Lawrence Luecking
Age - 76
August 24, 2023
Lawrence Henry Luecking, 76, died Aug. 22, 2023 at his home in Nashville, Illinois, surrounded by his family. He was born Nov. 6, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri. He grew up in Freeburg and graduated from Freeburg High School. Whether answering to Larry, Lonnie, Lonzo, Hugo or Bro, he was a loving husband, brother, dad, grandpa, uncle, cousin and friend. We were all blessed to have such a genuine and caring man in our lives. His laugh could be heard blocks away and his smile never faded. He held many jobs throughout his life including as a banker, loan officer and business owner. He found the most joy, however, doing his "retirement job," driving a school bus for the past 15 years. He most recently drove for First Student in DuQuoin and previously for Illinois Central, Carlyle School District and Carbondale School District. He loved going to work every day and transporting the children. When he wasn't working, Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, shooting pool, bowling, canoeing, fishing and camping. Our world will never be the same without your presence, seeing your smile and hearing your laugh. Thank you, Larry, for always being there for all of us whenever and wherever we needed you. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Rebecca; and his five children: John (Lyndelle) Luecking of Belleville, Michael (LeeAnn) Luecking of Mascoutah, Matthew (Ann) Luecking of Caseyville, Jamie (Wayne) Forsythe of Nixa, Missouri, and Cathy (Kyle) Starek of Columbia; and his bonus children: Angela (Brian) Franklin of Keyesport, Holly (Trevor) Parker of Belleville, Cindy (Kevin Papproth) Bales of Caseyville and Kyle (Adrian) Wallace of Fairview Heights. He will especially be missed by his adoring grandchildren: Colton Starek, Lucas Starek, Parker Luecking, Riley Luecking, Haiden Forsythe, Reece Luecking, Lauren Luecking, Caleb Luecking, Nate Luecking, Autumn Simons, Haleigh Franklin, Hayden Franklin, Luke Adams, Maddie Parker, Erin Parker, Aaliah Papproth, Alexiah Papproth, Logan Wallace and Zane Wallace. He was ecstatic about having another grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his siblings Lerinda (Don) Frost of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Lavonne (Gary) Lemler of Granite City and David (Kathleen Nelson) Luecking of Webster Groves, Missouri; nieces and nephews, numerous cousins, co-workers and friends, especially those he met at Hardee's in Nashville, which he adopted as his hometown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lydia Luecking, and his grandson Andrew Luecking. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville, Illinois on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11 AM with Fr. Andy Knopik officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville, IL on Saturday from 8 AM until 10:30 AM.
