 15, 2024 at the Parkview Bryan Hospital. She spent her life as a teacher. Jayne was born on February 20, 1951, in Adrian, Michigan, to Wilford and Doris (Dunbar) Ingall. On August 7, 1976, Jayne married the love of her life, James "Jim" Steffel, and he survives. Jayne obtained her Master's of Early Childhood Education Degree from Sienna Heights University. Jayne touched the lives of many children through her many outreach programs in which she belonged. She was a 4-H Advisor for 50 years, a Sunday School teacher at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Bryan for over 20 years, a Girl Scout advisor for 16 years, and was an advisor for Buckeye Girl State for 20 years. She was an avid postcard collector and loved cardinals. Surviving Jayne is her husband, Jim; daughter, Jody (Billy) Garris of Holgate; daughter, Joanna Steffel of Bryan; grandchildren, Victoria Long and Alexia Long; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte Long, Braedyn Roddy, and Autumn May. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Annette Gleason and Margie Ingall. Visitation for Jayne will take place on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the Grisier Funeral Home in Stryker from 1pm to 6pm. A funeral mass will take place on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan, at 11am, with Rev. Andrew Wellman officiating. Mary Lou Michael, 91 of Montpelier, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan. She was born on May 1, 1932 in Montpelier to Clarence and Lulu (Woolf) Fisher. Mary graduated from Montpelier High School in 1950. On July 30, 1950 she married Val Dean Michael and he preceded her in passing on December 2, 2021. Mary was the director of See and Do in Montpelier alongside her husband, Val for 17 years. Together they also operated a general store on the corner of South Platt and Jefferson Street in Montpelier. She also worked for a short time at the A&P and the Kroger in Montpelier. Mary was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Montpelier. Mary is survived by her children, Cindy (Ric) Clark and Ric (Kelly) Michael both of Montpelier; five grandchildren, Ryan (Corrie) Zimmerman, Toby (Elicia) Zimmerman, Erin (Dan) McGee, Sean (Tyler) Michael and Kaitlin (Devin) Harter; and 12 great grandchildren; sister Willadene Moore of Montpelier, Clarence (Helen) Fisher, Jr. of Bryan and Tom (Barb) Fisher of Montpelier. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Val Dean Michael, brother Warren Fisher and sister Margaret Welling. Visitation for Mary will be held on Friday, January 19th from 11:00-1:00 pm at the Thompson Funeral Home on Main Street in Montpelier. Owen J. Miller, 93 years of Bryan, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Hillside Country Living, with his family at his bedside. Owen was born January 14, 1930, in Mount Hope, Holmes County, Ohio, the son of the late Jonas E. and Elizabeth (Swartzentruber) Miller. Owen married Shirley A. Gump on June 18, 1955, in Hicksville, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on July 25, 2006. Owen was a carpenter, working at Harlan Cabinets, Delagrange Builders and Yoder Construction. He was a supervisor at L.E. Smith. He spent the last 15 years of his career as a supervisor at Bryan City Schools where he was the boiler operator, retiring in 1996. Owen also started M & W Countertops. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Bryan. Owen loved to do woodworking. He built a rolltop desk for each of his boys and a beautiful hutch for Kathy. He also repaired clocks, and chairs. Surviving are his three children, Keith (Kristi) Miller of Tomahawk, Wisconsin, Ken (Shelly) Miller of Hamilton, Indiana, and Kathy (Brian) Davis of Bryan; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Wellert of Biscayne Park, Florida., and Martha DalPra of Wooster, Ohio.; one brother, Monroe Miller of Goodville, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; three sister, Ella Brown, Mary Keim, and Nettie Wengerd and two brothers, Jonas Miller, Jr., and Andrew Miller. Visitation for Owen J. Miller will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan. Merle R. Griffis, 93, formerly of West Unity, Ohio passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Hillside Country Living, Bryan. Merle was born December 9, 1930, in LaFayette, Indiana, son of the late Merle and Mary (Chaney) Griffis. Merle graduated from Stockwell High School in 1948 where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He served in the United States Army in the 18th Engineer Combat Batallion assigned to the 7th Army as a demolition specialist. Merle honorably served from January 12, 1951, until his honorable discharge on May 21, 1953. He married Betty (Lohse) Smith on June 5, 1981, in Archbold, Ohio and she survives. Merle worked for Lutheran Mutual Life Insurance Company as an insurance salesman, retiring in 1990. He also managed Hillcrest Country Club for 15 years, retiring in 2005. Merle was an active member of Trinty Lutheran Church in Bryan, Ohio, where he served on Church Council, Lutheran Men in Mission, and participated in the Furniture Bank of Williams County, as well as the Bed Brigade. He was a member of the West Unity American Legion Post 0669, a former member of the VFW, Wood County Cancer Society, Williams County Habitat for Humanity, and Habitat for Humanity Public Relation Committee in Florida. After retirement, he was a professional driver for the Montpelier Auto Auction, retiring in 2013. Merle enjoyed wintering in Haines City, Florida with his wife, Betty. He enjoyed playing golf, cards and was an avid Purdue University sports fan. Surviving is his loving wife, Betty Griffis of Bryan, Ohio; eight children; Stephen (Kathleen) Griffis of Advance, North Carolina; Terry Elliott of Perrysburg, Ohio; Connie (Paul) Powell of Spring Lake, North Carolina; Debbie (Rob) Curtis of Perrysburg, Ohio; Vicky Kline of Fayetteville, Tennessee; Tom (Lisa) Smith of West Unity, Ohio; Jayne (Joe) McKanna of Bowling Green, Ohio; Sue (Jeff) Martin of Cincinnati, Ohio; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Joan Murtaugh and Patty Horney. Visitation for Merle R. Griffis will be Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 509 Center Street, Bryan, Ohio, where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the church with Pastor Mary Beth Smith-Gunn officiating. Russell Elwin McQuillin, age 87, of Archbold, passed away January 1, 2024, at the Parkview Bryan Hospital. Russell worked as a farmer, at Sauder Woodworking, and at Samuel Mancino's, Archbold. Russell was born on April 12, 1936, in Wauseon, to the late Glen Elwin and Phoebe Ann (Pennington) McQuillin. He was a Wauseon High School graduate of 1954. On June 16, 1962, Russell married his beloved bride, Ruth Ann (Crossgrove), who preceded him in death October 6, 2004. Russell served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed running, biking, health and fitness. He liked to stay active and enjoyed playing pool. Russell was also a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers. Russell was a member of the Archbold Evangelical Church. Surviving Russell is his son, Rodney (Tammy) McQuillin of Wauseon; son, Rick McQuillin of Archbold; and daughter, Rita McQuillin (Matt Welch) of Archbold; grandchildren, Mindi (Derek) Lynn, Leah (James) Whitmire, Micah (Rachel) McQuillin, Eric (Megan) McQuillin, Caleb (Kelsey) McQuillin; Mylee McQuillin, and Josiah McQuillin; and sister-in-law, Hazel McQuillin.
