Carol L. (Parker) Thompson, of Brookfield, Ohio, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, following a brief illness. She was 80. Carol was born September 24, 1943, at home in Hickory, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Carl and Myrtle (Nelson) Parker. Having lost both parents by the age 14, she was then raised by her aunt, Elsie Taylor, of Masury, Ohio, where she was surrounded by family and love. A graduate of Hubbard High School and Kent State University, she taught English for many years at Liberty High School. She married Gerald "Jerry" L. Thompson on August 24, 1963. Carol & Jerry recently celebrated 60 years of marriage, having been blessed with a life of friendship and love. Carol left teaching to become a floral shop owner and artist at Suburban Floral Shop, of Brookfield. Following that career, she obtained a Master’s Degree in Education from Youngstown State University. She became an instructor of English there and at the Penn State University Shenango Campus. Jerry and Carol were quite active in the Brookfield Rotary Exchange Student Program for many years. They made the students feel a part of a larger family in Brookfield, chaperoning them on tours of Washington D. C. , Niagara Falls, etc. They maintained lifelong friendships/bonds with the students & their families, and also traveled to visit several of them in their homelands. The Brookfield Rotary Club awarded Carol with their highest honor – The Paul Harris Fellowship Award. They enjoyed spending the last 17 years wintering in the Florida Keys at the "Landings of Largo" where they developed another extended family. Carol was gifted with the ability to listen to everyone’s stories, hardships, and triumphs to offer sage advice. Carol was the best wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She cataloged family history, researched ancestry, and could identify faces or names from pictures 60 plus years old for both the Thompson and Parker-Taylor families. She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Gail Ann; and brothers, Bill & Ed Parker. She is survived by her husband, Jerry; as well as many, many nieces and nephews. A time of gathering to honor Carol will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 5-7 PM, in the home of Briceland Funeral Service, 379 State Route 7, SE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403. He was 70. Richard was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on May 11, 1953, a son to Richard "Pappy" William Kroner, Sr. & Ocie Mae (Jackson) Kroner. He graduated from Brookfield High School in 1971 and worked as a Truck Driver for Nick Strimbu, Inc. , Brookfield, for over 30 years before retiring. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling with his bride and spending time with his family & friends. Survivors include: his mother, Mae Kroner, of Brookfield; his bride, Francine "Frani" L. Dr. Michael G. Yanik, 76, of Brookfield, Ohio, passed away during the early morning hours on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at his residence. Michael was born January 3, 1947, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, the son of Albert and Catherine (Filipovich) Yanik. He was a graduate of Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa. Dr. Michael had his own practice, in Liberty Twp. , Ohio, for fifty years before retiring. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Evangelical Church. Michael was a humble man who found joy in serving others. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid gardener. Later in life, he became an exceptional cook. He leaves to cherish his memory, his bride of 53 years, Barbara A. (Bookshaw) Yanik, whom he married on March 7, 1970; daughter, Tina (Brian) Werner, of Hubbard, Ohio; brother, Richard Yanik, of Masury, Ohio; and Nicole Morris, who was like a daughter to him, and her children, Devin, Isaac, Isaiah, and Elijah Matthews; and her granddaughter, Amiyah. Besides his parents, Michael is preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael Jr. ; and a brother, Albert Yanik. In accordance with Michael's wishes, there will be no public services. He will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna, Ohio, alongside his son. Betty Louise Bender, of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, entered eternal rest on Friday, October 27, 2023, while at home following a period of declining health. She was 61. Betty was born April 4, 1962, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Elmer Jennings Starkey, Sr. , and Bernice (Vancour) Starkey. She had worked as a housekeeper, cleaning various businesses in the valley before retiring. She was a member of the American Legion and VFW, both in Farrell. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed socializing and being with her family. She will truly be missed. Betty Ann Johnson, of Brookfield, Ohio, went to live with the Lord on October 25, 2023. Born in Youngstown, Ohio on October 23, 1945, the fourth of eight children to Raymond & Anna Louise (Heckathorn) Hettrick. She graduated from Hubbard High School in 1964. After moving to California, she returned home when her mother passed away in the early summer of 1966. She met a handsome lad by the name of Dennis Johnson, just four months before he entered the U. S. Army. After serving his country in Vietnam, he returned home and they were wed on March 8, 1969. They had two children, Dennis Jr. and Christy. She was of the Christian faith. During her life, she taught a Bible study and youth group. In 1998, Betty won the Salmon P. Chase award from the Ohio Genealogical Society for the book she published on the Anderson Funeral Home of Hubbard, Ohio. The Chase is one of the top awards given out each year. Throughout their 54 years of marriage, they introduced their children to the great outdoors and camping. She spent 20 summers going to Clear Creek State Park in Pennsylvania until her health diminished, therefore she and her husband could no longer go. However, her children and grandchildren still continue to visit today. She is survived by her husband, Dennis; children, Dennis (Amanda) Johnson, of Hubbard, and Christy Johnson, of Brookfield; grandchildren, Gabriella Johnson, of Columbus, Ohio, and Nicholas Zelinsky, of Brookfield; siblings, Lavern Hettrick, of Hubbard, William Hettrick, of Florida, Norman Hettrick, of Hubbard, and Robert Hettrick, of Colorado; brother-in-law, Robert Gibson; and sister-in-law, Linda Hettrick, both of Hubbard. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas E. Wike, Jr. , age 27. He passed away in his home on October 27, 2023. Tom was born on April 16, 1996, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, a son to Thomas E. and Julia H. (Yasnowski) Wike, Sr. He grew up in Brookfield, Ohio, and graduated from Brookfield High School in 2014. After high school, he enlisted with the Ohio Army National Guard and proudly served his country as a diesel mechanic and recovery specialist. He was honorably discharged from his duties following an 8-year term. Tom furthered his education at Youngstown State University where he met his wife, Samantha. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2020. In addition, he completed the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy. In October of 2020, Tom was sworn in as a Ravenna Police Department Patrolman. Here he served the community with respect and compassion. His goals at the department included being a K-9 Officer. In his spare time, Tom enjoyed hunting deer, learning how to smoke meat, loving on his dog, and spending time with friends. He had an amazing sense of humor and lit up every room he was in. Tom was a man of integrity and compassion, who put the needs of his family and community above his own. He will be missed more than words can say. His survivors include: his wife, Samantha; parents, Tom & Julia; sister, Mary; grandfather, Donald Wike; grandmother, Pauline Yasnowski; fur-pup, Simon; and his extended family, fellow officers, co-workers, & countless friends. Joseph "Joe" Wesley Guthrie, of Brookfield, Ohio, passed from this life on Monday, October 16, 2023, while at home following a period of declining health. He was 71. Joseph was born March 2, 1952, in Grove City, Pennsylvania, a son to Wesley F. & Lois (Carver) Guthrie. A 1970 graduate of Brookfield High School, he worked as a crane operator for Sharpsville Quality Products. In addition, Joe had also worked at Republic Steel, Valley Mold, Sawhill Tubular, and P. I. & I. Trucking, retiring after a combined 39 years of service. He was a member of the Brookfield Christian Church; Brookfield Conservation Club; and a bowling league at Mohawk Lanes. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, camping, listening to all types of music, playing pool, watching the Sci-Fi channel, tinkering in the garage, repairing broken things, and riding the lawn tractor. However, spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends, gave him the most joy. Let’s not forget to mention his love for his fur-pup, Maggie. He is survived by: his bride, LaRay Theresa (Myers) Guthrie, whom he met at the Skate More Roller Rink in New Wilmington, they married July 11, 1970; children, Jessica LaRay (Kevin) Trumbull, of Pittsfield, Pennsylvania, Joseph Wesley (Christa) Guthrie, II, of Sigel, Pennsylvania, Julie Irene Fox, of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, and Jacob Alan Guthrie, of Masury, Ohio; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Iris Irene Carver and Delores Sharp; as well as his extended family and many lifelong friends. Donna J. Grove, formerly of East Liverpool, Ohio, peacefully passed away Monday, September 18, 2023, while a patient at Antonine Village, North Jackson, Ohio, following a period of declining health. She was 75. Donna was born July 27, 1948, in Fairmont, West Virginia, a daughter to Samuel H. & Betty J. (Tabbert) Estel. She was a 1966 graduate from East Liverpool High School. She was also a member of the Oakland Free Methodist Church in East Liverpool, where she was a former secretary who participated on many boards and committees for the church. Her working career was very diversified. Donna was a restaurant/café owner, county government employee, bank teller, and her favorite, a homemaker for her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, and working crossword & word search puzzles. However, spending time with her family gave her the most joy. Survivors include: her children, Frank (Cheryl) Briceland, of Diamond, Ohio, Angela (Kevin) Steed, of Canfield, Ohio, Charles Grove (Brooks Allen), of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Thomas Grove, of Darlington, Pennsylvania, and Kristine (Keith) Hayden, of Congers, New York; her grandchildren, Maddie (Matt) Roberts, Mary Brock, Zeke Brock, Callie Steed, Nate Strobel, Lauren Steed, Kinsley Steed, Charles Hayden, Timothy Hayden, Emily (Mike) Walker, Amber (Brian) Neff, & Don (Missy) Wingard; her 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and her brother, Forrest Estel, of Lake Worth, Florida; as well as her extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard L. Grove, whom she married January 21, 1989, he died December 13, 2019; son, Don Briceland; and siblings, Harold Estel & Sharon Waide. Mrs. Jeannetta Lorraine "Flossi" Satterwhite-Holloway was called to enter into the joy of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 2, 2023, at the age of 91. Jeannetta was born to Ulysses Grant and Lulabelle (William) Satterwhite, on August 25, 1932, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Farrell High School class of 1950. Mrs. Jeannetta "Flossie" was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church and The Twin City Elks Lodge 187, Farrell, Pennsylvania, where she was a former Majorette and played on the Basketball Team. She was the former Grand Master of Adelphia Temple; Past Daughter Ruler; Past State President; Granddaughter Ruler; Grand Directness of Zelphia Temple #66; Counsel NW PA; a former Coordinator to the Southwest Gardens’ Arch House; Atlanta Club YoKettle; and thirty plus years of "Come eat with Flossi. " She was a member of the Murray Bell Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary; she organized the Annual Thanksgiving dinner; she was active with the "Willing Workers," of the Ruth African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church; she generously volunteered her time to Southwest Gardens; The Prince of Peace Center and the Arc of Mercer County. She believed in keeping the family connected by having her home full of love and with good food. She loved hard and kept everyone close in her arms and in her heart. Mrs. Holloway is survived by her son, Elder Berry Holloway III; six grandsons, Cedric (Zita) Smith, of Vail, Arizona, Jermaine J. Holloway, of Farrell, Jason Pinkins, of Farrell, Dwayne Smith, of Mercer, Corland Scales, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Frank Holloway Jr. , of Farrell; four granddaughters, Chauntise Ousley, of Farrell, Luvretta Holloway, of Houston, Texas, Jeannetta Holloway, of Farrell, Chantel Taylor, of Sharon, and Dorothy (Billie) Robinson, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; a God-son, Terry Wells, of Farrell; thirty-six great-grandchildren, twenty-three great-great-grandchildren; and she was cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, Godchildren, cousins, as well as many relatives and friends. We gather to remember and honor the life of Richard Delano Allen Rain IV, born to the late Gwendolyn Williams and Richard Delano Allen Rain III (Dale) on April 13, 1981. A man whose presence warmed our hearts, whose love enveloped us, and whose trustworthiness was an unwavering beacon in our lives. Richard was a loving brother, devoted father, a faithful friend, and an extraordinary chef, a man whose very essence was a testament to the qualities we all strive to embody. Richard’s early childhood began in Washington DC. He embarked on a new journey in Pennsylvania at the tender age of 11, where he was embraced by his grandmother, Beatrice Williams Talbert. Richard's love for his family and friends was boundless. He had a way of making everyone feel cherished and valued. Whether it was a warm embrace, a hilarious joke, a kind word, or a heartfelt smile, he had an uncanny ability to make you feel like the most important person in the world when you were with him. His love was a force of nature that swept through the lives of those fortunate enough to know him, leaving behind a trail of cherished memories. One of the many ways Richard expressed his love was through his culinary skills. He had a passion for cooking that was nothing short of remarkable. The joy he found in entertaining and sharing his culinary creations with us was infectious. Each meal he prepared was a work of art, a symphony of flavors that would linger on our taste buds and in our hearts. His kitchen was a place of magic, where he created not just delicious dishes but also unforgettable moments that brought people together. Richard's love for cooking was a reflection of his love for life itself. Throughout his journey, Richard faced his share of challenges, but he did so with unwavering strength and an unchanging heart. His resilience was a testament to his character. He never allowed adversity to define him or deter him from his path. Instead, he faced each challenge with courage and determination, and he emerged stronger with each trial, a living example of the power of the human spirit to overcome. Richard was a man of trustworthiness, a quality so rare and invaluable. We all knew that when Richard made a promise, he would keep it. His word was his bond, and his honesty was a guiding light in our lives. He was someone you could rely on, confide in, and turn to in times of need. His trustworthiness was a rare gift that enriched our lives. In his loving, trustworthy, and respectful nature, Richard Rain’s heart made the world a better place.
