Houston, TX

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at St. Mary Mother of the Church on Doucet Road in Lafayette, Louisiana for Morgann Marie “Maggie” McKethan, age 34, who passed unexpectedly on Monday, February 26, 2024 at her home in Houston, Texas. The family requests visitation be observed at St. Mary’s Church on Doucet Road beginning at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, with a Rosary at 1:00 pm. Father Matthew Hebert, pastor of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau, Louisiana will be the celebrant. Maggie is survived by her parents, Floyd and Lydia Moreau Degueyter of Broussard, Louisiana, her godparents, Charlie and Alice Moreau Faul of Coteau, Louisiana, Godfrey “Brother” Marine and his wife Patti of Broussard, Louisiana, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends spread across the United States and Canada; a special mention to her beloved dog, Ouisie Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Samuel and Dorothy Moreau of New Iberia, Louisiana, and her great grandmother Mrs. Lydia Viator, also of New Iberia. A 2007 graduate of Saint Thomas Moore High School, and a 2012 graduate of the University of Mississippi “Ole Miss,” Maggie had made her home in Houston where she was a superstar news and sports producer for FOX 26 Houston television station. Devoting over 9 years to her FOX 26 family, she was instrumental in producing “Houston’s Morning Show” at 8AM, and was the first producer on the station’s groundbreaking “Isiah Factor Uncensored” daily show. In her career, she covered numerous breaking news events from Hurricane Harvey, to the funerals of former President H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush. She played an integral role in producing specials during the Astros’ playoffs and World Series runs. With a passion for soccer, she created her own social media content promoting Houston Dynamo Men’s Professional Soccer Team, and Houston Dash Women’s Professional Soccer Team. Before her career began with FOX 26 Houston, Maggie was a dance instructor at Dixie Dance Company of Oxford, Mississippi. She quickly became one of studio owner Megan Anderson’s most trusted employees, taking on more responsibility than just teaching dance. Maggie planned, choreographed, and organized dance recitals and other studio events. She loved her students and the studio so much that she would often come to the studio just to hang out in her free time. Maggie built lasting relationships with many of her students’ families that she maintained long after she graduated and moved away from Oxford. Beyond her passion for dance and sports, Maggie gave generously of her time, volunteering with youth as a Big Sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star. Maggie’s family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to her colleagues and friends who have compiled and aired several glowing tributes to Maggie’s professional contributions, as well as her enormous zest for life and genuine love of all things Houston and Louisiana. The family wishes to extend sincerest appreciation to Maggie’s roommate Miles Foreman for his courage, help and support. A memorial service in Houston, and a private interment ceremony are being planned for a later date. In remembrance of Maggie’s life, contributions can be made to the Maggie McKethan Memorial at the Ole Miss Alumni Center, or to , or . Smile brighter, wear the big earrings and the fun shoes, make the extra effort, hug for real, say what you mean, make mountains out of molehills, and say “I Love You!!”
