"Carmen D. Ruiz (Nana), 92, of Harlingen, TX, went to her heavenly home on September 7, 2023. She was born in Harlingen,TX in 1931 to Cipriano and Merced Donez and was the eldest daughter. She worked at Hygeia dairy bar for 25 years and continued to work after her retirement as a provider for the elderly. She resided in Pasadena, TX for 6 years prior to her passing. Carmen was preceded in death by her husband Conrado R. Ruiz, both parents, 9 siblings and a grandson, Hector Garcia. She is survived by her only child, Lupita (Moises) Contreras; sisters: Esperanza Salazar, sister, Luz Donez; baby brother, Rogelio (Dalila) Donez; grandsons, Albert (Nancy) Garcia, Conrad Garcia, Daniel (Loraine) Garcia, Michael (Rosie) Contreras; only granddaughter, Melinda (Raul) Aguilar, 26 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Carmen will always be remembered for her heart of gold, selflessness, love of dancing, being the Harlingen Cardinals #1 fan and for her famous cookies. We'll always imagine hearing her say "hellooooo??" and "Go Big Red". We couldn't have asked for a better Mom, Nana, Tia Carmen, sister/ sister-in-law, cousin and friend, and will miss Nana every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. Visitation will be held Monday, September 11, 2023 beginning at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023 departing the Rudy Garza Funeral Home at 9:30 AM for a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church (1313 W. Buchanan St. Harlingen, TX) and burial will follow at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery (21037 Godwin Rd. Harlingen, TX). "

Zoila Esperanza Leal, 63, went home with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 23, 2023 in Harlingen, Texas. She was born to the late Raul Alcantara and Natalia Romero on June 5, 1960 in El Salvador. Zoila was an employee of Vicky Roy, where she was employed as a home health provider for 20 plus years. She was a faithful member of Iglesia de Dios "El Salvador in San Benito, where she served as the Adult Sunday School teacher. Zoila enjoyed gardening, helping the church in any way she could especially teaching the Sunday school class, and cherished the time she spent with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raul Alcantara and Natalia Romero and her brother, Jaime Alcantara. Left to treasure Zoila's memory are her children, Elmer Campos, Sergio Campos (Anaid), Zoila Hurley (Shane), Adriana Duarte (Adan Mauricio), Victor Leal (Keisha), Sandra Leal; her grandchildren, Allyson Campos, Kyleen Hurley, Emma Duarte, Emilia Duarte, Connor Hurley, Emiliano Campos, Billie Leal, Diego Campos, Reilly Leal, Carlos Reyna, Caine Reyna, Helena Campos, and Sophia Reyna; her siblings, Delmis Campos, Nelson Alcantara, Hugo Alcantara and Mackency Alcantara; her pastors, Eric and Susie Velasquez; and her church family. Luis Ramos Atkinson Sr, who entered this world on April 21, 1955, in Harlingen, Texas, was born to proud parents, Rogelio Atkinson and Marcela Ramos Atkinson. Luis was a multifaceted individual, celebrated for his exceptional mechanical, landscaping, and farm labor skills. His hands were blessed with a green thumb, and he possessed an innate ability to breathe life into any project. Luis was a renowned for his generosity and outgoing spirit. His infectious smile was a constant companion, and the familiar phrase "Alrighty then!" echoed his optimistic approach to life. Luis was not only a master of his trades but also a beacon of humor and fearlessness in the face of challenges. His legacy is etched in the countless lives he touched, leaving an indelible mark through his laughter, kindness, and unwavering determination. Flora was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening. She is preceded in death by her parents, Refugio and Francisca Rodriguez; her son, Hector Ontiveros, and her grandson, Anthony Ontiveros.
