December 7, 2023
On December 2, 2023, Hazel Joy Page, 92 of Houston Texas while surrounded by her family was called home to be with Jesus. Hazel was born in Garwood, Texas on September 2,1931 in a little tin house down the road from her childhood home. Her parents, David Leslie, and Ola Belle Lanier had five boys, and then two girls: Foy, MG, Leo, Jack, Norman, Hazel, and Berta Rea. While attending Garwood High School, Hazel developed a love for volleyball and played on the school team. She graduated in1949 before attending Wharton County Junior College. After school she worked as a telephone switchboard operator, using electrical cords or switches to establish the phone call connections. She later worked at a hospital in Columbus, Texas in the medical records department. She left home at the age of twenty-nine when she moved to Houston to work at Tennessee Gas Pipeline. Hazel met her husband, Roy Page, at St. Paul's Methodist Church Coffee Club while playing volleyball. In just three short months, they were married on September 2, 1965, and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage before Roy's passing in 2019. Hazel and Roy raised two daughters, Jennifer, and Leslie, in a loving Christian home. She enjoyed being a homemaker and helping her husband, Roy, run a successful part-time upholstery business for twenty-five years which allowed her to use her excellent sewing skills. She loved and served the Lord all her life and was a member of Sagemont Church since 1985. She enjoyed volunteering in various ministries of the church including being table host at Holiday Celebrations, making decorations and supporting events in Children's Ministry, and serving in Helping Hands ministry. Hazel was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandma, and friend. She was a constant encourager for family and friends and her quick wit and tenacious, competitive spirit will be missed. For Hazel, family was her pure joy in life. Her legacy is how well she loved and cared for her parents and family. Hazel is survived by her daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Shane Masters, daughter Leslie and son-in-law Rich Cockerham, granddaughter Sarah Miller, grandson Bailey and wife, Erica Miller, granddaughter Nicole and husband, Andrew Torres, granddaughter Abigial Cockerham, granddaughter Taylor and husband Cory Miles, grandson Ethan Cockerham, granddaughter Emily Cockerham, and great granddaughters, Yasmeen Scott, Jade Self and numerous nieces and nephews.
