Carlos M. Quijada Gomez, 51, of Middletown, Rhode Island, died on September 5, 2023. He was the husband of Rosa (Gonzalez) Gonzalez de Quijada. Born in Nueva Concepcion, Chalatenango, El Salvador on January 30, 1972, He was the son of Miguel Quijada and Florinda Gomez Quijada. Carlos was a man who was full of joy and hard work. He moved to Rhode Island in 2019 and worked with his nephew at Flores Landscaping. He was loved and respected by his customers and anyone he had the opportunity to meet. Carlos attended Cristiana Britanica Church and Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and watching a soccer games in his free time. Carlos is survived by his wife Rosa and their children; Brandon Quijada Gonzalez and Milena Quijada Gonzalez both of Middletown, and Leydri Quijada Gonzalez of El Salvador, his nephew Henry Flores of Middletown, and many more cousins and extended family in El Salvador. Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, September 17, from 4:00-7:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Everett H. Fillion Newport, RI- Everett H. Fillion of Middletown, RI died on Thursday November 23, 2023, on Thanksgiving, his favorite holiday. He was the husband of Karen Ganong Fillion, whom he married on October 20, 1985. Born on June 27, 1934, in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of Everard and Irma (Gernt) Fillion. He was the father of Eric, Brian & Ellen, Ann Marie and Mark & Sheri. He was also the grandfather of Benjamin and Matthew and the husband of the late Demetra G. (Lefas) Fillion. Everett was the loving Dog Dad of "His Little Girl", Ginger. Everett had a special relationship with Karen's Cousins: Bill (Caroline), Bobby (Kathy), Eddie, Kevin (Angela), Jack (Monica), Ann (John) and David. Everett also leaves several close friends who meant the world to him. He hated every minute of high school but graduated from Pawtucket East in 1952. He immediately entered the Air Force, serving as a Master Sergeant specializing as a radar mechanic. He took pride in saying that he went to college on the GI bill, graduating cum laude from Johnson & Wales with a degree in business management in 1978. The majority of his working career was spent with Providence Gas. He spent many years in the marketing department and then became General Manager of their propane division, Arrowhead Propane in Tiverton. He was instrumental in establishing the LP Gas Association of Rhode Island, serving as its first President. Toward the end of his career, he returned to the parent company, attaining the position of Vice President. One of Everett's favorite accomplishments in life was serving as the Boy Scout Master for St. Margaret's Troop 88 in Rumford, always speaking proudly about the boys who achieved the level of Eagle Scout. He liked dogs, TV, reading, movies, many types of music, boating, entertaining and spending time on his wrap around screen porch. Everett truly enjoyed every minute of the twenty years he lived in his dream home that he lovingly rescued and restored. Everett was a smooth dancer, a master builder, a gourmet cook and a storyteller extraordinaire. Visiting hours will be held Thursday November 30, 2023, from 4-7pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway Newport. His funeral will be held on Friday December 1, 2023 at 9:00am at Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, in St. Lucy's Catholic Church, 909 West Main Road in Middletown. Born in Newport, RI, RI on April 8, 1964, He was the son of James and Dorothy (Scott) McLeish. Jimmy worked for Perry Potato Farm during his teen years and then went and worked for RIPTA where he was employed for 37 years. He was the VP and longtime member of The North End Club. He was an avid softball player most of his life. He was a highly competitive bowler with family and anything else he played, such as golf, cards, and board games. He had a big obsession with the Red Sox and Patriots. He loved going to the games with his friends and then carrying on the tradition with his family. James is survived by his wife Sherri and their children; Brynn McLeish, Cameron McLeish all of Middletown, RI. his siblings; Scott McLeish and his wife Catherine, and Sam Silvia all of Middletown, RI as well as many nieces and nephews. James is preceded in death by his parents James and Dorothy McLeish. His brother Robert (Otis) McLeish and his sister Janet Perry. Anita T. Roberts Middletown, RI -Anita T. Roberts, 93, of Middletown, Rhode Island, died on October 26, 2023. She was the wife of the late Martin "Buddy" Roberts. Born in Philadelphia, PA on July 5, 1930, She was the daughter of Herbert and Rose (Schid) Trimble. Anita was a 1948 graduate of Rogers High School as well as a graduate of Bryant College. After the passing of her late husband, Anita worked at Roberts Business Services supporting many local businesses with bookkeeping services. Anita is survived by son Bruce Roberts and his wife Eileen of La Grange, ME and Portsmouth RI; and her daughters; Catherine King and her husband Steven, of Colorado Springs, CO; Stacey Roberts of Middletown, RI and Susan Correia and her husband James, of Middletown, RI. Anita is also survived by her six grandchildren Leslie LeBlanc (husband Daniel) of Cranston, RI, and Scott Roberts (wife Lissa) of London, England, Jeffrey King (wife Amber), Stephanie King and Jennifer King of Denver, CO, and Kelley Alexander (husband Bryan) of Middletown, RI. Elizabeth "Liz" Prime, 75, of Middletown, RI passed away peacefully at Newport Hospital with Nick, Kiley and Steve at her side. Liz was born on May 18, 1948 in Newport RI. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Mary Rooney and E. Patrick Rooney. A beloved wife of her husband Steve, Liz passed away less than 5 days shy of celebrating the couple's 40th anniversary. It was during the early years of the Newport International Boat Show that Liz met the love of her life, Steve Prime. They married October 22, 1983 weeks after the New York Yacht Club lost the America'a Cup the the Australian challenger Australia II. Liz is survived by her husband Steve Prime, her son Nicholas Prime, her daughter Elizabeth Kiley Prime and Kiley's husband Hunter Sperry. In addition, she is survived by her brother Pat Rooney (and his wife Pam), sisters Kathy Rooney and Meg Rooney (and her partner Ann). In passing she is preceded by her late sister, Maureen Kramer. Liz devoted her life to her two wonderful children Nicholas and Kiley. Nicholas made his mother proud by earning his Ph. D. from King's College, University of London. Her daughter Kiley, continued in her mother and grandmother's footsteps through her love of horses, and many years of equestrian competition. Along with her mother, Elizabeth Rooney, Liz and Kiley spent many weekends campaigning in the Amateur Hunter Jumper Class with the three generations of riders having fun traveling together. Liz loved a good time. She prided herself on organizing weekend parties with softball, horseshoes, badminton, and other competitive events . She hated to lose at card games, a reflection of her competitive nature. She remained close to many of the crew members from the 1980 and 1983 America's Cup team led by Dennis Conner. Anytime any of Dennis' crew were in Newport it was time for a party. Her internment will be private, but there will be a celebration of her life in the near future. Madeline (Kalarian) Holbrook, 93, of Middletown, RI, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023. She was the wife of the late Francis J. Holbrook for 56 years. Born in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Nevart (Madigian) Kalarian. Madeline graduated from Pawtucket East High School in 1948. She went on to graduate from Rhode Island College of Education, now known as Rhode Island College, in 1952 (where she was voted the "May Queen"). Madeline then went on to receive her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Rhode Island. Madeline was a school teacher for 30 years in the Middletown Public School System. She firmly believed in higher education and inspired peers and youth to pursue their dreams. Above all, Madeline was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Madeline is survived by her children, Deborah (Bill) Johnston, of St. Paul, MN, Cheryl (John) Lawlor, of Portsmouth, Lynne (Mark) Sieben, of Portsmouth, Francis (Robin) Holbrook II, of Middletown, Gregory (Randall Culpepper) Holbrook, of Bridgehampton, NY. She additionally leaves 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Madeline was preceded in death by her husband, Francis J. Holbrook, and her brother, Steven Kalarian. Barbara Miller, 94, of Middletown, Rhode Island, died on October 18, 2023. Born in Providence, RI on December 21, 1928, She was the daughter of Gilbert and Elizabeth (Rees) Miller. She grew up in Providence and graduated from Hope High School in 1947. She attended college at Pembroke College, a part of Brown University at the time. Barbara worked in the insurance industry for 35 years, during this time she lived in Barrington. She retired from Aetna Insurance as a Senior Commercial Underwriter. In retirement, she moved to Middletown and gave generously of her time and intellect, as a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church where she served as Treasurer for the Rosary Sodality. She was also a Past President of the Rhode Island Association of Insurance Women, Past Treasurer of the Rhode Island Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired, and a member of the Newport County Radio Club. She always loved animals, and was an active supporter of the Robert Potter League for Animals for many years, and was recognized as a generous donor by the Board. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and her longtime companion, Joseph A. Silveria. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 25 at 10:00am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will follow in Forest Chapel Cemetery, Barrington. Kristine S. (Grev) Springett, 62, of Middletown, RI, passed away peacefully at home with family on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Kristine was born on July 19th, 1961, in Elmhurst, IL. She was the daughter of the late Stuart and Ruth (Abelson) Grev. She was the beloved wife of Michael A. Springett of 37 years. A graduate of Ramsey High School, NJ class of 1979 Kristine went on to attend Salve Regina university for her undergraduate degree as well as her master's degree in business management. From this time forward she made Aquidneck Island her home. For most of her life, worked in business administration in higher education but most recently was employed at Embrace home loans. Kris was a devoted mother and one of her greatest achievements during her time was her two children. She is survived by her son Zachary Springett and his wife Alyssa. Her daughter Amy Larcom and her husband Ian all of Middletown. Even more special than her role as a mother, she treasured being a "Grammy" to Harper and Harrison and her granddogs Phoebe, Darla, and Zeus. Additionally, she is survived by her sister Cynthia McGuire and her husband Phillip of Portsmouth, RI, brother Michael Grev and his wife Linda of Mahwah, NJ, and brother Brian Grev and his wife Emily of Alta Loma, CA. She was the sister of the late Randy Grev. Most of all she loved her family and friends. She enjoyed summers spent at Second beach and was never too far from the water. Kris enjoyed traveling, especially family trips to Vermont and New Jersey. Kristine was known for her infectious laughter and desire for a good time. Mary Ellen (LaPierre) Fatulli, age 91, of Middletown, RI, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 8, 2023, at home with her devoted daughter, Janet L. Fatulli, by her side. Beloved daughter of the late Natalie (Bowman) and Harold LaPierre, Sr. , and sister of the late Harold LaPierre, Jr. Mary Ellen was the loving wife of the late Ronald R. Fatulli, owner of the Aquidneck Lobster Company in Newport. They were happily married for 56 years, until his passing in July 2021. She was born in New York City, NY, and grew up in Newport, RI. Mary Ellen was a graduate of St. Catherine's Academy in 1950. She then went on to get her nursing degree at Newport Hospital where she continued her work as an Operating Room Nurse. Mary Ellen left the nursing field to raise her family in Middletown. Mary Ellen loved working in her spectacular gardens around the property, and successfully ran her own bed & breakfast in Middletown for many years. She was a gourmet chef, and you could often find her at her daughter Janet's bakery (Fatulli's) in Middletown. Mary Ellen and Ronnie loved entertaining their wonderfully devoted friends in their beautiful backyard, surrounded by great food and plenty of laughter. She was a hostess extraordinaire and basked in making everyone feel welcome at their home. Mary Ellen is survived by her sons, Robert Oatway (Gail) of Greenville, Thomas Oatway of Newport, William Oatway (Amy) of Jamestown, and daughter, Janet Fatulli, of Newport. Mary Ellen was also the mother of the late Peter Oatway, who passed in August 2021. She also leaves her dear nephew, Jay LaPierre (Maureen) of Middletown, and dear niece, Jacqueline LaPierre (Rick) of Newport. The Fatulli and Oatway families would like to graciously thank the many caregivers that took such wonderful care of our beloved Mother, Mary Ellen, for many years.
