James H. "Jim" Laughman, age 72, of Covington, OH passed away on November 27, 2023 at StoryPoint of Troy. He was born on February 25, 1951 in Piqua to the late Howard and Vivian (Howell) Laughman. Jim is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Shannon and Rick Arnold of Houston and son and daughter-in-law: Jeremy and Kelli Laughman of Piqua; three grandchildren: Sadie (Brian) Shannon, Trenton Laughman and Andon Laughman; two great grandsons: Carter and Kobe; sisters: Diane (Dick) Crilley of Pleasant Hill and Shirley Kucinski of Worthington; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years: Sheryl E. Laughman; sister and brothers-in-law: Nancy and Roger Sentman and Stan Kucinski. Jim was a 1969 graduate of Newton High School. He retired from Ivex in Troy after 42 years of service. He was an avid fan of Duke Basketball and Cincinnati Reds and enjoyed fishing and camping. Funeral service will be held 10:00AM Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Bridges- Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Covington. Interment in Highland Cemetery, Covington. Doris Evelyn Trost Age 97, of Pleasant Hill, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023, at StoryPoint of Troy. She was born November 27, 1925, in Pleasant Hill, Ohio, to her parents Vern J. & Eva Irene (Swisher) Trost. Doris graduated from Newton High School class of 1943 and later graduated from Manchester College in 1947. She retired as a school teacher after 40 years of teaching English, French, and Speech. She began her teaching career at Bradford High School for 2 years, then Lewisburg High School for 14 years, and lastly Covington High School for 25 years. Doris was a member of the Miami County Red Hat Society, Astrobuds Garden Club, the Covington Avocation Club and was a member of the teacher's sorority Delta Kappa Gamma. Doris loved to travel world-wide, often on trips with friends. Alaska, Paris and Hawaii were some of he places she visited. Doris loved themed Christmas trees, and as soon as her Christmas tree was taken down, she was already planning next year's theme. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Carolyn Elizabeth Trost, Donald Trost, Robert Eldon Trost. She will be missed and remembered by her nephews Steven (Robyn) Trost and Stanley Trost; niece Sylvia (Don) Good; and the Renner Family. Ruben Martinez Pelayo, age 60, of Covington, OH passed away on October 27, 2023 at his residence. He was born on August 5, 1963 in Ayutla, Mexico to Enrique Pelayo Valer and Teresa Martinez. He is survived by siblings: Gregorio Pelayo Martinez, Luis Pelayo Martinez, Alonso Pelayo Martinez, Gustavo Pelayo Martinez, Juan Jose Pelayo Martinez, Alfonso Pelayo Martinez, Enrique Pelayo Martinez and Felipe Pelayo Martinez and many extended family and friends in Mexico and Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved American Mom, Judy Colleen Rose and Godson, Zachary Noah Ruben Rose. In 1995, Ruben along with his American "Mom" and business manager Judy Rose, opened El Sombrero Family Mexican Restaurant in Troy. For nearly 30 years they have donated to local soup kitchens monthly and fed thousands at the annual free traditional Thanksgiving meal. Ruben had a very giving spirit, receiving the 2003 40 Under 40 from the Dayton Business Journal, the Troy Sertoma Club's 2005 mankind award, grand marshal of Troy's Grand Illumination and Strawberry Festival, the American Red Cross' Humanitarian of the Year and the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center's Unity in the Community award. Andrew "Andy" J. Miller, age 90 of Piqua, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Ayden Healthcare of Piqua. Andy was born in Rossburg, OH on June 17, 1933 to the (late) Homer & Amelia Mildred (Rose) Miller; a graduate of Bradford High School; had previously worked on an Oil Rig, 26 years of service with Miller-Meteor Company, Piqua and retired with 13 years of service from Clopay, Russia; was a previous member of the AMVETS Post #66, Covington and Covington Eagles Aerie #3998. Preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rose M. (Honel) Miller in 2018; five sisters, Opal Lutz, Dorothy McCune, Ellie Miller, Ruth Victor, and Marjorie Matthew; and six brothers, Infant Robert Miller, Infant Harold Dean Miller, Lester Miller, Ralph "Pug" Miller, Walter "Buck" Miller, and Marion Miller. Landon Murphy Thobe, age 13 of Bradford, the son of Jason Paul & Amber Dawn (Sell) Thobe, passed away at home with his family and dogs on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Landon was born in St. Marys, OH on June 24, 2010; was an 8th Grade Student at Bradford Schools; baptized at Common Ground Christian Church, Bradford; a member of the Troy Bombers Baseball Organization; enjoyed fishing, hunting, a true "outdoors kid"; loved hanging out with his dad and his dogs. Preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Melody (Murphy) Baker, David Sell; step-grandfather, Charles Baker; paternal grandmother, Rebecca Thobe; and his dogs, Memphis and Trooper, who was his best friend. Landon is survived by his parents, Jason & Amber of Bradford; two brothers, Levi Thobe and Leeum Thobe, both at home; grandfather, Doug Thobe of Minster and his friend, Joann Scott of Sidney; aunts & uncles, Alicia Graham of Covington, Abbagale & J. Lee Wilburn of Bradford, Benjamin Thobe of Minster, and Molly & Phil Reecer of Medina, OH; his dogs, Nova & Dolly; many cousins, special relatives and many friends. Jeff David Minnich, age 62 of Covington, Ohio, passed away Friday, August 17th, 2023 at Ohio Hospice of Miami County, Troy. Jeff was born in Miami County on August 13, 1961 to James Richard Minnich & Joyce Ann Minnich (Walker); a graduate of Covington High School, and JVS, Class of 1980; Jeff was a long-term employee of 20 plus years of the former BF Goodrich (Raytheon) in Troy, OH. Preceded in death by his father, James Richard Minnich, his uncle, Tommy Walker, and his past animals. Jeff is survived by his Wife, Lora Kinney, his brother-in-law, Kevin Wintrow, sister and brother in-law, Robert & Leslie Parker; step-children, Victoria Kinney (husband, Francisco Mejicanos) and Dustin Kinney (wife, Krystal Kinney). His mother, Joyce Ann Minnich; his brother, Jerry Minnich; sister, Janelle Steinke (Minnich) and many nieces, nephews, grandkids, relatives, and friends. Jeff was a lover of the great outdoors, deer and duck hunting, fishing, and anything to do with camouflage. He shared his passions all his life with his nieces, nephews, grandkids, and friends' kids by sharing with them his love of boating, motorcycle and tractor rides. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Covington Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #3998 where Jeff was a lifelong member and Vice President, on Sunday, August 27th from 1:00PM till 4:00PM. Ruth was born in Dayton, Ohio on May 4, 1935 to the (late) Paul & Ethel (Davis) Corwin; graduated from High School and attended Sinclair Community College; was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; loved cats and animals of all kinds; enjoyed camping, bowling, crocheting, doing cryptograms, making flower arrangements, crafts, and ceramics; loved to read; and her later years enjoying coloring in adult coloring books. Preceded in death by her parents; son, Paul Anthony Riancho; grandson, Shaun Duff; ex-husband, Ralph G. Riancho; and two partners, Frank and Sonny.
