Carla Lucas Obituary

Ms. Carla Denise Lucas, age 55, of Durham, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2023. She was born May 12, 1968 to the late Lonnie Sharrod Lucas, Sr. and Lucy (Mayo) Lucas. She attended Southwest Edgecombe High School and was a graduate of NC Central University, where she earned a Master's degree. Carla served her country honorably in the U. S. Army, and continued to be engaged and active in her community after leaving the Army. Some of her accolades listed here come directly from people that she worked with in her community. To her colleagues at Combat Female Veterans Families United, she will always be remembered as a sister-in-arms, comrade, and member of the family. Carla provided a tender strength that was demonstrated through her ability to empower, encourage and support other sheroes who depended on her to show up and be present. She always came with love, kindness, laughter, and a shoulder to lean on despite that she was enthralled in her own personal battle. Carla embodied a true sense of loyalty, duty, respect, honor, integrity and personal courage that she gave freely and openly to her fellow sheroes. Carla also joined the American Legion Post 540, "NC First ALL Female Post," in 2015. She was elected to be the Sergeant of Arms in 2017. At every election, it was known by all that there would be no replacing her as Sergeant of Arms. Carla would smile and accept the position each year. The doors to the post will never be the same. A memorial service will be held at Renaissance Funeral Home on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Carla's family welcome any flower arrangements or donations in her honor.
