Carmen P Romero, 83, of Corona, New Mexico, entered joyfully into the comforting embrace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 4, 2023, in Clarksville, Ohio She was born February 15, 1940, in Corona, New Mexico, to Quirino Antunez and Florinda Montoya Carmen was raised alongside her prima-hermana, Rosa [Herrera], by her father and late grandmother, Alcaria Antunez In their childhood, Carmen and Rosa enjoyed playing outside, were quite adventurous and loved to wander. . . so much so, their loving grandmother would frequently have to remind them to stay near their home! Carmen was undoubtedly cherished by her daddy. . . his mija consentida Later in her adult years, Carmen, her husband and their family often visited and hosted Quirino, creating special memories that included fiestas and dances, matanzas, pinon-picking, and flea-markets She shared an incredibly special and deep bond with her father until his passing on August 8, 1982 A young and beautiful bride, Carmen joined her life-long love and soulmate Paul Romero in the Holy Bonds of Matrimony on March 22, 1959, in Vaughn, NM Together, they raised their large family in ranching communities in and around New Mexico and Texas, ultimately settling in Corona Their lives together were full and passionate, adventuresome and trialed, exhausting but rewarding She was a deeply devoted wife of nearly 41 years, and loved Paul beyond his passing on February 13, 2000 Oh, the joy of their spiritual reunion and eternal love in Heaven! Humble in spirit and strong in faith, Carmen's devout worship of our Lord was most spoken in private prayer, truly reflecting the essence of Matthew 6:5-6 And in the truest Spirit of Christ, Carmen's love for her family was deep, unconditional, accepting, and non-judgmental Her love for sons- and daughters-in-law transcended familia bloodlines. . . she endeared them as her own In Carmen's presence, everyone felt the powerful, unwavering love she had for her friends and family Her fiery persona and fierce will were matched in intensity by the strength of her character and the love and kindness she showed to all She also had a lighthearted and playful humor about her that often times knocked you on your heels! The love of her cozy home and the beautiful state of New Mexico was so very deeply rooted in Carmen's heart; the wonderful scenery that she grew up in became the place she grew old in A home reflects oneself, and Corona was as much a part of Carmen Romero as anything else She knew the value of tradition, passed down recipes for green chile stew, tortillas, and tamales, love for New Mexico music, as well as a lifetime of stories that will be cherished forever Small in stature but big in heart, she soothed broken hearts with the biggest of hugs, and when she thought the hugs were not enough, she always knew her tortilla, beans, and chile would cheer one up! Her cocina was her haven and her cooking one of the strongest ways she demonstrated love for others - you knew she loved you when she served up one of her plates of homemade food! She was as spirited as the Land of Enchantment! Carmen's grace and forgiveness surpassed understanding, especially when overwhelmed with tragedy, grief, loneliness, and pain She lived a purpose-filled life and will always be the true embodiment of the spirit of God The beautiful qualities Carmen displayed in life live on in her loved ones, her meaningful story will be sustained through generations to come We pray the valuable and precious lessons she imparted to her children and grandchildren continue many generations from now To our precious Carmen, a Budweiser toast lifted oh-so-high to a life well-lived - you will forever be remembered in our hearts!
