Carol Ann Fox passed away peacefully on September 11, 2023, at the age of 84. She was the kind of mother that every child deserves, and her three daughters were lucky enough to have. She was also a wonderful grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Carol is now dancing with the love of her life, Jim Fox, who passed away in 2017. "Punky" and "Jimbo" were a team in both professional and personal ways. He was the architect, and she was his bookkeeper and business partner. He was the loving but busy father, and she was the backbone of the family. She will be greatly missed, not only by her family, but also by her dear friends in North Carolina and Florida. She was a life-long member of Our Lady of the Mountains in Highlands and St. Francis of Assisi in Franklin. Funeral Mass is Friday, September 15 at 11 am at St. Francis of Assisi. Marilyn Outlaw North, 87, of Franklin, NC, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023. Marilyn was born in Ft. Pierce, FL to the late Edwin and Elizabeth Outlaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sons, Thomas Leon North Jr. and Donald Maurice North, brother, Donald Eugene Newton, sister Sandra Kay Ritton and granddaughter, Heidi Lynn North. Mrs. North was a member of Longview Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Thomas Leon North Sr. of Franklin, NC. Sons: Gerald Eugene North of Oklahoma City, OK, Wendell Lee North of Ft. Pierce FL, Dale Wayne North of Franklin, NC, and daughter Della Marie North of Port St. Lucie, FL. Eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren also survive. A memorial service will be held December 9, 2023, at 11a. m. at Longview Baptist Church, Franklin, NC. The Rev. Christine Hall Gaskins, 89, of Franklin, NC, died Tuesday December 5, 2023 at the Macon Valley Nursing Center in Franklin. She was born August 26, 1934 in Berrien County to the late Plemon Hall and the late Olif Joiner Hall. She was a homemaker and member of the Abundant Life Church of God in Valdosta. She was the widow of Walter Denzil "Denny" Gaskins who died in 2011 and was also preceded in death by a sister: Betty Jean Cowan and 3 brothers: James L. Hall, Willie B. Hall and Carol Lee Hall. She is survived by a daughter: Lisa (John) Kumpik of Valdosta; son: Danny (Doris) Gaskins of Enigma; 5 grandchildren: Melissa Davis, John (Allison) Kumpik, Jr, Rachel Gaskins, Jason (Shannon Bailey) Kumpik and Danny (Katie Black) Gaskins, Jr; 2 great grandchildren: Stacie (Tanner) Fender and Jadyn Kumpik; 3 great great grandchildren: Braden Fender, Kaylee Fender and Maybree Fender; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday December 9, 2023 at 2 PM in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Morris officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside cemetery. Virgil A. "Bud" Shewbart 10/05/1934-11/28/2023 Lieutenant Colonel, Virgil A. Shewbart, 89, Franklin NC resident passed away on Wednesday November 28, 2023, after a short illness. There is so much of Bud that lived between the dates. He was a great father, a good family man and a friend to so many. Bud served in the US Air Force as a Navigator and later as a Weapon Systems Officer. He served in Vietnam and was called upon during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He is survived by his wife, Alice, his sister Virginia, his children, Keith, Kathy, Karen, stepson Seth and nephews Douglas, Michael, nieces Paula, and Janet and many family members. His desire was to be cremated but will make his final service call at military ceremony at a later date. Bud was a selfless man and wanted any respectful memories to go to the Tunnels to Towers or St. Judes Hospital. Bud made an impact on so many lives and will be missed greatly. Patricia Darlene Clink, 63, of Franklin, NC, passed away December 4, 2023. She was born March 25, 1960 in San Diego, CA to Eugene and Tanya Yasnigin Savage. Patricia served in the US Navy as a chief electrician. She loved crafts, quilting and crocheting. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her mother, Tanya Savage; her husband James Warren Clink; three sons, Brandon Ard, Andrew Clink and Daniel Clink; and three grandchildren. Jon Earp

Jon Thorpe Earp, 80, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2023. Jon was born in Des Moines, Iowa, to the late Thorpe and Hazel Earp on December 27, 1942. The family moved to Sarasota, Florida in 1951 where Jon was involved in all sports, especially Sarasota County Little League. He graduated from Sarasota High in 1961 and then enlisted in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1964. Jon was a superintendent for Gulf Contracting in Sarasota, until moving with his family to Highlands, NC in 1979, where he continued his carpentry business, Carpentry Unlimited. Jon loved building, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family. Jon is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kay Calhoun Earp, two children, Kristy (Edward) of Highlands, NC and Kevin (Jane) of Scaly Mtn. , NC. William Hall

Early in the morning of December 2, 2023, William Ralph Hall (nicknamed Bub) age 84 left us to be with the Lord. He was born to Williams Ligah Hall and Bertie Leatherman Hall on August 10, 1939. He grew up with his two brothers and three sisters. He joined the Navy at the age of 18. Following his service, he met and married Linda Hyatt. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage this past August. He went to college at night while working full time. After graduating from Kennesaw College, he made a career as a Systems Analyst for Fulton County, GA. After retiring, he and Linda moved back to their beloved mountains. His favorite pastimes were spending time with family and flying. Bub is survived by his wife, Linda, and his two daughters Shelley Williams (Kelly) and Sherri Jones (Loran). He has five grandchildren: Jessica Eller, Chance Jones, Jordan Jones, Alaina Jones, and Anna Jones. He also has two great grandchildren CJ and Alexis Clark. He is also survived by his brother- in-law Jewel Ray Bishop, sister Carla Bowen, brother Ivan Hall (Reba), brother Tom Hall, and sister Margaret Hall Sutton (Danny). There are numerous nieces and nephews that he loved greatly. Bub is preceded in death by his sister Marylee Bishop, brothers-in-law Ted Bowen and Gary Sutton, and sister-in-law Jill Hall. A funeral service will be held December 5, 2023, 2:00 p. m. at Liberty Baptist Church, 67 Mica City Road, Franklin, NC. 28734. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Raymond Hochstetler Jr. , 84, of Franklin, NC, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Raymond was the son of the late Raymond Hochstetler Sr. and Alma Culp Hochstetler. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Neva (Arlen) Slabaugh, Carrol Jean Hochstetler, Howard (Leona) Hochstetler, Lester Hochstetler; sister-in-law, Dee Hochstetler; and son-in-law, Randall Douglas. He was a member of South Macon Baptist Church and co-membership of Christian Church in Palm Shores, FL. He served our country in the US Army. He was a member of the Moose Lodge for over 58 years, a member of the Normandie Breakfast Group, member of the Pistol Team in the Army,and he was an avid hunter when he was younger. He is survived by his wife of 47 1/2 years, Sharon McKinley Hochstetler; daughters, Ginger Douglas of Sanford, NC; Pamela Fincher (Darren) of Sanford, NC; Susan Payne of Muncie, IN; son, Steven Monroe of Melbourne, FL; brother, Dale Hochstetler of Breman, IN; six grandchildren, Megan Coggins (Weston), Morgan Elkins (Adam), Jared Douglas, Justin Gaster, Jeffrey Payne (Katie), Amy Payne (fiance Ryan Friar); great grandchildren, Camden Coggins, Charlie Coggins, Henry Payne, James Payne; special nieces, nephews, cousins, Vickie and Joe Wall, Mike and DeDe McKinley and sister-in-law, Bertha Hochstetler. Mrs. Carrie Lee Henry Cook, 84, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Mrs. Cook was born January 31, 1939, in Macon, County to the late Grady Henry and Eula Houston Henry. Carrie was a member of Bible Baptist Church where she played the piano. She loved to crochet Afghan's and give them away to older people and shut ins. She was a good cook, and her desserts were excellent. Most of all Carrie was a very faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, John Richard Cook of the home; two daughters, Lorna Cook and Janet Marcie (Robert) both of Franklin; a grandson, Shawn Marcie of Franklin; one sister, Stella Young of Franklin; and three brothers, Conrad Henry, Riley Henry, and Warren Henry all of Franklin. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by a sister, Lydia Conley. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 3, 2023, in the chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Reeves and Rev. John Raby officiating. Burial will follow at Sugar Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
