David Lee Coleman-Cox Jr

location-icon

Memphis, TN

David Lee Coleman-Cox Jr was born to Amanda Lawson in Memphis, Tennessee, where he lived until he moved to Sacramento, California, with his mother and sister at age five. Amanda was his inspiration–David emulated her strength, kindness, and intelligence. He wanted to become a role model like her, and he did. David took great pride in being an older brother and remained a steadfast support and protector at all times and places, no matter where he was. David was recognized as a leader and an inspiration in his community from a young age, amassing over seventy awards throughout his academic career and receiving national honors for his hard work, sacrifice, and commitment. While at Luther Burbank High School, David was a linebacker on the Titans football team, founded the ‘Do Something’ service organization, participated in photovoltaic and thermoelectric chemistry research at UC Davis, and lobbied for educational programs at the State Capitol, facing every challenge he encountered with grit and grace. David went on to study Political Science at Brigham Young Univesity, where he was the heart of a community of friends and lovers whom he connected through shared meals and laughter, long walks, and deep conversations. David wholeheartedly embraced love in all its forms. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of finding the One, marrying Michael, the love of his life in a joyous ceremony celebrating their seven-year relationship. After a five-year fight with cancer, David passed in his childhood home, surrounded by those he loved most. He is the best son, brother, lover, and friend anyone could have ever asked for, and he will remain the best part of us.
