Maura H. Nolan, age 92 formerly of Lewiston, New York, passed away on November 2, 2023 in Orange Park, Florida. She was the first daughter of the late James E. and Veronica Hehir. Maura attended Sacred Heart elementary school and Saint Mary's high school. She received a BS degree in education from Medaille College and an MA degree from Niagara University. She participated in the doctoral program at the University of Buffalo and held multiple state teaching certificates. She taught at several parochial schools in Niagara Falls, sharing her love of learning with her students. She retired after 22 years from the Niagara Wheatfield school district where she was a reading specialist. Maura was instrumental in founding the Buffalo chapter of the Magnificat, a ministry for Catholic women. Always involved with the Catholic Church, she was a facilitator with the Women of Grace Foundational Study, Women of the Word, Catholic Bible study, our Lady of Fatima Bible study and led a special study for women at home. She received the Scapular in secular order of Carmelites. Maura volunteered extensively at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine in Lewiston, New York as Lector, server, and Eucharistic minister. She was a daily communicant. Maura was the loving mother of Vincent C. (Mary) Nolan, Ann M. (Nicholas) Cvetanovich, Mary K. Martha, Rita V. Nolan and Laurel J. Nolan. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, as well as her youngest sister, Marjorie H. Beachy. She was predeceased by her young son, Robby, her beloved husband, Robert E. Nolan and her two sisters, Kathleen H Joyce and Ann H Bright. The family will be present on Thursday, December 14, from 4-7 PM at the Rhoney Funeral Home, 901 Cayuga St. , Lewiston, NY. Friends are invited to attend her mass of Christian burial at 10 AM Friday, December 15 at St. Mary of the Cataract Church , 237 4th St. , Niagara Falls, NY Memorials may be made in her name to a charity of your choice.Show more

Richard Lee "Dick" Oliver, 91, of Orange Park, FL went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 27, 2023. He was born January 29, 1932 in Washington, DC to the late Sidney and Anna Mae (Hogue) Oliver. Dick attended and graduated from McKinley High School in Washington DC and received his Bachelor Degree from The University of North Florida. In 1951, enlisted in the United States Navy. He served our country honorably, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant in Aviation Electronics after twenty one years of dedicated service. Dick received numerous service awards including medals for his time spent in Korea, Cuba and Vietnam. After being retired for two years, Dick chose to return to the workforce for a second career for Jacksonville Electric Authority, where he retired after twenty years of faithful service. Dick was of the Baptist faith and a member of Shindler Drive Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading, traveling, playing board games and watching baseball. More than anything, Dick cherished time spent with his family and friends. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband and father, faithful Christian, and for his intelligence, generosity and integrity. He is preceded by his parents; previous wives, Alice Helen Oliver and Peggy J. Oliver and sister, Helen Box. Dick is survived by his wife, Catherine Barr Oliver of Orange Park, FL; children, Karen L. Oliver of Arlington, VA, Corey Loy Oliver (Lisa) of Fernandina Beach, FL and Craig Lee Oliver of St. Augustine, FL; stepdaughters, Brenda Mitchell and Valerie Brink; stepsons, Bruce Murphy and Steve Murphy; grandchildren, Conlin Lee Oliver, Michael Oliver Shields, Helen Elizabeth Oliver and Jessica Waterstraat; great grandson, Tobias James Oliver with a host of extended family and friends. A Celebration of Dick's life will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Shindler Drive Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Reavis and Rev. Marjorie Elizabeth Whitehead Fachko, 80, a long-time resident of Orange Park, peacefully passed away on December 2, 2023. Marge (or "Margie" to many) was born in Starke, Florida, on March 25, 1943, to the late Allen B. Whitehead, Sr. , and Leoma (Dobbs) Whitehead. She grew up in Bradford County, surrounded by close-knit generations of loving grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. The home base of her rural childhood remained an important touchstone to her throughout her life. Marge graduated from high school in Starke in 1960 and --- inspired by several aunts who had moved to the big city --- she promptly took off for Jacksonville to begin making her way in the world. While working as a young secretary at Florida National Bank, she met her future first husband, George Q. Bishop, Jr. They were married in 1962. Their children, Michael L. Bishop (Shane Thomas), of Atlanta, and Melodie M. Bishop (Brian Morris), of Chicago, survive her, as do her beloved grandchildren, Thomas and Mariella Bishop. Marge was preceded in death by her devoted second husband, Charles F. Fachko, whom she married in 1976, and by her brothers Allen B. "Junior" Whitehead, Jr. , Charles E. "Bud" Whitehead, and Larry S. Whitehead. She is also survived by her sister, Charlotte Durrance, and by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Marge was a strong, beautiful and vivacious lady, with a bright and ready smile and a gift for conversation. She never met a stranger. She adored and enjoyed her friends and extended family and she could always be counted on to bring laughter and fun-loving sparkle to any gathering. She was profoundly committed to her Christian faith and that faith guided and sustained her throughout her life. Marge's determination and resilience were an inspiration to everyone who knew her, and especially to her children. She was for many years an active member of the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville and, later, the First Baptist Church of Orange Park, where she was a member of the Joyful Servers Sunday School class. She was also busy in her community, serving as president of the Orange Park Woman's Club, a member of the Garden Club of Orange Park, and a founding member of the Historical Society of Orange Park. Funeral services in celebration of Marge's life will be held at 11 a. m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Orange Park, 1140 Kingsley Ave. , Orange Park, FL, with Pastor David Tarkington officiating. A fellowship hour with refreshments will follow the service. Suzanne Brantley, age 63, passed away peacefully on Saturday December 2, 2023. She was born March 2, 1960, in Jacksonville, Florida. Being the daughter of a career Navy veteran, she spent her youth and teenage years traveling and living throughout the US and Puerto Rico. She attended high school in Washington, DC, but eventually relocated back to Jacksonville. On a Saturday morning, almost 44 years ago, a young Suzanne walked into a tire store in search of new tires for her mom's car but instead found the love of her life Gene Brantley. The two connected immediately and eventually married, spending the next 39 years building an exciting life and raising six beautiful dogs they adored: Fred, Simon, Barney, Max, Bosley, and Sam. Suzanne and Gene both loved the water and the beach and traveled to exotic locations such as Bora Bora and Tahiti. When they weren't on the water, they were traveling to the Blue Ridge mountains to escape the Florida heat and enjoy winters by the fire. Suzanne's career in finance included positions at Vystar Credit Union, CitiStreet, Florida Medical Association and Kenyon Griner. Suzanne had a strong work ethic, always putting her heart and soul into every project she undertook. Suzanne is survived by her loving husband Gene Brantley, bother Charlie Hinchey and nephew Justin Hinchey. On the 3rd of December 2023, Gail Patricia Houlihan, our beloved mother known for her wit, intelligence, and kindness, peacefully passed away. She took her last breath in the company of her husband Tom, daughter Sarah, grandson Ed, and family friend Kathleen Murray, at home in Jacksonville, FL. Born on December 23, 1940, in Peoria, IL, Gail was the eldest of five children to Earl and Marguerite Eldred. Following high school, she attended the University of Illinois for a year but later opted to move to Chicago to work for American Airlines. It was in Chicago that she met Tom Houlihan, and after just five dates, they decided to embark on a lifelong journey together. They made their home in Chicago, where their firstborn, Erin Kathleen, came into the world. Subsequently, they moved to Minneapolis, MN, where their second child, Thomas Edward II, was born. Amidst job changes and a desire to be closer to family, they relocated to Tom's hometown, LaCrosse, WI, and welcomed their third child, Sarah Elizabeth. Gail, a devoted wife and mother, felt a calling to contribute more. In the early 1980s, after relocating to Walkerton, IN, she returned to school, earning her Associate's degree in nursing from Purdue University. When the family moved to Grand Rapids, MI, she continued her educational journey, obtaining her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Western Michigan University. Her calling emerged later in life, and in her late 40s, Gail became a child psychologist, guiding her patients through life's challenges with compassion and expertise. In their retirement, after being snowbirds from Shipshewana, IN, for several years, she and Tom settled in the Jacksonville, FL, area to be closer to their youngest daughter, Sarah. They enjoyed golfing, playing cards, going to the beach, and spending time with family and friends. She developed a passion for quilting and made quilts for everyone she loved. Gail was known for a smile that could light up a room, quick wit, and kind heart. Gail is survived by her husband of 61 years, Thomas Houlihan, daughter Erin (Robin) Harper, son Thomas Houlihan II, and daughter Sarah Firpo. Her legacy extends to her grandchildren: Joseph (Ashley) Harper, Thomas Houlihan III, Edward Harper, and Kamptyn Firpo. She also had two beautiful great grandchildren, Quinn Houlihan and Thomas Houlihan IV. She is also survived by her siblings, Jan (Jim) Kendall, Joe (Sue) Eldred, and Pat (Pam) Eldred. The family expresses gratitude to all for the love, support, and prayers, contributing to Gail's peaceful transition. Maggie Jean Snellgrove passed away at the age of 82 in her home in Orange Park, FL. Jean married Ray Snellgrove in 1958 and became a military wife for 20+ years. They shared a wonderful marriage of 65 years. Jean worked hard to keep her anniversary appointment with Ray which she achieved at 12:01 am before going to Heaven at !:10 am on Monday November 27, 2023. Jean was a long time member of Blanding Blvd Baptist Church where she had many wonderful friends. She would greet members with a warm smile and always made them feel welcome. Jean will be remembered for her devotion to her family and also her love of crocheting, Thru the years she shared many blankets with her family and friends, Jean also enjoyed going on the road with Ray on his travels for work. Jean was a devoted mother to four children. Three daughters: Shirley Woodlee (Jim), Raylene Kohler (Russell), Kathy Absher (Jeff) and her son David Snellgrove (Doug) who passed away earlier this year on his 54th birthday, May 30, 2023. Jean was a loving grandmother to six grandchildren: Becky Snellgrove, Beverly Capps, Daniel Absher, Kyle Kohler, Jennifer Silva and Leslie Sylvester. Jean also had seven great grandchildren: Epic, Brecken, Mereck, Sofia, Skyla, Aurora and Violet. All to whom she was lovingly known as Gigi. A visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, Thursday, December 7, 2023 in the Jacksonville Memory Gardens Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, December 8, 2023 at Blanding Boulevard Baptist Church with Pastor David Adair officiating.
