One of Lee's most cherished hobbies was his passion for model trains. He found solace and delight in creating intricate landscapes and watching his model trains traverse their routes. Many hours were spent online searching for ancestors and developing detailed family trees. Through his inquiries Lee made contact with many distant relatives. William Lee Shorter proudly served his country in the United States Navy, stationed aboard the USS Truckee (AO-147). His dedication to the Navy was a testament to his love for his country and a source of immense pride. Beyond his military service, love for genealogy and model trains, Lee had a deep appreciation for the great outdoors.
