Thomas J. Edwards, 77, of Coldwater, Michigan passed away peacefully Friday, November 24, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. Later this summer, a Celebration of Life for Tom will be held at the Waffle Farm Campground followed by an interment of ashes at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home. Thomas was born August 22, 1946, in Troy, OH to Charles and Dorothy (Mattocks) Edwards. Tom was a lifelong resident of Coldwater, Michigan. He was very proud of his military service with the US Army from 1966 - 1968. He was a door gunner assigned to the 134th Aviation Company during the Vietnam War, earning the Army Commendation Medal with Valor. Tom recently visited the Vietnam Wall in Washington DC to see the names of members lost in his unit. He also attended his first Vietnam Reunion in Granite Falls, MN in September and was reunited with his aircraft , Tail Number "325" in Daleville, Alabama this past Veterans Day. He was most grateful to share the special experience with his two sons who are currently serving in the U. S. Army, along with their families. Tom married Diane (Scott) on July 10, 1993 in Coldwater. She preceded him in death in January of 2022. Tom and Diane spent 30 amazing years living in Southern Michigan and camping throughout Northern Michigan. They spent the golden years traveling in their RV back and forth to Arizona and Mississippi with their favorite destination ultimately being the Waffle Farm Campground. They were easily recognized in their Michigan colored golf cart cruising the campground, giving rides to the grandchildren, always with welcoming smiles and ready for a casual conversation. Tom was a jack of all trades employed throughout southern Michigan. A certified plumber and handyman, working at Gambles, White Supply and later Federal Mogul. However, Tom was most proud of being a business owner. Tom owned the Union 76 Truck Stop on the corner of 12/127 near Michigan International Speedway for ten years meeting all NASCAR superstars. He then went on to own and operate Edwards' Seamless Gutter service for several years with his love to provide a good service to others in his community at a fair price. Tom also operated an assisted living facility with Diane, always offering a welcoming home to those in need. Tom was a giver. People gave him his energy and he loved to serve others in any capacity. After years of service to his country and his community through his businesses, Tom continued to do things for others by mowing lawns, repairing houses, and simple odd jobs many times accompanied by his close friends or with his big brother Bob. He even took over duties dressing up every year as Santa Clause for his father Charlie by supporting local children or adult events, along with Diane by his side. Tom loved the comradery of his golf team and card games, especially with his Vietnam buddies and spending all the amazing summers with his Waffle Farm Campground family. He loved traveling, boating, lake life, and Ohio State football, although begrudgingly supporting Michigan after he married Diane. Tom was humble, had a zest for life, and was a stranger to no one. Tom is survived by his children COL Jason (Jacqilyn) Edwards of Fort Jackson, SC, SGT Josh (Melissa) Edwards of Toledo, OH; his step-children Niki (Dale) Acker, Robert (Stephanie) Gonczy, Jennifer (Chris) Mercer; his grandchildren Willem and Zanna Edwards, Dakota (Rian) Edwards, SGT Chase Edwards; his step grandchildren Zakk Acker, Emma Mercer, Brian, Patrick and Willow Lewis; his great grandchildren Michael and Guinevere Edwards; his sister-in-law Carol Edwards, his former wife and mother of his children Cindy (Doty) Ferguson; his beloved card game friends, golf team members, wonderful Waffle Farm Family and very special childhood friends Irv English and Jimmy Birchfield. Tim Lawrence

Tim Lawrence

Age - 51

November 22, 2023

Tim Lawrence, 51, of Coldwater, MI, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2023 from heart failure. Born Sept. 9, 1972, in Ft. Wayne, IN, he was the son of Barbara (Botts) Lawrence and the late Ron Lawrence. Tim had a joyous childhood growing up on Elmbrook Dr. with his brother Pat, enjoying the simple pleasures of a 1970's neighborhood full of great families, kids, sports, running around, and adventure. He was blessed to have two devoted and loving parents with a spectacular group of friends, and a kind and caring extended family active in his upbringing. Holidays, parties, playing sports, and summers at the lake cottage were always a highlight. Tim enjoyed all manner of boating, water-skiing and other opportunities that the lake life provided, and this time would instill in him a life-long attraction to the water. In these early years, he and Pat bonded closely, palling around at the lake on vacations: exploring channels and woodlands, sailing together (they were so small it took the two of them,) and fishing. Tim went to Northrop High School in Ft. Wayne and was a friend to all. He excelled in the music and marching band program, ultimately graduating to one of the coveted drum major positions. His close high school friendships stayed strong throughout his life and are a testament to his spirit as a friend and confidant to many. Tim attended Vincennes University, received a degree in aeronautical maintenance, and worked for a number of years on airplanes in Chicago and elsewhere. His work life after that was dedicated to real estate and insurance, working for many years at Heritage Insurance. On September 9, 1995, he married Shannon Meier from New Haven, IN. Their 28 year marriage produced an immense joy in Tim's life-his children. Jenna and Ty were very active in athletics, and Tim adored working with them, helping them grow, and attending games. Tim always wanted to be there, whether it was softball, baseball, volleyball, soccer, or lacrosse. Ty just entered college at Indiana Tech on a lacrosse scholarship. Jenna recently began her first job out of nursing school at Eskanzi Health in Indianapolis, and he was immensely proud of them both. As an adult, Tim loved spending time at the lake with his parents and family, helping out, entertaining friends, and being a part of the beautiful community Ron and Barb had surrounded themselves with at Coldwater Lake. Tim had just put the boat and jet ski away for winter and was coming off a joyful summer at Coldwater Lake with lots of time spent with his children. Right before his passing, Tim had spent two lovely days with his mother, Barb, who lives in a memory care community in Winston-Salem, NC, near Pat. They enjoyed laughing, smiling and walking together. Tim had also visited her for her birthday at the end of October, which is a blessing. With his outgoing personality and sense of humor, Tim made friends everywhere he went. From his early childhood friends and the still rock-solid group from high school, through all his workmates, to the many other people he would endear himself to along the way. Tim never met a stranger, and countless people from all directions deeply loved him. Along with his mother, Barb, Tim is survived by his children, Jenna Lawrence of Indianapolis, IN, and Ty Lawrence of Ft. Wayne, IN; their mother, Shannon Meier Lawrence of Ft. Wayne, IN; and sibling, Pat (Martha) Lawrence of Winston-Salem, NC. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 24, 2023, from 4 to 7 p. m. at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave, Fort Wayne, IN. Graveside Service will be Saturday Nov. 25, 2023 at 10:30 a. m. at Sorter Cemetery, 592 Old US27, Coldwater, MI.
