Silas Brewer Jr

Silas Brewer Jr

Age - 90

November 10, 2023

Silas H. Brewer, Jr. , age 90, of Walton, Kentucky entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. Silas was born in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Christine and Silas H. Brewer, Sr. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Rosemary Millwee Brewer. Silas graduated from Duke University and then entered law school at the University of Kentucky, where he graduated in 1964. During his time in college, he served as the President of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, where he gained many lifelong friendships. Silas proudly served in the United States Marine Corps upon graduation from college, where he served on Okinawa in a Rifle Regiment as an Infantry Platoon Leader. He later served in the Marine Reserves as a Company Commander and retired early as a Captain. After his time in the service, Silas made a move to the Little Rock area where he met and married Rosemary Millwee, his wife of 29 years. The two were well matched, sharing progressive values and a devotion to the social justice issues of the time, values they went on to impart in their two girls. Silas went on to practice law in Little Rock for over 35 years at Kaplan Brewer and Maxey Law firm, where he remained until retirement. He was also selected by colleagues and competitors for honorary membership in the Best Lawyers in America for 15 consecutive years as a specialist in Workers Compensation Law. Silas took up running in midlife, completing 7 marathons, one of which involved a trek across the Grand Canyon. He again developed many lasting friendships, and his running crew was known for quite a few memorable antics. He and his friends eventually formed a group affectionately referred to as the Marquis de Sade Running Club, an apt name for some of the relentlessly difficult runs they planned as part of their training. These "trainings" often included comedic skits in front of the premier running store at the time, Easy Runner. Much fun was had by all, and what stands out the most from these times is the joy and laughter. Silas remained active in his later years, taking up and eventually perfecting his golf game, something he had always wanted to do. His first sporting love, as many who knew and loved him will know, was basketball, specifically the Kentucky Wildcats and the Duke Blue Devils. Silas leaves behind his beloved daughters, Rebecca Spohn (Charles) of Little Rock, AR and Allison Thurman of Jackson, MS, and grandchildren, Will Spohn, Olivia Spohn, Rylie Rose Thurman and Ella Thurman. He also leaves behind his second wife, Charlotte Brewer and her children, John Brooking (Kim), Susan Marshall (Edward) and Anne Roberts (Jon) and their children, Tyler Brooking, David Marshall, Jake Roberts, Andy Roberts and Ben Roberts. Becky and Allison are forever grateful to the love and devotion Charlotte provided their father, especially when his health waned. The last years of his life were some of his happiest times, and she helped make this possible. Si's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him, and he will be greatly missed. A memorial service celebrating the life of Silas will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive in Little Rock at 2:00 PM on Saturday November 18, 2023. A private burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following charitable organization that meant very much to Si: 20 Century Club c/o Memorials, 4011 Maryland Ave. , Little Rock, Arkansas 72204.Show more
