Ida Mckinnon

Mrs. Ida Mae McKinnon sadly passed away on June 4, 2023, at the age of 92 at Twin View Rehabilitation & Health Center in Twin City, Georgia. Ida was born April 16, 1931, in Claxton, Georgia. to the late Ms. Rosa Sapp and Mr. Henry McKnight. She had a wonderful childhood with her only sister, Everlina Carey, who preceded her in death in 2005. She was educated in the Evans County school system and received a high school diploma in 1949. Ida loved the Lord and was a life-long member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Claxton, Georgia, where she actively served and ushered until her health prevented her from attending. In 1972, she was joined in matrimony to James Lee McKinnon, who remained her loving partner until his passing in 2004. She was a wonderful, loving mother to five children. Ida's grandchildren were the loves of her life and she loved each of them in a special way. Ida leaves to honor and cherish her memory: five loving children: Mrs. Helen (Larry) Handsom of Twin City, Georgia, Mrs. Brenda (Bobby) Roberts of Claxton, Georgia, Mr. Richard Sapp of College Park, Georgia, Mr. Robert (Patricia) Sapp and Mr. Harry Sapp, both of Claxton, Georgia; her precious grandchildren: thirteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren, and eight (one on the way) great-great-grandchildren; a cherished niece, Mrs. Hilda (Tom) Boston of Augusta, Georgia and a cherished nephew, Mr. Norman (Lola) Harper of Waco, Texas. She was a well-loved member of the community and leaves a host of friends and relatives who will remember her fondly.Show more

Norma Thornton

Norma Jean (Neuhart) Thornton, 93, of Gnadenhutten, died Monday afternoon June 19, 2023, at Trinity Hospital Twin City surrounded by her family. She was born in Noble County to the late William and Elvira (Carpenter) Neuhart on July 27, 1929. Norma graduated from Old Washington High School in 1948, then one year later married her late husband Howard J. Thornton on November 26, 1949, and were married for sixty-eight years before his death on January 25, 2018. The two of them were faithful members of the Church of Christ for many years. Norma enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. Surviving are Norma and Howard's two children: Roger (Debbie) Thornton of Dennison, and Lori (Mike) Sweitzer of Gnadenhutten, three grandchildren Justin (KaLee) Sweitzer, Katie Sweitzer, and Darcy (Dale) Gribble, three great-grandchildren Maddee Gribble, Xander Sweitzer, and Kyler Gribble; many nieces and nephews, and her grand-dog Gracie. Graveside services will be held for Norma on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 11:00 A. M. at the Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery. Evangelist Bob Main will be officiating the service. Mr. Bobby Sherrod, 83, of Twin City, GA, passed away on May 19, 2023 at his residence. Mr. Bobby was born on June 7, 1939, to the late Harvey Sherrod and Lula Scott Sherrod in Swainsboro, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Georgia Mae Braddy Sherrod; daughter, Seresa Waters; son, Jimmy Ray Sherrod; sisters, Johnnie Canady, Lillian Hodges, Mary Rich, and Marjorie Johnson. Mr. Bobby farmed with his dad for many years. He loved going to church and fishing. Mr. Bobby was not one to ever meet a stranger. He was a very meek and humble man. He was a member of Swainsboro Freewill Baptist Church. He is survived by his sons, Bobby Frank Sherrod of Twin City and Harvey Sherrod of Eastman; daughter, Ladona Lara of Metter; sisters, Janie Perkins of Waynesboro and Louise Barker of Millen; 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, and several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Funeral Services will be 2:00 P. M. , Monday, May 22, 2023 in the Chapel of Chapman Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Dowless officiating, assisted by Reverend Andrew Flowers. Mrs. Kimberly Allison Ware, 56, of Twin City passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Ware was born June 28, 1966, in Swainsboro to the late Joe D. Ware and Judy Gray Fennell. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jeffrey L. Stevens. Mrs. Ware loved playing the lottery and listening to music. She was very crafty as she made bird houses. Mrs. Ware enjoyed cooking. She worked for Ware's Barbeque for 14 years. She attended the public schools of Emanuel County and graduated from Emanuel County Institute in 1997. Arlana completed the necessary requirements to become a certified nursing assistant and was employed at Twin View Nursing Home. She was a faithful member of Solomon's Temple International Church, Swainsboro, Georgia, under the leadership of Dr. James Mason. She was preceded in death by one son, Terrance Bailey; one granddaughter, Kamani Bailey; her parents, one brother, Sam Milton; three sisters, Annette Milton, Bernice Milton and Peggy Milton; one sister-in-law, Joyce Milton.
