Ilene Rose Augustine Merritt of Hooke, Oklahoma passed away December 2, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society in Liberal, Kansas. Ilene was born on the family farm near Keota, Iowa, the youngest of four following Ivan, Allan and Elaine, to Ralph L. and Muriel Fleig Augustine. She attended Hickory Ridge County School and Batavia High School in Batavia, Iowa. On April 18, 1959, she married her best friend and truly the love of her life, George Merritt. They resided in Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Oklahoma moving due to transfers with George's Job. Their final move was back to Hooker, Oklahoma in 1989 to be close to their grandsons. In retirement they traveled extensively, many times with their grandsons. Her favorite memories are of traveling with her boys. Ilene was a person who never knew a stranger, loved meeting new people and could carry on a conversation with anyone. A special memory is her love of holidays making them extra special, especially Christmas. She was a member of the Methodist Church and American Legion Aux. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, two brothers and their wives, Ivan and Iva Augustine and Allan and Mary Evelyn Augustine. Ilene is survived by her son, Douglas Wayne and Patricia of Hooker, daughter, Tamara Arnold of Hooker; sister, Elaine Gottman and Russell of Batavia, Iowa, sister-in-law, Carolyn Pruser, brother-in-law, Dick and Kathy Merritt, four grandchildren, Jake Arnold, Clint Arnold, Amanda Rasmussen, Tanner Merritt; five great grandchildren, Mason, Allee Mae, Aimee, Jennifer, Graham. Memorials are suggested to the Wesleyan Church or Hooker Ambulance, Hooker Cemetery or the Hooker Animal Shelter and may be left at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Oklahoma 73945. Funeral services for Barbara Walker will be 2:00 p. m. Friday, December 1, 2023, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Kirk and Pastor Mike McReynolds officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva. She will be in state at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker. Barbara Lois, daughter of the late Harry Edward and Lois Mary (Skillings) Hamby, was born July 6, 1939, at Hooker, and passed away November 27, 2023, at her home surrounded by family at the age of 84 years, 4 months, and 21 days. Barbara was raised in Hooker where she attended school. On May 28, 1958, she was united in marriage to Neal O. Williams. Together they had three children: Neal, Shannon, and Sharron. Barbara later married the love of her life, Travis Hugh Walker on March 11, 1967, at Oklahoma City. They raised their blended family in Liberal, Kansas, Woodward, Mooreland, and Isleton, California, before returning to Hooker where they had made their home for the past 55+ years. She enjoyed following Pop's band, dancing, reading and internet shopping, crocheting and spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She always enjoyed when they could get together and spend time together. Besides her parents, Harry and Lois, she was preceded in death by her husband, Travis, in 2021; her son, Mitch Walker; her daughters, Shannon Campbell and Paula Brooks; her brother, Tad Davis; a granddaughter, Stevie Miller; and a great granddaughter, Harley Michele Walker. Barbara is survived by two sons, Mike Walker of Hooker, and Neal Williams and wife, Sonja, of Alva; two daughters, Clista Fish of Hooker, and Sharron Gorman of Ardmore; her brothers, Butch Hamby and wife, Marie, of Guymon and Larry Hamby and wife, Glovena, of Crockett, Texas; a sister, LaDonna Hinsdale and husband, Larry, of Hutchinson, Kansas; 25 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. Suzanne Lyles was born on May 12, 1937, in Wichita, Kansas to Lester and Genevieve Corbin Renschler. The oldest of three sisters, the family moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1947. After graduating from high school, she attended Oklahoma State University where she was in the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and graduated with a degree in Family Relations and Child Development. While in school, she met her future husband, Devon Lyles on a blind date. They were married in Ponca City on May 26, 1959, and in November 1960 Suzie gave birth to their first child, Lisa. Devon and Suzie moved to Hooker, Oklahoma in 1965 and shortly afterwards, their son Michael was born. Suzie passed away from this life on October 19, 2023. In addition to being a wife and mother, Suzie was an educator and started a kindergarten in Ponca City. She was a doer, an active member of First Baptist Church of Hooker, on the Community Concerts board, in PEO, Oklahoma Cattlewomen, a Cub Scout leader, and always giving her best effort in all that she did. Her home was always decorated for the season and she loved putting up her Christmas village. She is survived by her husband Devon Lyles of Hooker, Oklahoma; daughter Lisa Rackley (Jerry) of Stillwater, Oklahoma; son Michael Lyles of Hooker, Oklahoma; sisters Nancy Bellew of Olathe, Kansas; Pat Beal (Oren) of College Station, Texas; brother-in-law Dwayne Lyles (Jan) of Littleton, Colorado; brother-in-law Rodney Lyles (Deanna) of Scottsdale, Arizona; sister-in-law Sherri Lyles of Austin, Texas; 10 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, brother-in-law Dan Nickles, brother-in-law Jerry Lyles, and sister-in-law Janet Lyles Schroeder (Raymond).
