1946-2023 On August 26, 2023 with her family by her side Carol peacefully went to her eternal home at the age of 77. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband Ernie, children Cheryl (Darren), Tracey (Darcy), Tim (Sheri), Jeff (Karen) and Todd (Karen). Her brother Ken (Mary), grandchildren Brady (Erin), Kayla (Mitchell), Tim, Jenna (Jesse), Megan (John), Ashley (Jason ), Stacey (Kevin), Nolan (Erin), Anthony (Lisa), Michael (Michele), Mercedes (Austin), Shania (Jesse), Lucas, and Katie. Great Grandchildren Liam, Melody, Grayson, Calla, Mason, Leo, Brexten and Anniston. Her special niece and nephew Llana (Shane), Jon'Nathon (Ashley), and great niece Holiday. Brother in -law Leonard (Eleanor), sister in-laws Audrey and Joyce. Carol was predeceased by her parents Lillian and Ralph Kubesh, her sister Teresa and her mother and father in-law Edward & Kay Weselak. Brother in-laws Douglas, Edward Weselak and Paul Letwin. Carol was born and raised in Beausejour and in 1961 her family moved to Ladywood, where she would make many beautiful memories with her brother Ken and sister Teresa. In April of 1964 she married Ernie and moved onto the Weselak farm in Ladywoood where they would raise their 5 children and watch their grandchildren grow for 59 years. When Carol settled on the farm with Ernie little did she know at the time that she would not only be a mom to her children but also become like a second mom to many other children. Her natural ability to show kindness and compassion made it easy for people to lean on her. In 2008 Carol & Ernie celebrated the Weselak farms 100 Centennial. Carol planned a grand event that she was sure to invite all their family and friends to, as she was proud to apart of the Weselak Legacy. Carol loved flowers, gardening and farming with Ernie. You could say she had a real green thumb. She spent lots of time in the garden with Ernie planting and harvesting their vegetables and fruit. Her freezer was always full of the bounty of their labours. As a young girl she loved watching and playing sports. Baseball, hockey, football and bowling these were her sports of choice. She started playing baseball on the local Ladywood team while she was in school and would continue throughout the years to play on various other teams with her daughters Cheryl and Tracey. Carol wanted to stay active in the winter so of course joining the local bowling leagues with Cheryl and Tracey made the most sense, she could spend time with her daughters and socialize with her friends all while being active. She enjoyed hockey so she was sure to enroll her boys Tim, Jeff and Todd at a very young age. Being a hockey mom meant she would spend many hours on the road driving the boys to games and practices. Carol could always be found cheering on her favourite teams the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the Winnipeg Jets or the Toronto Blue Jays but the teams she most enjoyed cheering for were the ones her grandchildren and great grandchildren played on. She was proud to see her love of hockey carried on thru the generations. Traveling and staying active was important to Carol. Over the years she would have the opportunity to travel with her friends Louise, Audrey and Shannon to various places such as China, Egypt, Cairo, Scotland, Greece, England, Switzerland, Rome, Uk, Ireland, Paris, Niagara Falls, and Toronto. Her and Ernie visited British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Texas and Nashville. Of course, she always enjoyed her trips to Florida to visit with Ken & Mary in the winter and she would always be sure to fit in a visit with Ernie's nephew Tim while she was there. Being fit and walking was an activity Carol prided herself on as she continued to walk 4 miles, twice a week with her friend Janet till the end. The last 6 months of Carol's life were a testament to the true strength and courage she carried within her. Always remaining positive, hopeful and grateful for all the support she received from her family & friends. We would like to send a very special thank you to the Stonewall hospitals nursing staff and doctors for all the care and kindness they gave to Carol and our family. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 2 at 10:00 a. m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E. , Beausejour with viewing one hour prior to the service. Donations maybe made to the charity of your choice in Carol's name.

November 19, 2023

January 10, 1941 ~November 4, 2023 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Eleanor Margaret Voss (nee Schmuland) on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the age of 82. Left to cherish her memory is her lovingly husband Norman Voss of 64 years, her children, Wayne (Kim), Janet (Mark) and Sylvia (Duncan); precious grandchildren and great grandchildren; her siblings, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. Mom was born in Green Bay, Manitoba. She was one of 12 children, so life was very busy on the farm. The era that Mom was raised in taught her the importance of the finer things in life. On September 19, 1959, she married the love of her life, Norman Voss. From this day forward life would change and include all kinds of new adventures. Soon after, these adventures would include three children. Being a Mom was something that she always cherished. Mom for the most part was a stay home Mom. She spent endless hours sewing dresses for us girls, baking, cooking and entertaining. However, once her children were well on their way, she decided to fulfill a passion of her own, and that was to become a hairdresser. The family went thru many practise runs until she mastered this new profession. Mom was proud of her husbands' musical talents. You could count on seeing her in the front row at all of Dads jamming gatherings. Once Dad had retired from this talent, Mom would continue this legacy by daily playing recorded tapes of his music, playing them loud enough for all to hear. Becoming a Nanny for Mom was something that she truly cherished. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her. She loved them with all her heart (as she would say). She has instilled in each of them so many values and beautiful memories that will have a special place in their hearts. Our family events will never be the same without you Mom/Nanny. Your conversations, your special phrases, your smile and giggle will be truly missed. We are blessed to have all these memories to cherish. We will miss you so much. Rest in peace our special lady! Eleanor's family sincerely thanks the staff at the Beausejour Hospital and Eastgate Lodge. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 13 at 11:00 a. m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E. , Beausejour. Interment will follow in Green Bay Cemetery.Show more

She was raised in Lac du Bonnet, where she made many lifelong friends who knew her as Chickie. She worked in Winnipeg for a short time prior to marrying her high school sweetheart, Glen Hirst, on April 15, 1961. Together they raised three children and she was proud to be the first lady of Lac du Bonnet for 19 years, during the time that Glen was Mayor. Blythe worked at the local Canada Post Office for 29 years, while raising her family. She was thrilled to become a Nanny in 1988 when Anthony was born. She continued to welcome four more grandchildren and was very dedicated to them; teaching them to play crib with her and Papa, sitting on the dock watching them swim for hours, having late-night sleepovers and attending their activities. The only thing better to her than becoming a Nanny was when she became an Amma to her four precious great-grandchildren. She took so much pride in her family and loved spending time with the kids. Blythe enjoyed good conversations, reading, doing crosswords, watching true crime shows and she loved her club soda. Welcoming Mom home are her husband Glen (2009), son Calvin (2021), her parents, stepfather Edward Malyk, in-laws Gordon Hirst, Ralph and Loreley Bogle, Allan and Mayme Hirst, Myrtle and Victor Helgason, Rosalie and Stan Szmerski, Ronald Hirst, Arnold and Joan Hirst, Bob Pohl, Durwood Rollins and Jerry Torgerson. Velma Cosens)

Velma Cosens)

Age - 87

November 14, 2023

1936 September 16 - 2023 October 24 At the age of 87 Velma peacefully joined her family she held in her heart and dearly missed. Velma was born in Gunton, MB to Alan and Jeanne Cosens. Along with her siblings Vern, Harold and Tom they worked on the farm tending sheep, cows, horses, pigs and chickens where chores were completed before and after school. Mom talked fondly of her childhood saying "you just did what you had to and never thought anything of it". Making the best of what they had, the house was filled with love, laughter and food. Shenanigans aplenty went on when Mom and her brothers and friends were involved. Mom entered the work force working at a box factory in Winnipeg and then took a teaching gig that sent her to Lac du Bonnet, where her life as a mother began. Moving back to Winnipeg she started her banking career with the Bank of Montreal, eventually transferring to the bank in Pinawa and finishing her career at the Royal Bank in Lac du Bonnet. She met many lifelong friends and continued on her path of laughter and trickery, occasionally getting her in trouble with management, but never slowing her or her accomplices. Once retiring from the Royal Bank and not ready to leave the public she began working at the LaVerendrye Trading Company clothing store. This was simply another fun adventure. Velma met and married Joe Kulbaba where they and daughter Darlene shared a country life living in Lac du Bonnet at the Farm where Joe was born. They built their house, farmed the land, worked outside the home and hosted many meals. Mom (aka Chicken - a name given to her by Joe and called by most) took pride in making sure there were homecooked meals and fresh garden produce. She was always ready to try a new recipe but was famous for her biscuits and Easter Buns - we couldn't get enough. Leaving the Farm you could hear her yelling "hey wait a minute, I'll cut you some fresh asparagus". Chicken lived her life with a sparkle in her blue eyes, loved her family, holding hands with her grands while walking up the driveway, was a great listener, had a gentle way of giving advice and was very proud of her Dutch ancestry (deGast). Survived by Joe and her children: Rick (Shirley), Deb (Joe), Alan, Louise (Tim), Dennis and Darlene (Shawn); grandchildren (great-grandchildren): Stephanie (Artemis), Wendy, James, Jessica (Isabella, Kingston) and Cole, and numerous sisters/brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her grandchildren Jeremy and Amy. You'll always bring a chuckle, be loved and missed xxoo Thank you to the RCMP, Ambulance Attendants and Sobering Funeral Chapel for the kindness and respect shown to Velma and the family. If family/friends so desire, memorial tributes can be made to a charity of your choice.Show more
