Carl Shanahan Obituary

Carl M. Shanahan, 81, of East Granby, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. He was born on December 20, 1941, in Hartford, son to the late Charles M. Shanahan, Jr. and Alice (Evans) Shanahan. Carl grew up in Hartford before he and his family relocated to Windsor in 1958. He was a graduate of Windsor High School, Class of 1960. Following high school, he proudly served his country with the United States Army from February of 1964 up until his honorable discharge in February of 1966 as a Military Policeman. Upon returning home, he was employed for over 30 years with the United States Postal Service, in Poquonock, earning the title of honorable postmaster before his retirement in 1991. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing golf, going bowling, and playing cards, especially setback and poker. Carl is survived by his four siblings, Robert Shanahan and his wife Norma of Marlow, NH, Alice Tralli and her husband Angelo of Berlin, Charles Shanahan, III, of East Granby and Susan Shykula and her husband Paul of West Lebanon, NH; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four siblings, Betty Mooney, Laura DiDomenico, James Shanahan and Dorothy Pizzoferrato. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from 4-6 p. m. at the Carmon Poquonock Funeral Home, 1816 Poquonock Ave. (Rte 75), Windsor with military honors to be rendered at 6 p. m.
