Windsor, VT - Carol M. Maxham, of Windsor, died on Thursday, May 4, 2023, in Lebanon, NH at the age of 85. Born on January 18, 1938, in Fort Scott, KS to John Quinto and Hazel (Conrad) Balocca, she also spent her childhood and early adulthood there, graduating from Fort Scott High School in 1956 and obtaining her Bachelor of Science in business administration from Kansas State College at Pittsburgh in 1961. She took a job with the US State Department shortly after college working in Munich, Athens, and Madrid; during her career, she met Wilmer R. Maxham, and the two were married in 1970 in Annapolis, MD. In 1976, they moved to Quechee, VT where they owned and operated the Quechee Valley Shoppe, a gift shop near the Gorge. Following retirement, she and Wilmer traveled to places near and far. A green-thumbed gardener, she had an expansive flower and vegetable garden each year, keeping loved ones well stocked for the summer and fall and supplying her kitchen with a full assortment of ingredients to prepare her amazing dinners for family and friends. She was a voracious reader, constantly learning and reading new material to keep her mind sharp. Always up for a nice cup of English Breakfast tea with milk and honey, she passed her appreciation for this custom on to her son. She is survived by her son Mark Maxham of Windsor and his fiancee Elissa Davis of Plymouth, MA; two grandsons Charles Hampton and Carter Greyson Maxham of Raleigh, NC; niece Rene Russo and husband Dan Gilroy and their daughter Rose Gilroy of Brentwood, CA She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister Shirley Russo, and one niece Toni Russo. Private services will be held.
