Margaret Barkley Smith, 81, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC on September 8, 2023, at 8:15 p. m. She is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be cremated, and a service will be held at a future date in Daphne, Alabama. Margaret was born in Guntersville, Alabama, but made her life in Atlanta, GA where she worked at Van Heusen Shirts until she retired at the age of 70. Margaret will be remembered for her strong will and hard work ethic. She loved square dancing, boating, camping, and traveling. She was always full of laughter and could find humor easily. She will be missed, but we are thankful she is at resting on God's celestial shores until we will see her again. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Michelle (Howard) Myers; son, Mark (Jennifer) Smith; grandchildren, Steven Smith, Kimberly Smith, Jesse Smith, and Abigail Smith. She is also survived by her brother, A. G. (Kay) Barkley, and nephews, Scott Barkley and Lisa Baker. Special thanks to the staff at the Medford Nursing Home, Florence Medical Center, McLeod Hospice Care for their dedication and support of Margaret and her family during this time. Show more

She was an Accountant at the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District for over 40 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mrs. Madeline Taylor Pickett and Mr. Frederick Douglas Pickett, Sr. , sister, Lynn Pickett Edwards, brother, Frederick Pickett, Jr. , mother and father-in-law, Mrs. Annie Lucille Clayborn and Mr. Willie Humes Clayborn. She leaves to cherish her precious memories her husband, Melvin Lee Clayborn, Mobile, Alabama; three daughters, April Pickett, Franklin, Tennessee, Ashton Jones, LaPlace, Louisiana, and Taylor Clayborn, Montgomery, Alabama; as well astwo stepdaughters, Ashia Hill and Jennifer Hill, Columbus, Georgia; two sisters, Gloria Diane Wormsby, Daphne, Alabama and Gayle (Walter) Powell, Brooklyn, New York; four sisters-in-law, Maricruz Pickett, Silverhill, Alabama, Martha (Floyd) Brazile, Clarksville, Tennessee, Rosa Hammonds, Huntsville, Alabama, and Lavonda (Robert) Slaughter, Huntsville, Alabama; two brothers-in laws, James (Darlene) Clayborn Huntsville, Alabama, Gregory Clayborn Clarksville, Tennessee; devoted friends Regina (Jared) Thompson, Mobile, Alabama, Bell Holloway, Daphne, Alabama, and Wilhelmina Dale, Daphne, Alabama; two godsons Randy Dale, Jr. , Daphne, Alabama and Jeremy Thompson, Mobile, Alabama; goddaughter Jolandra Cole McNeil, New Orleans, Louisiana; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.Show more

Glenn Haskew Bayles, Jr. age 94, of Daphne, AL. died Tuesday, August 22, 2023 peacefully at his home in Daphne. He was born on January 27, 1929 in Franklin, AL. and was a native of Monroe County for the majority of his life. He was a veteran who served in the United States Air Force, Army and National Guard. He worked in the gas and wood products industries. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Monroeville, AL. He was an avid fan of all sports, as well as a standout athlete during his high school years. He had a passion for coaching Babe Ruth Baseball for many, many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Haskew Bayles, Sr. and Ethel Gaines Bayles. He is survived by his wife, Alma Dean Bayles, of 73 years, one son, Glenn Mitchell Bayles, Sr. (Bunny), one daughter, Jane Bayles Jones (Bob), four grandchildren, Brandi Kilgore, Mitchell Bayles, (Cindy), Elizabeth Grace Gilliver (Ryan), Maxwell Jones, nine great grandchildren, one sister, Myrtice Gandy and one niece, Cheryl Mothershed. Graveside services to be held at Pineville Cemetery in Monroeville on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 11:00AM with Brother Bill Bodiford officiating. Parrish, Jr. and two devoted children, daughter, Sha'Torrie (Dre'Shun) and son, Trenton E. Parrish. She is also survived by her siblings: Willie E. (Brenda) Lovett of Axis, AL; Linda (O'Lander) Williams of Daphne, AL; Brenda (Jerold) Rover of Daphne, AL; Maurice Lovett of Savannah, GA; and Glenda (Vernon) Johnson of Daphne, AL.
