On February 16, 2024, Sharon Ann (Wiggins) Young passed away at her home in Pensacola, Florida, surrounded by her loving family. Sharon was the fifth of seven children of Arthur Eugene and Mary Magdalene (Mosley) Wiggins, and born in Stapleton, Alabama, on January 27, 1947. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and two siblings, Helen Zuline (Wiggins) Hadley and Horace Leon Wiggins. Sharon met Archie Duane Young in 1964 at their local church where Sharon played the piano on Wednesday nights. They were married in Blytheville, Arkansas, on June 24, 1965, while Archie served in the US Air Force. Sharon is survived by her husband, Archie Duane Young (St. Augustine, Florida), children, Kimberly Doss, Pamela Homyak, and Shannon Young; ten grandchildren, and one great-grandson: Kimberly (Gregory) Doss, Tallahassee, Florida; daughters Rachel Doss (son, Calvin Brock) and Sarah Doss, Tallahassee, Florida; and Hannah Doss, Sandy, Utah. Pamela (James “Jim”) Homyak, Pensacola, Florida; and children Travis Walsh, Brooklyn, New York; and Allison Walsh, Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Shannon (Carola “Pia) Young, West Lafayette, Indiana; children Joel Mendoza, Savannah, Georgia; Nicholas Potes, West Lafayette, Indiana; Emma Young, Provo, Utah; and Lucas and Sofia Young, West Lafayette, Indiana. Sharon is also survived by four siblings, Charlotte Zinner (Stanley), Robertsdale, Alabama; Gerald Wiggins (Tina), Pensacola, Florida; Donald Wiggins (Sally), Gresham, Oregon; Martha Mitchell (George), East Brewton, Alabama, and several nieces and nephews. Sharon will be missed by the many people in her life who experienced her unfailing faith in Christ, her devoted friendship, her tenacious independence, her fierce fight against cancer, and her unconditional love. Sharon had a way of drawing people together and putting everyone at ease. Her smile and laugh were downright contagious. Having lived more than half of her life battling breast cancer, she managed to live life to the fullest and also inspire bravery in those who needed it. Sharon loved deeply and unconditionally. She made us all feel so special. How blessed we all are to have known her and enjoyed her company! Sharon had many talents and abilities that amazed us. During her school years, she played the clarinet in the Tate High School marching band and played the piano with style and flourish, which she continued throughout her life. She loved music of all genres and had an eclectic playlist including gospel, pop, and classical. She especially loved Jonny Mathis, ABBA, Celine Dion, and Andrea Bocelli, who she saw in concert this past year. Sharon perfected her homemaker skills early on and enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, cross stitching, and gardening. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the hospital gift shop, and her church. Sharon enjoyed playing all types of board and card games for the friendly competition and to keep her mind sharp. The card game Canasta was a favorite. And then, in her later years, she became a competitive Mahjong player. She loved Mahjong so much she purchased sets for each family household so we could all learn to play. Through the years, Sharon worked mainly as a receptionist for a judge, a furniture store, a doctor’s office, a junior college, a law firm, and a property management company. In 2020, Sharon fulfilled a life-long dream of visiting the Holy Land. A memorial service celebrating Sharon’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on March 1, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church of Pensacola. Immediately after the service all guests are invited to a reception on site. The family wishes to thank all the staff the Sacred Heart Oncology Department and Emerald Coast Hospice who provided exceptional care for Sharon throughout her life and especially in the final months. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Emerald Coast Hospice, 2190 Airport Blvd #2850, Pensacola, FL 32504. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.oaklawnfunerals.com for the Young family.
